He was born March 23, 1959 in Boonville, Missouri to Karen Louise Jepsen and LaDell Ken Alvey, the oldest of three children. Michael was independent and always the free spirit, but managed to be sensitive to others' needs. He enjoyed camping, guns, hunting, four-wheeling and cattle ranching. Survivors include parents LaDell and Karen Alvey of Kanab, Utah; siblings Julie and Dr. Gary Sullivan of Statesboro, Georgia and Brent and Linda Alvey of Kanab, Utah; and nieces and nephews Heather, Jennifer, Garryowen, Erin, Conner, Chris, Andrea and Whitney. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005 at 12:00 Noon at the Kanab Utah Stake Center, with visitation from 10:30-11:45 AM at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Kanab Cemetery under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary. Originally published June 24, 2005 Alayna Mattea Beckman ST. GEORGE - Alayna Mattea Beckman, passed away Monday, June 20, 2005, in St. George. She was born on May 16, 2005, in St. George, to Shawn and Amanda Mattea Lee Beckman. Our precious little angel has now spread her wings and gone to the playground in Heaven above to join her brother and Heavenly Father. Her precious personality has touched so many lives in such little time. Her perfect spirit will be missed. She is survived by her: parents, Shawn and Amanda, of LaVerkin, UT; grandparents, David and Carol Lee, Kelly Beckman, and John Kevin and Jackie Hansen; and many other family members and friends. Originally published June 24, 2005 Margaret Alice Redford Mecham TROPIC - Margaret Alice Redford Mecham, 69 of Tropic, Utah, passed away June 19, 2005, at her home in Tropic, Utah, after battling cancer for more than a year. She was born May 26, 1936, in Kaysville, Utah, to John S. and Melva J. Maylin Redford. She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and then from BYU with a B.S. in Home Economics. She was also a member of the White Key Honor Society. She married Lowell J. Mecham on June 26, 1958, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Margaret was a loving, generous person who was always concerned with others and gave freely of herself to many family members, friends, and neighbors. She loved children and enjoyed being a home economics teacher. She liked reading and learning and found joy in music. She was a talented homemaker and shared her talents with everyone. She was a member of the LDS church and served in many teaching, leadership and musical callings in the Tropic Ward and Escalante Stake. Before becoming ill she faithfully worked as the stake extraction coordinator spending many hours doing genealogy work. She was a wonderful sister, wife, mother and a much loved grandmother. She always felt her family was her most treasured possession and felt blessed to love and be loved by them. She will be missed a great deal by many. She is survived by her husband Lowell; sons, Steven L. (Shelli) Mecham, So. Jordan; Scott D. (Jennifer) Mecham, Santa Clara and daughters, Shauna M. (Gerald) Talbot, Tropic; and Sherrie Mecham, Provo; ten grandchildren; and a sister Joan (Robert) Winger, Holladay. Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Malen and Marian Mecham of Tropic. Preceded in death by, parents; mother-in-law, Angelyn Mecham; grandchildren, Tony Talbot and Heather Mecham. Dee was born February 8, 1927 in LaVerkin, Utah Nathan Alma Porter and Vida Martina Elder. He married his sweetheart Lorna Anderson on July 12, 1947 in Fredonia, Arizona. Later solemnized in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his wife Lorna A. Porter, daughters; Linda (Hal) Lamb of Somerset, California, Pamela (Mack N.) Roundy of Glendale, Utah, and Vickie (Larry) Stanger of Santa Clara, Utah, son: Bobby (Jill) Porter of Redmond, Utah, 16 grandchildren, 19 Great grandchildren, and 1 sister Marie Larsen of Kingston, Utah. Dee was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, and 4 brothers; Grandon, Lerin, Ray, and Lyle. Dee served his country in the Armed Forces during World War II. He served in his community in many positions including Mayor of Glendale and was an active leader in his church. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 1:00 PM in the Glendale Ward Chapel, Glendale, Utah. Originally published June 24, 2005 Zelma M. Stead Zelma M. Stead, age 88, passed away June 22, 2005 at home, in St. George. UT. She was born April 3, 1917 in Charleston, West Virginia, to John Alexander Marion and Letha Agnes Fore. She married Harold Stead on April 14, 1948, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, AZ temple. Zelma was raised in Charleston and moved to Phoenix, AZ after her parents relocated there. She finished high school and took business courses after graduation. She and her family were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During her married life she lived in several places, including Los Angeles, CA, Albuquerque, NM, Scottsdale, AZ, Lomita, CA and St. George, UT. Zelma was very creative and loved sewing, arts and crafts, flower arranging and gardening. She was devoted to her family, and loved all her children, grand- and great-grandchildren. Harold and Zelma enjoyed travel, making trips back east, and to Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patrician Ann Stead. She is survived by her husband Harold, children: Hal (Karen) Stead; 3 adopted daughters: Gina (Rod) Bradshaw, Stephanie Stead, and Teri Stead; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Thamor Marion of Sandy, UT., and Waldo (Karen) Marion of Silver Reef, UT. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Bloomington Hills LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 750 E. Ft. Pierce Dr., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, June 24, from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd, and Saturday, June 25, from 12:30-1:40 p.m., prior to services at the chapel.
