He was born October 13th, 1919 in Parowan, Utah to Joseph Moroni Jensen and Rhoda Elizabeth Gurr. LaMar grew up in Parowan, attended Parowan High School and BAC, Branch Agricultural College, in Cedar City, Utah. He was drafted into the Army in March, 1941, and was serving in the military when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. He was a communication specialist and then later was in the 751st Tank Battalion. He served in Africa and Italy during WWII and spent 6 months in the army hospital in California with Malaria. He served almost five years before he was discharged. LaMar loved music and had a beautiful voice. He sang in many programs that were held all over Southern Utah from the time he was a boy. He also wrote poetry and music. LaMar and his good friend, Johnny Guyer, wrote an Army show that was performed for their entire outfit. He composed music for his family and for the community. One song, "Parowan, the Mother Town," is sung by all of the students in school. As a young man LaMar was elected to the Parowan City Council. He was given the cemetery as a project. At that time, there was no lawn and weeds covered the lots. He wrote letters to all the survivors who had family buried in the cemetery, suggesting that for a small contribution there could be perpetual care for the burial plots. The letters did not mention a fee but people immediately sent money. The outpouring of interest started the cemetery project. LaMar had a small farm and raised Charolais cows and calves. He took pride in his big calves and the cows that raised them. He had a good work ethic and always wanted to keep busy. He was a businessman. He owned the Roller Skating Rink/Dance Hall in the Brown Derby. He also owned the LaRoma Caf‚; then he managed the Southern Utah Dairy Coop. He served as the Iron County Treasurer for many years. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served on the High Council, as a bishop, as counselor of two bishops, and as a counselor in the Stake Presidency. LaMar married his love, Roma Lyman on June 30th, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. They were blessed with 3 children: William Gary (Ruthanna) Jensen, Bonnie (Steven) Thayer, and Terry (Ron) Hirschi. They have 17 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
