She was born May 22, 1924 in Milford, Utah to Warren & Lillian Tanner Atkin. She married Robert L. "Bob" Carter on May 21, 1945 in Milford, Utah. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had many friends and was loved by many. She enjoyed reading, traveling with her husband racing horses and spending time up at the cabin, especially deer hunting. One of Irene's passions was keeping things neat and clean. She was a wonderful cook and loved to sew. She worked as a secretary for the Utah Telluride Power Company in Milford during World War II while Bob was in the service. Irene is survived by her husband Bob of Milford. Daughter, Elaine Wescott of Carlin, Nevada and Son, Douglas (Eva) Carter of Milford. Grandchildren, Chris Carter of Salt Lake City, Greg (Haily) Carter of Milford, Trevor (Cynthia) Carter of Milford, Lisa (Craig) Thompson of Milford, Tammy Hollingshead of Carlin, NV., Tonya (Bill) Collins of Carlin, NV., JR (Misty) Hollingshead of Shoshone, Idaho. She has 12 great grandchildren. Sisters, Lois (Deward) Nay of West Valley City and LaRue (Max) Williams of West Valley City. She was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Ann Carter, her parents Warren & Lillian Atkin and one brother, Charles Atkin. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 3:00PM at the graveside in Milford Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday evening from 7:00PM to 8:00PM at the Southern Utah Mortuary in Milford and on Friday from 1:30PM to 2:30PM at the Mortuary. Originally published June 2, 2005 ames Alma Eyre MINERSVILLE - James Alma Eyre, 81, passed away at the Beaver Valley Hospital on May 30, 2005. James has left this earthy life for a fishing trip to heaven. James was born July 26, 1923 in Minersville, the son of James Alma & Hazel Leona Jones Eyre. He married Renee Williams June 25, 1942 in Minersville, and their marriage was later solemnize in the St George LDS Temple on March 28, 1964. He is the father of Alma Jeanne (James) Edwards of Delta, Lucy Joan (Mitchell) Myers of Delta, James Spence (Linda) Eyre of Minersville, Janet Leona (Richard) Oakden of Beaver, Darla (Russell) Callister of Delta and Jody Lea (Michael) Robinson of Vernal. He has 29 Grandchildren, 67 Great Grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. He graduate from Beaver High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force and served 3 years in intelligence as a radio operator during the 2nd World War serving most of that time in Italy. During his basic training in Florida, he was credited and later was to receive a medal for saving a man from drowning in the ocean. Upon returning from the service he attended USU for 3 1/2 years in agriculture on a scholarship from Sears & Roebuck. After school he returned to Minersville where he managed the Minersville Dairy Association for 30 years. He served as the secretary for the Rocky Ford Irrigation Co. He was the mayor of Minersville for four years where he was responsible for a new water system and flood control. Also during his term as mayor Minersville was lit up with its first ever street lights. He along with a friend were credited with the first reception station for television. With no cell phones they signaled each other with flash lights to get the reception just right. He loved to go hunting and fishing and playing the guitar and harmonica. He also loved training horses with his son and grandson for Eyre Racing Stables. His true love was being with his sweetheart singing with his children and playing with his grandchildren.James was a member of the LDS Church serving in many positions. He was preceded in death by his Father & Mother, brother Donald and a great grandson Jaxon Spence Eyre. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Minersville LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Originally published June 2, 2005 Cleopha Henderson, Together Again ORDERVILLE - Cleopha Anderson Henderson returned to her Heavenly Father, husband and loved ones on May 26, 2005 in Parowan, Utah. She was born Dec. 29, 1929 in Blanding, Utah to James Ephraim Anderson and Martha Jane Mangum Anderson Allred. Cleopha was the only girl of five children. She was very close to her father and loved him very much. At an early age, Cleopha went to Salt Lake City to work as a nanny for the McDonald family, who are famous for their chocolates. When her sweetheart Ned Henderson returned home from the Army, they were married in the Manti LDS Temple on June 25, 1953. She always enjoyed doing things with Ned, her children and grandchildren throughout her life. Cleopha's last job was working at the Senior Citizen's Center in Orderville as bookkeeper. She greatly enjoyed working there. She was an excellent seamstress, making most of her own clothes, and also some of those of her children and grandchildren. She was also excellent at crocheting and could make just about anything. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and loved reading church books. Her callings had included various Primary and Relief Society positions. She served a full-time mission with Ned in South Dakota from 1988-89. Cleopha is survived by four children, Gary & Jillyn Henderson of Cedar City, Eugene "Hodder" & MarLee Henderson of Fredonia, AZ, Gayle & Len Johnson of Cleveland, UT, and Mark & Tracy Henderson of Panguitch, UT; brother Fred Anderson of Murray, UT; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Noreen Henderson, great granddaughter Sariah Johnson, and brothers Elmo, Lawrence, and Virgil Anderson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Orderville LDS Chapel, with viewing from 9:45-10:45 AM. Burial will be in the Orderville Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. Originally published June 2, 2005 Lex P. Wilkinson CEDAR CITY - Lex P. Wilkinson, age 90, passed away on May 28, 2005 at his own home in Cedar City, Utah. He was born December 18, 1914 to Percy N. and Julia Williams Wilkinson. Lex married Kerstine "K" Seaman Wilkinson on August 26, 1937 in Scipio, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized at a later date in the St. George Temple. "K" preceded him in death on March 8, 1991. Lex was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He also worked at the iron mine, west of Cedar City for 30 years starting April 15, 1942. He started as a bench chemist and was promoted to a supervisor of two of Columbia Steel's chemical analysis laboratories. During his employment with Columbia Steel, he originated a process for spectrographic analysis of iron ore, which gained him international recognition. Lex was an avid hunter, fisherman, and amateur photographer. Lex is survived by a son, Kent S. Wilkinson and his wife, Virginia of Freeport, Maine; grandchildren, Jan Wilkinson and Sean Wilkinson of Portland, Maine; a brother, Jay Wilkinson of California; sisters-in-law, Alice Seaman Tuckett, Mary A. Seaman and Mary Jane M. Seaman, all of Cedar City, Utah; Dawn Ann Seaman Bailey and Bertha Seaman Stromberg of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lail Wilkinson of St. George, Utah; Gaye Davis Seaman of Show Low, Arizona; Patra Young Seaman of Lompoc, California; and many nieces and nephews. Lew was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Kay Wilkinson and his daughter-in-law Rolene F. Wilkinson. The family would like to express their appreciation and thank you for the many years of care and service to Lex and "K" given by Shirleen Chaffee and family, and to all his many care givers over the past year. Originally published June 2, 2005 Enid Chivers Thompson Enid Chivers Thompson passed away peacefully at her home in Provo on May 30, 2005, of cancer. She was born March 18, 1922 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Hyrum and Rose Kinghorn Chivers. She was the fourth of six children. Enid married DelMar N. Thompson on March 14, 1944 at Mojave, California and they were sealed three months later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She attended schools in Lewisville, Idaho and graduated Valedictorian of her senior class from Midway High School. She also attended Utah State University and Idaho State University. She and her husband relocated many times during their fifty plus years together, living in California, Idaho, Washington, and Utah. Enid was the mother of 8 children, grandmother of 22 and great-grandmother of 22. Enid was active in the LDS Church, serving in many of the auxiliaries in a variety of callings. She loved serving others and made everyone feel welcome in her home. She will be remembered for her delicious meals, her love of visiting and her ability to make everyone feel good about themselves. She was loved by friends and family alike and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, James D. (Sue) Thompson, St. George; Sherry (Vincent) Kay, Provo; Douglas (Lisa) Thompson, Pleasant Grove; Dennis Thompson, Seattle, WA; Kurt (Carie) Thompson, Ivins; Kim (Ami) Thompson, Salt Lake City; Bob (Johanna) Thompson, Salt Lake City, and a step daughter, Carolyne Blount, Ramona, CA. One sister, Stella Harris, Rexburg, ID, and two brothers, Jim Chivers, Las Vegas, NV and Dr. Robert Chivers, Boise, ID, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Del, an infant daughter, Kathleen and two great-grandsons, Jake and Noah. Conwell, 49, died Monday, May 30, 2005, in the Kolob Regional Care Center in Cedar City. He was born in St. George, Utah, on Dec. 29, 1955. He is survived by his brother: Charles D.
