Reid Parkinson WELLSVILLE -- Reid Williamson Parkinson died December 29, 2004 in St. George, Utah from causes incident to age. He was born February 23, 1914 in Wellsville, Utah, the youngest of the five sons born to Joseph Woodward Parkinson and Rachel Amanda Williamson. He married Miriam Elizabeth Roundy on November 29, 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. Reid and Miriam lived in Wellsville and operated a dairy farm for over 40 years. While dairy farming was his career, it was also one of his most cherished passions. He loved "to monkey" with things on his farm including farm equipment, his cars, and home improvement projects. Reid also enjoyed shooting guns (he was still a dead shot into his late eighties), driving vehicles, and he never tired of the simple pleasure of eating delicious foods prepared by his loving wife, Miriam. Reid was well-known for his artistic abilities. He attended USU and studied with Everett Thorpe. He loved to work in oils and painted many pictures. He entered the first four world-wide LDS art competitions and placed in each of those shows. His painting of "Maughan's Fort" was purchased for the permanent exhibition area of the LDS Church Art Museum. The Wellsville mountain range was a favorite subject in his art. He was a life-long member of the Wellsville First Ward. He served there as a ward clerk, merit badge councilor, and dutiful home-teacher. As a member of the Wellsville Tabernacle Foundation, he helped in the restoration of the Wellsville Tabernacle. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his "tee-hee" breathless style of laughter. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren although his strong face did not let on to his soft, caring heart. For the last year, he has been living in sunny St. George, Utah to help alleviate joint pain in his knees and to see more of his wonderful daughter, Elaine. He had endured confusion from Alzheimer's for a number of years. He is finally able to rest. He is survived by his wife, Miriam; his children: J. Reid (Cindy), Minneapolis; Don (Marilyn), Atlanta; Julie (Michael) Allen, Brigham City; Elaine (Drew Pearce) Pilkington, St. George and grandchildren: Donovan, Wyatt, Heather, Thea, Jared, Mandy, Charity, and Michael Reid; great-grandchildren: Jessica, Jacob Reid, and Nicholas.
