Hastings WASHINGTON - Margaret J. Hastings, 83, Washington, Utah, returned to her heavenly father Friday, February 25, 2005, at Kolob Care & Rehabilitation of St. George. She was born September 2, 1921 in Warwick, Australia. She is preceded in death by six brothers, Jack, Basil, Doug, Bernard, Max, and Desi; two husbands; Wasyl Hober and James D. Hastings. She is survived by two sons, William D. and Wayne J. Hober, and one daughter, Lynn J. Hamil; 16 grandchildren; Desiree, Mike, April, Anthony, Carrie, Jessica, Carlie, Stephanie, John, Nicole, Brooke, Cory, Michelle, Billy, Shawnee, and Bert, and 21 great grandchildren. A viewing will be held Monday March 1, 2005 at Hurricane Valley Mortuary from 6-7 P.M. and Tuesday March 2, 2005 from 9- 10 A. M. with graveside services at 10 A.M. at the Hurricane Cemetery. Graveside services will be conducted by Deacon O'Brien of the Catholic Church. Originally published February 26, 2005 Edwin Elias Leigh 1931-2005 CEDAR CITY - Edwin Elias Leigh, 73, died from post polio syndrome February 23, at Kolob Care Center in Cedar City, Utah. He was born September 22, 1931 in Cedar City to Elias Wood and Aline Walker Leigh. He attended Cedar City schools, then worked at various jobs until he was drafted into the Korean War. During his Army service, he was stricken with polio and became converted and activated in the LDS church. His illness also saved him from being sent to Korea with the rest of his company. When he recovered he was sent to Austria, where he was able to attend the dedication of the Bern Switzerland Temple. Wishing to use his GI bill, he attended CSU, now SUU. Here he met Sharon Clark, whom he courted and married June 5, 1959 in the St. George Temple. Ed transferred to Utah State University and graduated with a degree in biology and secondary education, he also completed a year of graduate work at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. He taught biology, physiology, and natural science at Cedar High School. He was in charge of the hiking club and a president of the Iron County Teachers Association. Ed loved nature and was an avid bird watcher. He spent 18 summers as a seasonal naturalist in Yellowstone National Park. Ed and his family enjoyed numerous hiking, camping and fishing expeditions. They canoed the lakes and rivers, and studied the geology, plant and wildlife. After retiring, Ed took numerous classes at the LDS Institute, and spent many hours working in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his wife and three children, Nathan (Donna) Leigh, Juneau, AK; Andrew (Roxie) Leigh, Iraq and Lacey, WA; and Alison (Beau) Kowalski, Henderson, NV: 11 grandchildren; sisters and brother Verda Baggett, Petaluma, CA, Bill (Verna) Leigh, Cedar City UT; Bonnie (Joe) Kelly, Los Angeles, CA; Nila June (Grant) Proctor, Boulder City, NV; and Thelma (Chuck) Buttars, Salt Lake City UT. Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Eleanor, grandson, Christopher Campopiano, sister, Ramoma Corry and his parents. Funeral services will be held Monday February 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Ninth Ward Chapel (256 S 900 W). Originally published February 26, 2005 Jose Romero Christine Barrick Worley CEDAR CITY - Christine Barrick Worley, 49, passed away February 22, 2005 in Cedar City, UT. She was born March 17, 1955 in Cedar City, UT to Elmer Robert Barrick and Corean Isom. She married John Lloyd Worley. Christine enjoyed the outdoors especially camping, fishing, and hiking. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband John of Cedar City, UT, daughter Tanya Lee (Todd Coburn) Stratton of Marysvale, UT; parents Elmer Robert Barrick of Hurricane, UT and Corean (Lorraine) Gubler of St. George, UT; brother Kevin Elmer (Marilyn) Barrick of St. George, UT; and sister Trudy (Fred Shears) Kholes of Washington, UT. She was preceded in death by her brother Douglas Robert Barrick and grandparents Blanch & George Isom, Martha Irene Blunck, and Norman Barrick. GEORGE - Jose Julian Romero, generally known as "Joe," returned to Heavenly Father and rejoined his eternal sweetheart, Roca on Thursday, 24 February, 2005. He was 93. Joe was born 19 June, 1911 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the son of Miguel Saavedra and Refugia Romero. He never knew his father, as he was a general in Pancho Villa's revolution and was executed. Joe grew up without any formal education, yet became a supervisor of over 100 Mexican workers for Zuckerman's, a large farming company headquartered in Stockton, CA. When the company expanded their operation into Enterprise, UT, Joe transported supplies there and met Roca Alger. She was a bookkeeper at the Enterprise farm. They were married 23 July, 1951 in Clark County, Nevada and later sealed together for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple. Joe was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings including a mission to Chile and as a temple worker. Following Roca's death in 1989, he married Della Knapp in 1994, They divorced in 2000, and have remained good friends. Joe is survived by: Della Knapp; son, Benny O'Neill; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his: wife Roca; step-son, Joseph Merrill Lunt; and stepdaughter, Maryann Lunt. Funeral services will be held Monday, 28 February, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. George 16th Ward Chapel, 550 East 700 South. Friends may call Monday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., prior to services at the Chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
