He was born on December 6, 1922, in Claresholm, Alberta, Canada, to Milton Whitmore and Rhoda Whitehead Hansen. He married Roma Orton March 31, 1948, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Bill grew up in Cardston, Alberta, Canada. He loved the outdoors and sports. He earned his King Scout Award. In high school, he excelled in basketball, boxing, track and field. His high school basketball team won the Alberta Provincial A Championship. He also played on the Alberta Normal School basketball team which won the Northern Alberta championship. He graduated in 1942 from the Alberta Normal School with a certificate in elementary education. In 1942, Bill enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as pilot and a flying instructor until the end of the WW II. While in the RCAF, he won the RCAF Hampton Trophy for outstanding athlete. Following the war, he was player-coach on Lethbridge Green Acres, a semi-professional basketball team. His name was entered into the Cardston Athletic Association Hall of Fame. He earned his Bachelor of Science from BYU in 1948 and his Master of Science from the University of Utah in 1959. Bill's career as an educator and administrator spanned 45 years starting in a one-room school in Provost, Alberta,Canada and ending as Supervisor of Math and Science K-12 in Davis County Utah School District. His career included assignments in multiple locations including Lethbridge and Cardston, Canada; Payette, Idaho; Burns, Oregon and Bountiful, Utah. He retired in 1987 from the Davis School District. Bill was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving faithfully in many different callings throughout his life including early morning seminary teacher and a member of the first Bend, Oregon District High Council. Bill and Roma served a Church Welfare Mission in St. George, Utah from 1996 to 1997. He is survived by his wife Roma; children, John (Terry), Sandy, Utah; Laura (Bill) Atkin, Kamas, Utah; Ronald (Gaylene), Aurora, Colorado; Kim, Taylorsville, Utah; Jana (Jonathan) Oomrigar, Aurora, Colorado; and Michael (Yumi), Centerville, Utah; sister Ann (Gordon) Thibault, Provo, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Milton Whitehead Hansen. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2005 at the Chase Lane Ward, 1125 No. 400 W. Centerville. Friends may call Sunday December 11 from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East and Monday 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment: Cardston, Alberta, Canada on December 15, 2005. Originally published December 10, 2005 Grace K. Souza Grace K. Souza passed away Dec. 8, 2005 at home in Sebastopol, CA. She was born in Cedar City, UT to Joseph & Theresa Foster in 1920. The family wishes to thank Elenoa Bale for the wonderful care she provided. Grace was a resident of Sonoma County since 1964 and was the owner operator of The Doll House Beauty Salon in Occidental & Her Majesty Beauty Salon in Sebastopol. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Souza. In addition to her extended family she is survived by her children Carolyn Lanigan, Arden Wheeler, Daniel Wheeler, and Paul Karason; grandson Ernest Aebersold; as well as her brothers Charles & Howard Foster and sister Lillie Williams which still reside in UT.
