GEORGE UT - Dorothea "Thea" Christine John Yeager died on July 22, 2005 after suffering many years from Alzheimer's Disease. She was the wife and best friend of Bernard E. Yeager for 57 years. Thea is the mother of seven children: Christine Young of Arcadia, CA, Pamela Wright of North Salt Lake, UT, Dr. Stuart Yeager of Sandy, UT, Wendy Brickel of Franklin, TN, Thea Clark of Logan, UT and Craig Yeager of Hyrum, UT. Her youngest son, Drew, preceded her in death in 2000. She is a grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of three. Dorothea was the only child of Edgar John and Katie Cyriaks and was born June 26, 1925 in Bronx, New York City, NY. She was raised in the village of Tuckahoe in West Chester County, NY. Thea graduated from Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, PA with a degree in Textile Merchandising in their Home Economics College. She then attended New York University and Columbia University to obtain a Teaching Certification. While at Drexel, she met Bernie, a Naval Veteran from World War II and they fell in love. They were married August 14, 1948. Thea taught Home Economics at the suburban Philadelphia High School until Bernie graduated and began working. Thea became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1951. They were sealed in the Logan Temple in 1959. They raised their family in Merchantville, Haddonfield and Cherry Hill, NJ. Thea held many positions in Primary and Relief Society and was a very supportive wife of a Bishop. She taught many children how to swim and was a certified Water Safety Instructor. She was a substitute school teacher. Thea was a good ping-pong player and enjoyed playing tennis. Thea was a very gifted seamstress and had many talents in the crafts. Her talents have blessed every room in our home. She enjoyed the National Parks and hiked many of the trails in Southern Utah They retired and moved to St. George in 1986 and served a Historical Site Mission in St. George in 1988-89. They did many other volunteer jobs and were temple workers until the disease caused her to stop. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2005, 11 a.m., Bloomington Hills 5th Ward Chapel, 1130 E. Brigham Rd., St. George, UT. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. and Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the 5th Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. Condolences may be sent through the Metcalf Mortuary website at www.metcalfmortuary.com.
