GEORGE - Edward O 'Brian Mann, 79, passed away peacefully at home June 9, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born in Tempe, Arizona, on September 26, 1925, to Alfred Edward Mann and Nellie Elizabeth Corley. He married Elaine Peterson in Salt Lake City on August 30, 1945. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in March 1951. Ed grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and attended a military high school during the years of World War II. He was commissioned an Air Force officer right at the end of the war. After marrying Elaine, a Riverton farm girl, he returned to Phoenix to work in his father's trucking company. He was recalled into the Air Force during the Korean War and served as a navigator and bombardier in B-29s in Japan. He made the Air Force his career, serving on flight crews in B47s and B52s. With his family, he lived on Air Force bases all over the country, including four years in Puerto Rico. After retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel, he lived in Springville, Salt Lake City, and St. George, Utah. Ed loved his family and was devoted to his beloved wife, Elaine. They were inseparable. He traveled with Elaine frequently, read mystery novels and other interesting books, and enjoyed the calm and peaceful retired life at home. All he really needed to be happy was to be with his wife. He loved to play games and spent many evenings playing with friends and families. As a younger man, he enjoyed exploring the desert. Whenever he saw a dirt road leading off into the wild, he always wanted to go see where it went. Ed knew how to do everything and was always available to help his family, his neighbors, and friends. He always made people feel their opinions were very important. He took the time to truly listen. Ed was an active and enthusiastic member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served as High Councilor and in several bishoprics.
