He was born May 3, 1923, in Antimony, Utah, to Lyman and Stella Gates King. He married Ellen Valeria Smith in Circleville, Utah, on June 14, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on March 22, 1960. Eugene was a member of the LDS church and held many callings, including bishoprics, high council, scouts, Sunday School presidencies and ward clerk. He also worked as an ordinance worker in the St George LDS Temple for 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Valeria, Antimony; children, Lana (David) Ogden, Richfield; Tom King, Antimony; Bruce (Valene) King, Axtell; Mark (Lisa) King, Monroe; Claudia (Randy) Farmer, Annabella; Julia (Brad) Camp, Orem; Susan (Mike) Peterson, Provo; Polly (Karl) Weenig, Orem; Ron (Lori) King, Central Valley; Heidi (Shawn) Sederholm, Rogers, AK; and foster child, Burton Damon, Ramona, CA; 53 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Bruce) Morgan, Ventura, CA; and Sheren Kimball, Camarillo, CA; brother, Kennneth King, Antimony; and a brothers-in-law, Virgil Anderson, Salina and Burnell Washburn, Joseph. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Ireta Howes King; grandson, Thomas Kade King; brother, Ronald (Sylvia) King; sisters, Della (Murray) Peterson Washburn; Faye (Marius) Nielson; Eva Andersen; Clyda (Dick) Deneke; sister-in-law, Maxine Anderson King; and brother-in-law, Duane Kimball. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Antimony LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Antimony from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Antimony Cemetery with Military Rites by the V.F. Online guestbook at www.maglebymortuary.com Originally published June 27, 2005 Archer Swapp KANAB, Utah - Archer Eugene Spencer "Mama Bear" Swapp, age 87, died Friday, June 24, 2005 in St. George, Utah. He was born April 8, 1918 in Kanab, Utah to Leona Spencer and James Eugene Swapp. He married Genevieve Cram on December 28, 1948 in Fredonia, Arizona, later solemnized in the St. George Temple. He was a World War II Veteran serving time in England as an airplane mechanic, and was scheduled to be transferred to Japan when they heard the war had ended. Archer had a good long life growing up and living in Kanab. He loved the Red Hills and spent many hours on foot and horseback memorizing the country in every direction. He had the pleasure of owning his own ranch, and loved spending time with the horses and cattle. He also worked for and retired from Kaibab Lumber Company as an equipment operator. Archer loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with them hunting, fishing and gathering wood. He raised a good garden each year, as well as fruit and flowers. He was a wonderful grandfather to his own grandchildren, as well as countless others. Archer had five children, Bobby & Charlene Swapp of Kanab, Genevieve Swapp McDonald of Kanab, Cynthia & Brent Burdick of Payson, Utah, Sherron & Douglas Jensen of Wauchula, Florida, and Brenda Lee (deceased) & Jerry Hutchings of Kanab; seventeen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by siblings Theda Flynn of Washington, Glen & Edith Swapp of The Gap, Arizona, and Emma Jean & Leon Mulliner of Kanab/Hatch, Utah. He was preceded in death by daughter Brenda Lee Hutchings, granddaughter Tracy Burdick, grandson Josh Hutchings, and siblings Norman, Ray, ReeAnn, Grant, and Aurelia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Kanab Utah Stake Center. Viewings will be held Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM at Mosdell Mortuary and Teusday morning from 9:45-10:45 AM at the Stake Center.
