Born April 20, 1915 in Cedar City, Utah to Lenora Adams and George Bacon. Married John W. Bess April 28, 1933; later solemnized in the SL Temple May 27, 1947. John passed away on July 28, 1990. Ramona was known to her family as the "Cookie Grandma." Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She taught many classes on sourdough recipes and always had sourdough pancakes for everyone when we were camping. She was a good friend to neighbors and always serving others. She was a great example to others of the Savior's love. She was an exceptional mother to her six boys and a "fantastic" mother-in-law and loved her daughter-in-laws like her own daughters. Survived by her children, Richard Bess (Vera) Altamont, UT; Larry Bess (Connie) Sandy, UT; Michael Bess (Lois), Spiro, OK; John Bess (Kathy), South Jordan, UT; Dave Bess (Debbie), Bluffdale, UT; 18 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Betty; and son, Robert Bess. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2005 at 10:00 am at the Murray 11th Ward, 5750 South Nena Way (100 West). Friends may call Thursday, July 28th from 6-8 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St. and from 9:00-9:45 am at the church prior to services on Friday. Interment Cedar City Cemetery on Friday at 5 p.m. Originally published July 27, 2005 Geraldine Brinkerhoff Charrier Junction - Geraldine Brinkerhoff Charrier, 77, recently of Mesquite, Nevada, and formerly of Junction, Utah, passed away July 24, 2005 in Mesquite. She was born May 1, 1928, in Orderville, Utah, to Bert and Leola Chamberlain Brinkerhoff. She married Joseph Morgan of Circleville, Utah, they later divorced. Geraldine married Roy Charrier in 1975 in Springville. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a very special mom and grandma. She had a heart of gold. She is survived by her husband, Roy Charrier, Mesquite; son, Russel (Cheryl) Morgan, St. George; ten grandchildren: Russel (Kylie) Morgan, Caitlin (Jason) Robison, Brenna Morgan, Savanna Morgan, Shyanna Morgan, Nicholas Roberts, Melissa Roberts, Courtney Roberts, Sarah Roberts, Emily Roberts; great-granddaughter, Kinsey Robison; brothers, Hal (Kathy) Brinkerhoff, Mapleton; Carvel (Pat) Brinkerhoff, Springville; sister, Eloise (Warren) Forsythe , St. George; and many nieces and nephews. He was born August 7, 1906, in Enoch, Utah, a son of Charles Edward and Ada Olivia Smith Jones. He married Melvina Gardner on April 21, 1933, in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They were the parents of five children. Ted's childhood was spent in Enoch, farming with his father and learning to shear sheep with his brothers. He attended school in Cedar City, Utah, and went on to Branch Agricultural College, in Cedar City, and BYU, in Provo, Utah. He has lived in several different places and had a variety of jobs and hobbies. He loved to be outdoors. Ted's woodwork and rock work were enjoyed by many. Surviving family include his: children, Lorna (Bailey) Muir, of Leeds, UT, Lyle G. (Grace) Jones, of Goldsboro, NC, M. LaVelle (Judy) Jones, of Elko, NV, and Rhonda (George) Mathias, of Westminster, CO; 13 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva; son, Kelvin Lee Jones; and all of his brothers and sisters, Stanford, Elroy, Raymond, Belle Webster, and Ivie Williams. There will be a gathering Thursday, July 28, 2005, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary. Click on the rose. Originally published July 27, 2005 Henry Ellis Whitaker Hurricane - Henry Ellis Whitaker, 85, returned to his Father in Heaven on Sunday, July 24, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born April 18, 1920, in Memphis, Tennessee, to William O. and Alice Ellis Whitaker. He married E. Irene King on March 14, 1942, in Tampa, Florida. Ellis worked for the railroad for 37 years as a special agent, which allowed him to live in various places. He enjoyed tennis, golf, and fencing. He also loved spending many days with his family at the beach in Florida. He served in the United States Air Force. Ellis was also a Boy Scout Leader and a Superintendent at the Episcopal Church in Florida. He was serving as a Verger at the Grace Episcopal Church in St. George, Utah. He truly enjoyed being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they loved him. He is survived by his: wife, Irene, residing in Hurricane; five children, Lynne Lister, of Antioch, CA, Gail Hardcastle, of Hurricane, UT, Richard Whitaker, of Las Vegas, NV, Douglas Whitaker, of Albuquerque, NM, and Deborah Hatfield, of Evansville, IN; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William O. Whitaker, of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kimberly Alyne Judd. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 8:40 a.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
