GEORGE - Lila Beth Watson Anderson, age 89, died Friday, June 17, 2005, in St. George, from natural causes incident to age. She was born in Smithfield, Utah, on February 17, 1916, the second daughter and fourth child of William R. and Elizabeth Roskelley Watson. She married Grant Sylvester Anderson in the Logan Temple on July 31, 1935, and four children were born to this union. Her homes were, first, in Filer, Idaho, and Smithfield, Utah. She then spent thirty-two years living throughout Southern California (Inglewood, Pico Rivera, Montebello, and Whittier), after which she resided for 27 years in Washington, Utah. Upon the death of her husband, she lived with her daughter, Linda, at Atria Assisted Living, Elderberry Care, and Kolob Care Center, all in St. George. Lila will be remembered for her kindness. She was a loyal friend, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed writing poetry, playing the piano, singing in groups, sewing, and crocheting. She belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong faith in her Savior. She served in many positions in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society, and also three times as a Stake Missionary with her husband. She opened her home several times to young people, or family members, who needed a place to stay. She is survived by her: three children, Valeen (Laurence) Holgate, LaMar (Joanne) Anderson, and Linda (Douglas) Stuart; son-in-law, George (Carol) Skyles; 22 grandchildren; and 52 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Mary Beth Skyles. The family expresses appreciation to all of the care centers and hospice workers who gave their time and thoughtful care to Lila during her suffering. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at the Green Valley 6th Ward Chapel, 124 N. Valley View Dr., St. George, with a viewing from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., prior to services, at the Chapel. Interment will be at the Washington City Cemetery. Originally published June 22, 2005 Helen Patricia 'Pat' Dutton WASHINGTON - Helen Patricia "Pat" Dutton, age 58, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. She was born February 24, 1947, in Pueblo, Colorado, a daughter of Ralph and Helen Leist Worline. She married Daniel Rex Dutton, Jr. on August 30, 1968, in the St. George Temple. Pat was born and raised in Pueblo, where she attended school. She also attended schools in Ohio. She and Dan and their son, David, moved to St. George in 1977. Pat enjoyed being a homemaker. She loved to collect "Happy Meal" toys, and she loved her grandchildren. An active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pat served in many positions. Surviving family include her: husband, Dan, of Washington, UT; son, David (Melissa) Dutton, of Washington, UT; three grandchildren, Kyle, Mikayla, and Mikynzie; sisters, Gwen and Joanna; and brothers, Mike, Dave, and Jim. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Buena Vista 2nd Ward Chapel, 860 N. Originally published June 22, 2005 Miriam 'Lil Grandma' Leven Our Beloved "Lil Grandma" Miriam Leven passed away on June 17th 2005 in St. George Utah. She was 91 years old. Miriam was born in Chicago Illinois on March 17, 1914 to Max and Annie Goodman. Miriam grew up in Chicago and later moved to Florida where she met her husband William Allan Leven of 54 years. Together they raised a daughter Barbara Morris. While married to William, they owned Kennedy Furniture Company, in Miami Florida. They later sold the business and Miriam became an interior designer. Miriam moved to St. George on Valentines Day in the early 90's where she spent the rest of her life surrounding herself by her granddaughter Julie and friends. Miriam was a social butterfly. Everywhere she went people enjoyed her personality. She loved football, (Miami Dolphins) and baseball (Chicago Cubs). She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and traveling. Miriam touched the lives of everyone she met and will be greatly missed. Special thanks to Red Cliffs Care Center and to all those who made her feel at home. Miriam is survived by her daughter Barbara Anne Morris, of Zephyrhills, Fl., Granddaughter, Julie Beck of St. George, Utah, and Grandson Robert Beck, of Snelville, Ga. Originally published June 22, 2005 Alma Dale Monson ST. GEORGE - Alma Dale Monson, age 91, passed away unexpectedly on Father's Day, Sunday, June 19, 2005. He was born November 28, 1913, in Preston, Idaho, the third of 10 children, to Alma Hyrum and Margaret Ena Peterson Monson. Dale married Dayle S. Jensen on August 30, 1939, in the Salt Lake Temple. He attended schools in Preston, Idaho. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Central States from 1936 to 1938. Dale held many positions in the Church, including bishop of the Ogden 61st Ward and Weber Heights Stake High Council. He served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden and St. George Temples. Dale worked at Farmers Grain Cooperative for 42 years, retiring in 1982. After his retirement, he worked as a sales representative for Seedboro Corp. in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to St. George in 1992. His interests included fishing, playing golf, and supporting his sons and grandchildren in their various activities. He was very active right up until his death. Surviving family include his: sons, Buggs (JoAnn) and Terry (Shelley), of St. George, and Bob (Susan), of South Weber; 8 grandchildren, Dan (Sandy) and Chad (Vicki - deceased), of West Jordan, Ryan (Marlene) and Cory, of South Weber, Tyler (Aimee), of Uintah, Matt (Jeny)and Adam, of St. George, McCall (Christian) Morrison, of Laie, HI; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mada Larsen, Dean Edwards, and Connie (Martell) Rawlings, all of Preston, ID, Cleone (Harold) Jones, of Rexburg, ID, and Barbara Rinderknecht, of Providence, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Ena, and siblings, Norma Murray, Louise Hendricks, Rheal, and Garth Monson. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist Mortuary Chapel, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT. Originally published June 22, 2005 Dee E. Porter GLENDALE - Dee E Porter, age 78, passed away June 20, 2005 in St. George, Utah. Dee was born February 8, 1927 in LaVerkin, Utah Nathan Alma Porter and Vida Martina Elder. He married his sweetheart Lorna Anderson on July 12, 1947 in Fredonia, Arizona. Later solemnized in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his wife Lorna A. Porter, daughters; Linda (Hal) Lamb of Somerset, California, Pamela (Mack N.) Roundy of Glendale, Utah, and Vickie (Larry) Stanger of Santa Clara, Utah, son: Bobby (Jill) Porter of Redmond, Utah, 16 grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren, and 1 sister Marie Larsen of Kingston, Utah. Dee was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and 4 brothers; Grandon, Lerin, Ray, and Lyle. Dee served his country in the Armed Forces during World War II. He served in his community in many positions including Mayor of Glendale and was an active leader in his church. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 1:00 PM in the Glendale Ward Chapel, Glendale, Utah. Viewings will be Friday from 7:30-8:30 PM at Mosdell Mortuary, and from 11:45-12:45 at the chapel prior to services. Burial will be in the Glendale City Cemetery. Originally published June 22, 2005 ~ June 19, 2005 Our little buddy Carter David Cowley was born October 26, 2004 in St. George UT to David Thomas and Sameeta Losee Cowley. Carter was called home by his Heavenly Father on June 19, 2005 in Cedar City UT. He was a sweet little guy who brought lots of joy and love in the lives of all who knew him. Carter had many health trials, but never seeded to loose his happy, loving spirit. Carter is survived by parents: David & Sameeta Cowley and his big sister: McKenna. Grandparents: M. Boyd & Deborah Cowley; Mark & Gwen Losee. GreatGrandparents: Dex & Betty Jean Cowley; Donna & the late Ned Nielson; Cecil & Ava Losee; Fred & Elva Skeem. We will forever remember and love Carter and the great blessing he was in our lives. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, 2005 at 11 AM in the Oak City 2nd Ward.
