He was at home in Panguitch, his favorite place in the world. Sheldon had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He always had a good story to tell anyone who stopped to "Ha Ha" with him. Despite his miseries he maintained to the end, his ability to laugh and make others laugh. Sheldon was born February 19, 1937 in Panguitch, Utah to Frank and Zina Johnson Proctor. He grew up in Panguitch, spending his early summers on the farm down the river lane and winters in town. After graduating from Panguitch High School he attended Dixie College, then got his Physical Education teaching certificate from Utah State University. He taught and coached Basketball and Football for three years at Firth High School in Idaho. While teaching school in Idaho he was drafted into the army. Instead of the many places he could have been deployed at the time, Sheldon served his military time on a base in Oklahoma City where he was the clerk for the commanding officer. He completed paperwork in the mornings and golfed with the General in the afternoons. He obtained this post over many other applicants; not because of his office skills but because he didn't smoke. He met the new school marm in town while he was home on leave. Sheldon and Lucile Hunt were married November 27, 1964 in Enterprise, Utah. They were later sealed in the St. George Temple. They still live in a home he helped build next to the house where he was born. He taught Social Studies at Panguitch for 23 years. He coached boys basketball and baseball and later girls basketball and volleyball. His favorite calling he had in the LDS Church was Sunday School president. He shared a joke each week as he conducted and released the congregation to their classes. He loved his farm and spent many hours there with his father. He had a lot of horses that he liked but the "one he had been looking for" was Rock-a-way, now grazing in the pasture behind his house. He loved his family and felt blessed to have been given 3 wonderful daughters. He took them to the farm with him to help herd and brand the cattle. In connection with his farming, he was a member of many water boards. He made many good friends, who could hardly wait to see what he would say next. He brought some comic relief to otherwise boring meetings. Sheldon and his dad had their own vocabulary and a nickname for almost everyone. You were lucky if you knew what your nickname was. In the past few years, Sheldon lived for the times when his girls would bring their 11 children to over-run the entire Northwest section of Panguitch. He loved to watch them play all around his home and in his trees. They could often be found sitting on the arm of his chair, laughing and scratching his head. His Grandchildren are Brantley, Cameron, Kade and Shelby Morris, Kyler, Shelsey, Keaton and Shaylea Brinkerhoff and Hunter, Hayden and Abbie Dennis, and Chase and Zachary Hardin. Sheldon is survived by his wife Lucile, children; Patrice and Lee Hardin, Wimberley Texas, Roshell and Ryan Brinkerhoff, Mesa Arizona, Stacia and Derek Dennis, Boise, Idaho, former son-in-law Paul C. Morris, Cedar City, Utah, and sister-in-law, LaRae Proctor, West Valley City, Utah. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Garth and sister LaRee. His funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Panguitch 2nd Ward Chapel, 190 N. 400 E. Friends may call a the ward chapel in Panguitch on Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. and again at the ward chapel on Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary: Richfield, Salina and Manti.
