GEORGE - Dorothy May Teters Moon, age 90, passed away December 15, 2005 at her home in St. George, Utah after a short illness. She was born October 29, 1915 at Red Creek Ranch, Sweetwater County, Wyoming to Charles Alexander Teters and Amelia Prestopitz Teters. She was the seventh of ten children. She married her sweetheart James Hale Moon on June 5, 1934 in Manila, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple, and they shared a wonderful 58 years together in this life until Jim's passing in 1992. During her early life, Dorothy was raised at the Red Creek Ranch, and then the family moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming so that she and her siblings could attend school. She was an exceptional student, and was able to graduate from Rock Springs High School at age 16. She and Jim moved a few times during their marriage while he worked in the coalmines and gas fields and she raised their children until they settled in Rock Springs, Wyoming following Jim's retirement. Looking for warmer weather they decided to move once again in 1985 and settled in St.George, Utah close to their daughter and her family. Dorothy was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the many callings she served in. Her favorite calling was that of being a visiting teacher. She loved each of her partners, and especially loved those that she visited. She also enjoyed visiting the temple, and wanted to do this as often as possible. She was the mother of four children, Jimmy Jr. (Sandra) of Ashcroft, British Columbia, Canada, Don (Wanda) of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Brad (Peggy) of Pavilion, Wyoming, and Janice (Tom) Taylor of St. George, Utah. She had 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Rose Logan and Arlie Radosevich, and brothers Valentine Teters, Bob Teters, and Jack Teters. Surviving family members include her four children, her grandchildren and her great- grandchildren, as well as her sisters Hazel Overy, Claris Nellen, Thelma Armstrong, and Amelia Hmenia. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing in St. George, Utah on Monday, December 19th at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. A second viewing will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming on Thursday, December 22nd at the White Mountain LDS Chapel beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will be followed by funeral services at the same location at 10:00 a.m.. Interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park under the direction of Vase Mortuary. Originally published December 18, 2005 Georgerena (Ginger) Rice ST. GEORGE - Georgerena (Ginger) Rice was born May 21, 1925 in Lowry City, Missouri and died December 11, 2005 in St. George, Utah. She was raised in Gallup, New Mexico and attended school through the 11th grade, then moved to San Diego, California, where she completed school and attended Spreckles Business College. She was a bookkeeper and office manager. She was a member of PEO, having been initiated into Chapter W, in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1977. She was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, VFW Auxiliary and a life member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She served two terms as president of the Valley View Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. She was a board member of the Iron County Care and Share, serving five years in that capacity. Ginger had many friends who knew how much she cared for them and their families. In Ginger's last days her home was never empty from visitors who loved to come and spend time talking and laughing. She was never too tired for a friend. She will be very missed. Ginger is survived by her husband of 51 years, Vernon D. Rice; her daughter, Suzette M. Cox; her son, John A. Rice; her grandsons, Joseph Scott Cox (Erin) and Justin C. Cox; her nephews, Fred Jones, Neil Coleman and Roger Coleman. At Ginger's request, there will not be any memorial or grave side services. GEORGE / IVINS - Doyle Sampson, age 85, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at his home in Kayenta, Ivins, Utah. He was born September 15, 1920, in Delta, Utah. After completing high school, he was recruited by Lee Hafen to come to Dixie Jr. College. He attended Dixie for one and a half years before leaving with the National Guard in 1941. He was with the 115th Engineers Corp, stationed in England, and went into France on Utah Beach when the invasion of Europe took place. Doyle was honorably discharged from active duty in October of 1945. He then returned to Dixie where he graduated in June of 1946. Doyle married Edna Mae Miller in 1946, and they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Doyle received his Bachelors Degree. He coached high school basketball and football in Hobbs, New Mexico, for three years before returning to Dixie. At that time he went into private business. He owned and managed a shoe store and The Dairy Freeze. In 1954, Dixie College was without a basketball coach, so Doyle was recruited to coach college ball for a year. He owned and operated ERA Sampson and Company Real Estate with his son, Sam, for several years. In 1958, Doyle was President of the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce which, at the time, hired the first executive secretary. During 1963, Hawthorne Company, currently known as Dixie Development, was anticipating coming into this area. Doyle gave three months of his time, without compensation, to selling stock. This industry became a big asset to the economy of our community. Doyle was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the city for his help on this project and was most recently sitting on the board of directors. Doyle has been an active member of the Lions Club for 55 years, serving as President and District Governor. He served as chairman in rebuilding Roene Diflore's home after it was destroyed by fire. He was a charter member of the Colonels Club of Dixie College. He was part of a group that helped develop the City Center, Dixie Bowl, and Milne Jewelers. He also helped organize and sell stock in three banks, including: Enterprise Bank, Sun Capital Bank, and Sun First Bank. He most recently sat on the Board of Sun First Bank. His grateful family includes his: wife, Edna Mae; and sisters, Dorothy Webb, and Lila Mae Debenham. Surviving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren include: Sam and Lisa, Lindsay, Kimberly; Shannon and Kyle, Kayla, Claire, Ryan, Kate; Greg and Jeannie, Michael, Tanner, Taylor, Brooks; Eric and Niki, Shaly, Alex, Braden; Sam and Kali, Cole, Luke; Mary Lou, Kurtis, Wyatt; Sherrie, Matthew, Michael and Emily, Ryan, Madalene Rose, Jackson, Katherine Anne; Karl and Wendy, Henry. He was active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and most recently served as the High Priest Group Leader. He was quietly of service to his fellow man. Doyle enjoyed spending time at his cabin on Kolob Mountain. He was an avid hunter, golfer, and sandbagger. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivins Stake Center, 260 E. 1060 S., Ivins, with the first viewing Sunday, December 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Spilsbury Mortuary, and second viewing Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT (435) 673-2454. Originally published December 18, 2005 Vivian Sorenson Scheller Vivian Martha Sorenson Tollstrup Scheller passed from this life on December 15, 2005 at her home in Queen Creek, Arizona with her niece, Judy Beck Johnson, and her great nieces, Kim Hill and Marti Player, by her side. Born to Annie H. Beck and Andrew S. Sorenson on September 27, 1915 in Axtell, Utah, Vivian lived all her 90 years to the fullest as an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend and business woman. She married her high school sweetheart, Duane H. Tollstrup, on September 22, 1934 and they made their home in Los Angeles, California. On November 11, 1948 they celebrated the arrival of their son, Steven Duane. After the loss of Duane, Vivian moved to Salt Lake City and later married L. Darrell Scheller on March 29, 1961. They were together until his death on August 20, 2002. After their retirement, they moved to St. George, Utah and then to Arizona in 1999, where they lived with their niece, Judy and her daughter, Kim until their deaths. Vivian's legacy of faith, hope and love will live on through the countless individual's whose lives she touched. Her sweet spirit, generosity, quick wit and strong will were central to her unique character. Her life was built around God and filled with family, friends, church work and Republican values. Vivian is survived by her son, Steven Duane, daughter-in-law, Debra, grandsons Jeremy, Sean and Alex and four great grandchildren. As the last of her generation, she is preceded in death by her husbands, parents, three brothers and three sisters. All services to celebrate Vivian's life will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, and will include a viewing on Sunday, December 18 from 5 to 7 pm; a viewing from 1:30 - 2:30 pm on Monday, December 19, and funeral at 2:30 pm with graveside services immediately following. Originally published December 18, 2005 Charlotte Young KANAB - Charlotte Heaton Young, 86, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2005 at her home in Kanab, Utah. She was born December 19, 1918 in Kanab to Israel H. and Charlotte Cox Heaton, the 9th child of 10 children. She graduated from Kanab High School in 1936 and attended USAC and BYU. She married Clifton Young December 19, 1939, in the St. George Temple. He preceded her in death, August 7, 2000. They served as Stake missionaries at Red Lake, Arizona, and as missionaries in Texas and the Philippines. They also served as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple and in Extraction work in Kanab Stake. Charlotte worked in all Church auxiliary organizations, both Ward and Stake. She was especially appreciated for her service as Ward Organist. She supported and assisted her husband in his callings such as Branch President atRed Lake, High Councilor and Stake Patriarch. She was serving as a visiting teacher supervisor at the time of her death. Charlotte loved and was loved by everyone! She loved to be of service. She enjoyed sending birthday cards, giving gifts, sewing, crocheting and quilting. She loved to play the piano and give music lessons. She was a devout and valiant person, living an exemplary life of kindness and generosity. She received the 2004 Womanhood Award. Charlotte loved life, and she was prepared for death. She will meet her husband Clifton, son Royce, five sisters and two brothers, mother and father, and many friends and relatives on the other side. She is survived by her brothers Israel H.(Arline) Heaton and LeRoy C. (Esther) Heaton, and her children Jim (Faye) Young, Joyce (Larry) Rhodes, (Sylvia) Young, DeLoy (Ranny) Young, and Susana Young. She has 29 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Kanab Utah Stake Center. Viewings will be at the Mosdell Mortuary on Wednesday, December 21st from 6-7:00 PM and Thursday from 9:30-10:45 AM at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Kanab City Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, Charlotte requested that you take your partner or a friend out to lunch or dinner, in remembrance of her.
