She was born November 6, 1933 to Parley and Edith Anderson in Cedar City, Utah. She married Jay Don Alger on June 20, 1959 in Cedar City. They were later sealed for Time and All Eternity in the St. George LDS Temple. Barbara and Jay Don are the parents of four children. They lived in Cedar City all their lives and loved the community. Barbara was a teacher at South Elementary School for many, many years. She was passionate about the education of children. She took particular interest in her students and never forgot a single one. After her retirement in 1996, she and Jay Don worked at the St. George Temple as ordinance workers. Barbara was always very generous to charities and gave work to people in need of employment. She was a very refined lady in her taste and her manners. She loved beautiful things and made her home comfortable, tidy and beautiful. She loved her roses. She had many friends and was always true to her friendships. Her friends have remained equally true to her. The family extends thanks to those sweet friends and ward members who came to visit her and helped make it possible for her to remain at home until she lost her battle with cancer. Barbara is survived by her children, Don Ray (Jennifer) Alger and Jolynn (Glenn) Carpenter of Cedar City, Mark (Alene) Alger of Orem, and Neil Alger of Salt Lake City; by her grandchildren, Cade, Kyle and Kary Boardman, Levi Carpenter, Caroline and Samuel Alger; and by her sister, Jane Bybee of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her brother, Byron (Jean) Anderson of St. George. She is now reunited with her dear husband, Jay Don Alger, her parents, her brother Herman Anderson and her sister Alice Woodall. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning, June 20th, 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar 9th Ward Chapel, located at 256 S. 900 W.
