Carlson LEHI - Wesley Burtis Carlson, age 89 of Lehi, died May 30, 2005 at the Huntsman Hospital in Salt Lake City of heart failure. He was born Nov. 27, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Erick Gustav and Sophie Ellen Oakeson Carlson. He married Deidamia Atwood June 25, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died July 10, 1998. Wesley was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He worked at Geneva Steel where he retired and he also enjoyed farming and carpentry work. throughout his life. He served in the LDS Church as a Stake Missionary, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President, and Home Teacher, and he was an avid temple patron. Survived by four sons and one daughter, Wesley Raymond Carlson and Steven Lawrence (Mary) Carlson, both of Lehi; Sherman Arthur (Irene) Carlson, Yakima, WA; Myron Kent (LuAnn) Carlson, American Fork; and Becky Sue (Max) Hunt, Sandy; 23 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; brother and sisters, Eldon (Lola) Carlson, and Jean Jackson, both of Salt Lake City; Louise Mecham, Twin Falls, ID. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Hollow 4th Ward Chapel, 1020 E. 1900 No, Lehi. Friends and family may call at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Originally published June 1, 2005 Kathy Cottam MESQUITE, Nev. - Kathy Cottam passed away Friday, May 27, 2005, at her home in Mesquite, Nevada, of heart failure. She was born August 23, 1958, in Kanab, Utah, to Lester George and Lorna Little Cottam. She graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City in 1976 and later worked as an EMS dispatcher in Salt Lake and as a cashier in Mesquite. Kathy was a kind and caring person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She especially loved her nieces and nephews and was equally loved by them. She is survived by her brother, L. Gary Cottam, of Salt Lake City, and her sister Lea (Tim) Thompson, of Hurricane; nephews, Steven Cottam, of Salt Lake City; Ted, Andy and Dan Thompson, of Hurricane; nieces, Laura, Leslie and Tamsy Thompson, of Hurricane; and great niece, Misha, of Salt Lake City. Click on the rose. Originally published June 1, 2005 Henry Lee Meacham Henry Lee Meacham died May 30, 2005 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 12, 1928. He married Cleda Mae Struthers on August 23, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children: Allen Lee, David Roy, Garry Lynn and Roger Dean. His wife, Cleda, Died December 15, 1956. He then married Venna Coy Binggeli. She had three children from a previous marriage. Lee and Coy had two children during their marriage: William Blaine and Edith Gaye. They were later divorced. He then married Patricia Berrett. she had five children from a previous marriage. Lee and Pat had two children during their marriage: David Lee and Lelan Patrick. They later divorced. Lee had many challenges as a child and lived much of his childhood life with his aunt and uncle. While living with them, he became fond of farming. He enjoyed the opportunity to work with animals. He enjoyed this so much, in fact, that early n his married life he moved to Alameda California to attend veterinary school. His dream was to become a veterinarian. This dream did not become true for various reasons, but much of Lee's life occupation was running farms for the LDS church. He ran his first church farm in the 1950's in Davis County, Utah, then another in the 1970's and 80's in Washington County, Utah. Lee was happiest during these years. He enjoyed hard work in the farming industry. Aside of the many years in the farming business, Lee was involved in trucking and police work. He had different experiences in both of these positions, and enjoyed the opportunities they offered. Lee served both his church and his country. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission in the Midwest where he always said he had a chance to work with Native Americans. He learned to love them very much. He never actually learned a native language, but would often use strange words in his conversations, explaining that they were Navajo. During World War II, Lee took the opportunity to serve two years as a "CB" on Navy Construction Crews. This service was cut short due to the end of the war. Lee's later years were filled with service at the Enterprise Senior Citizen Center. He is survived by his eight children: Allen Lee (Sherrie) of Knoxville, Tennessee; David Roy (Kristi) of Roy, Utah; Garry Lynn (Donna) of Phoenix, Arizona; Roger Dean (Janel) of Washington, Utah; William Blaine of Salt Lake City, Utah; Edith Gaye of Roy, Utah; David Lee (Michelle) of St. George; and Lelan Patrick of St. George. He has 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, one brother, and his first wife. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3 at 10:30 am at the Enterprise 1st ward chapel. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at the Washington Heights Memorial Park in Ogden Utah. Originally published June 1, 2005 Steven Pilling ST. GEORGE - Steven Pilling passed on May 29, 2005, unexpectedly at the age of 39 due to a massive heart attack. He was born April 7, 1966 to Keith and Laurie Pilling. He was a loving and caring husband, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and step father. He leaves behind his wife Betsy Ruth Walter Pilling, step children, and two grandchildren who he loved very much, his parents Keith and Laurie Pilling, his grandmother, brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Keith Pilling, Sr. He will be loved and missed very much. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 2, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. GEORGE - David Lee Probst, age 57, passed away peacefully, may 29, in St. George (Dixie Regional Medical Center) due to complications from surgery. He was born in Heber City, Utah on April 10,1948 to David and Vivienne Probst. He married Sandra Raye Wood May 3, 1980 and had two beautiful daughters, Jeanette Lee and Lynnette Anne Probst. Lee graduated from Wasatch High School and served an LDS mission in Peru. He worked 25 dedicated years at Steve Regan Company in Salt Lake City, earning a vast amount of loyal customers and friends. He never met a person he didn't like, his friendly attitude made him well known in the Heber Valley. He loved to be outdoors, and he was never idle. He spent most of his free time herding sheep, irrigating, hunting, gardening with Sandi, sitting in the hot tub, and for the last four weeks of his short life, playing with his new grandbaby, McKenna Sala, daughter of Jeanette and Michol Sala. He had many fond memories of traveling with his family, including several trips to Ixtapa, Mexico for deep sea fishing, sightseeing, fun in the sun, and renewing wedding vows on the beach. Our loving father and doting grandfather, Lee, is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, two daughters, Jeanette (Michol) Sala, Lynnette Probst, his two step-daughters, Dayna (Gary) Moore and Tanya (Charles) Pope, six grandchildren, McKenna Grace Sala, Charles and Karissa Pope, Madison, Morgan and Michael Moore, two brothers, Neil Pete (Peggy), Hal (Glenda), and one sister, Jolene (Jerry) Turner. He is preceded in death by his 2 sisters, Shere and Lawana, and his beloved parents, David and Vivienne Probst. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3 in Midway, Utah at the Midway Stake Center with a viewing Thursday, May 2 prior to services. Internment will be in the Midway City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin-Hoopes Mortuary. Originally published June 1, 2005 Stephen Milo Reeve Stephen Milo Reeve of Hurricane, Utah died 28 May 2005 at the age of 62, due to a horse accident. He was born in Hurricane, Utah, September 19, 1942 and married Katherine Kay Alger on the May 4 1967, in the St. George LDS Temple. He graduated from Southern Utah State College in 1969 and went on to BYU and earned a Masters in Physical Education. He taught school in Pocatello, Idaho. In 1976, he was offered a position at Idaho Bank and Trust, now Key Bank, and he worked in the banking industry until his retirement. He then returned to Hurricane to assist with the family ranch. He retained an active interest in sporting events, served in various callings in the LDS church, including Bishop. He his life-long love was being on the ranch on the Arizona strip. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Kay Reeve of Hurricane, and his six children, David Orlas of Magna, Mrs. Patricia Haggard of Silverdale, Washington, Mrs. Janna Streibel of Marsing, Idaho, Randy Leo, of Payson, Tracey Curtis of Logan, and Mrs. OraLynn Manweller, of Ellensburg, Washington, and eight grandchildren. Also survived by his stepmother, Ruth Reeve, half brothers James and Paul Reeve and sister, Roene Reeve. He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Ora Hirschi Reeve and his brother David Leo Reeve. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 1 2005, at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Originally published June 1, 2005 Dick McKay Shumway ST. GEORGE - Dick McKay Shumway, 72, died on March 25, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born March 9, 1933, in Kanab to Amos Floyd and Dica Willis Shumway. He married Kathleen Richards of Tropic on July 1, 1952, in St. George. Dick was raised in Tropic, Utah. He has lived in Idaho, Oregon, California and returned to Utah in his later years. Dick spent his free time as an artist and enjoyed painting, woodwork, construction and anything creative. He had the unique ability to create beauty from anything. He was employed by Prudential Realty in St. George. His greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Christine Shumway. He was survived by four children: Claudia (Barton) Busath of San Diego, CA., Rick (Susan) Shumway of Casper, WY., Bobi (Rich) Taylor of Alta Loma, CA., and Kristy (Jamie) McMahon of Magrath, Alberta, Canada, 15 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Jean Barnhurst- Molyneux, and brothers Floyd, Darryl and Jay. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah. A gathering will be held Friday, June 3, beginning at 10 a.m., prior to services at the mortuary.
