GEORGE - Charles Beverley Hansen, age 87, passed away at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Charles was born June 18, 1917, in Sacramento, California, a son of Charles and Lucinda Washington Hansen. He married Carmen Davis in 1942, at Mesa, Arizona. After 55 years of marriage, Carmen passed away in 1997. In 1998, Charles married Miriam Prince. Charles lived in Sacramento until 1927, when he moved to Reno, Nevada, and graduated from Reno High School, Class of 1935. During this time, he discovered his passion for flying. His many talents included creating stained glass and woodworking. Charles was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held various positions, spending many years in the Scouting program. Charles worked five years for Standard Oil throughout the Northern California area. He moved to Provo, Utah, pursuing his flying dreams. There, he met his future wife, Carmen. They moved to Mesa, Arizona, where their first child was born. During their stay, he instructed Royal (British) Air Force Cadets in how to fly at Falcon Field during World War II. After the war, they moved to Stockton, California where they had their four other children. While living in Stockton, Charles worked with his dad in the wholesale grocery business for 15 years. He worked at Cal-Wool Marketing for 22 years as Office Manager, and he retired in 1982, moving to St. George, Utah, in 1991. Charles is survived by his: wife, Miriam; daughter, Caren Ann Cathcart; sons, Michael Charles (Verna), John Larry, and Carl Gregory (Miriam); and daughter, Mandy (Lane) Pearson; 11 grandchildren; 6 greatgrandchildren; sister, Martha Jones, of Reno, NV; and extended families. The family would like to thank Dr. Mary Ann McDonnell and the many health care specialists who helped Charles during his fight with cancer. They would also like to thank family, friends, and ward members for their thoughts, prayers, and visits. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Mortuary. Originally published June 16, 2005 Lee Marion Hansen ST. GEORGE - Lee Marion Hansen, 72, passed away June 12, 2005 in St. George, Utah. He was born November 30, 1932 to Alfred Henry Hansen and Lydia Sophia Hindberg in Corinne, Utah. He married Ruth Carol Mann on July 22, 1955 in Garland, Utah and their marriage was sealed in the Logan Temple on December 14, 1956. Lee was a Korean War veteran and served his country from July 1952 to May 1954. His years of employment included working at Swifts, farming and 34 years at Thiokol. He served as Scout and Explorer Leader in the Ward and Stake. He was a devout member of the LDS Church and was an Elder's Quorum President and Executive Secretary. Lee loved working in his yard and had a lawn that was envied by all. He inherited his father's passion for woodworking and took great pleasure in it. He also enjoyed playing the washtub base with his brothers, Wes, Vern and Dee in the "Sharecroppers" band. He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Carol Lee (Kevin) Parrish, Mesquite, NV, Sally (John) Higley, Perry, UT, Lisa (Thom) Payne, Phelan, California, Darrel (Lisa) Hansen, Las Vegas, NV, Linda (Ross) Deters, Grand Junction, CO, and Mitzi (Eric) Mahler, Pickerington, OH; 32 grandchildren; and 17-1¬2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005, 12 p.m., St. George LDS Riverbend Ward Chapel, 2583 E 350 N, St. George, Utah. Visitation will be Saturday, June 18, 10-11:30 a.m., prior to services at the Chapel. Originally published June 16, 2005 Melissa Yvonne Snow Murphy May 18, 1958 - June 13, 2005 Melissa was born in St. George, Utah to Beverly Snow, a member of the Shivwits Community. Melissa attended grade school in St. George until the age of 8 at which time she was enrolled with the "Indian Student Placement Program" through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Melissa was placed in Blanding, Utah where she attended school. From there she was placed in the loving home of Mr. And Mrs. Rodney Hasler of Sunset, Utah. While there she attended Clearfield High School. Melissa earned her diploma from the Washington County Adult High School in 1982. Melissa made her home in the community on the Shivwits Paiute Reservation. She was full blood Paiute Heritage of which she was extremely proud. Melissa enjoyed painting, especially on ceramic pots; also beading and collecting nickknacks, art, and other treasures from relatives and friends. Her greatest love was that for her only sibling, her sister and a great love for children and people less fortunate. Melissa will be remembered fondly and humorously for her super personality, her strong conviction in that which she believed, also for her compassion and willingness to give of herself. She has been valiant through the years dealing with many health aliments. Unable to bear children of her own never dimmed her "mothering" instincts. All the neighbor children including most small cousins called her 'Auntie Mel.' Melissa enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Her home was always open to family, friends and strangers to gather for a feast on the big holidays. Her doors were open to all. Melissa married Norman Otto Murphy in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1974 after which they moved to Geary, Oklahoma. She returned home after his death in 1981. Melissa was also preceded in death by her grand parents: Stewart and Mary Snow. Her mother and numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Melissa is survived by her sister; Vanessa (Donnie) Tom and their children Nelson and Nicklas all of Ivins, Utah. Her companion of 16 years, William Tillahash of Shivwits. Two Aunts; Eldene Cervantes and Donnitta Woughter both of Shivwits. An Uncle; Angus Snow, also of Shivwits. Her small cousins of whom she cared for during the past year as if they were her own, all brothers and sisters; Selissa Big Soldier, Julio Big Soldier, Regina Gonzales and Javier Gonzales Jr. "J.J." Also many cousins and tons of friends. There will be a celebration of her life with a Night Wake from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on Thursday the 16th day of June 2005. An All Night Sing on Friday the 17th day of June 2005. Both will take place in the Community Center on the Shivwits Indian Reservation. Funeral Services will be held Saturday morning the 18th day of June 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the Shivwits Community Center. Interment will be in the Shivwits Cemetery, under the direction of Heideman Mortuary. Originally published June 16, 2005 Feurmin Archie Sullivan ST. GEORGE -Feurmin Archie Sullivan, 75, passed away June 12, 2005, at his home in Central, Utah. He was born October 15, 1929, in Hurricane, Utah to Cleo A. Sullivan and Eola Stratton. He married Lorraine Lytle on May 15, 1948, in the St. George LDS Temple. Feurmin was raised in St. George and graduated from Dixie College. He moved to California where he owned and operated a successful construction company, Feurmin Industries. After retiring Feurmin returned to Central where he enjoyed his garden and was especially famous for his tomatoes. He is survived by his wife: Lorraine Lytle Sullivan; children: Keith (Nelessa) Sullivan of St. George, LaVon (Lonnell) Pebworth of Marshall, TX, Paul (Cindy) Sullivan of Santa Clara, UT, Janet (Kevin) Mohr of Tucson, AZ, and Drew (Shauna) Sullivan of Canyon Lake, CA; sisters: LaPrele Jurjevitch of Carmichael, CA, Emma Snow of St. George; brother: Dell Sullivan of Alamo, NV. He has 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Veyo Chapel, 176 East Center, Veyo, UT. A viewing will be held at the Metcalf Mortuary, June 17, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the Veyo Chapel, June 18, 2005 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. Interment will be in the Central Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
