Hinton HURRICANE - Antone W. Hinton, age 78, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, in Hurricane. He was born September 30, 1926, in Hurricane, Utah, to James M. and Cleesa C. Cox Hinton. Antone married Mauna Rae on September 26, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1987. He then married Norine Stapley on February 20, 1990. Antone was born and raised in Hurricane, graduating from Hurricane High School. In 1948, he joined the U.S. Army, serving for two years. While living in LaVerkin, he worked for the California Pacific Utility Company for 20 years. He lived in Henderson, Nevada, for two years, working at OK Tires. Antone was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Northeastern mission. He also served in the LaVerkin bishopric and as a temple ordinance worker. Antone loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the outdoors. He was a member of the Hurricane American Legion. Surviving family include his: wife, Norine, of Hurricane, UT; three sons, Irvin Hinton, of Phoenix, AZ, Antone Ray Hinton, of Moapa, NV, and Craig (Lucinda) Hinton, of Mesquite, NV; two daughters, Marlene (John) Williams, of Mesquite, NV, and Jill (Jon) Paxman, of St. George; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Chuck (Laurie) Cracraft, Marie (Reed) Langston, and Grant Cracraft, all of Hurricane, UT; 10 step-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-grandchild; brothers, Glendon Hinton, of Hurricane, UT, and Orvin D. (Sally) Hinton, of St. George. He was preceded in death by his: parents; daughter, Susan Hinton; brothers, LaVar, Dale, and Merwin Hinton; and sisters, Vonne Dungan, and Melva and Elva Hinton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane 5th Ward Chapel, 274 S. 100 W., Hurricane, with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Chapel. Originally published July 6, 2005 Brent R. Nelson IVINS - Brent R. Nelson, age 61, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. He was born November 27, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Louis Gordon and Ellen Emery Nelson. He married Sherry Goff, and to this union was born a daughter, Jodi. They later divorced. He married Lucy Morrison, and to this union were born four children, Sandy, Brenda Jo, Shane, and Tami. They later divorced. He married Kathi Hayes, and to this union was born a son, Robert. They, too, later divorced. Brent was born and raised in Salt Lake City where he attended and graduated from Olympus High School. He was on the wrestling team, and was very accomplished in athletics, especially gymnastics. After graduation, he moved to St. George to attend Dixie College. He was on the cheerleading squad. He loved St. George so much that he never left. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for the City of St. George, for about 12 years, as Greens Superintendent with Golf Pro Brent Orchard at Red Hills Golf Course. He also worked for a period of time for the Bloomington Country Club, as golf pro shop manager. He loved golf. Brent especially enjoyed caring for the golf course and Mother Nature's landscape. He also worked for Anderson Lumber, and later he worked construction throughout the St. George area. Brent very much enjoyed bowling, and he bowled on various bowling leagues for many years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Brent had many friends and associates who would describe him as a jokester, party boy, life of the party, loads of fun, and happy-go-lucky. He will be greatly missed. Surviving family include his: children, Jodi (Bryan) Carlson, of Northern Utah, Sandy (Cameron) Orvin, of McMinville, OR, Brenda (Joe) Hoff, of Snoqualemie, WA, Shane Nelson, of St. George, UT, Tamara (Glen) Anderson, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Robert Hayes Nelson, of Litchfield, AZ; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Barbara) Nelson, of St. George and Brigham City, UT, Glen (Janet) Nelson, of Holladay, UT, and Elaine (Gil) Limb, of Vernal, UT. Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ellen. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Mortuary. Originally published July 6, 2005 DEATH NOTICE John Elmer Pfunder John E. Pfunder, 91, died July 5, 2005, at 1 a.m. at his home in Mesquite, Nev. Pfunder died from natural causes. He was born March 17, 1914 in Rockville, Tolland County, Conn. He is survived by his second wife, Jean Slater Pfunder. He is also survived by his children of his first wife Frances: Michael Stanley Pfunder of Phoenix, Linda Mary (Bob) Housley of Hooper, Margo Mae Pfunder (Chad Gagnon) of Crescent, Calif., Christine Ann (Rodwicke) Ybarra of Orem, his adopted daughter Ida C. Begay (Buddy) Bradley of Fruitland, N.M., Jon Daniel (Kristine) Pfunder, of Provo, Neil Aaron (Roxy) Pfunder of Idaho Falls, Idaho. A viewing will be on Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Virgin Valley Mortuary.
