Born to Samuel Bell and Sara Olevia Clark Jones on October 19, 1906 in Cedar City, Utah. Ella's mother, Sara Olevia Clark Jones, passed away at the birth of the twin girls Ella and Olevia. Ella was raised and cared for by her Aunt Violet Ann and Conroy (Roy) Wood. She married Joseph Philemon Bettridge on July 26, 1927 and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 3, 1928. Joe and Ella lived many years in Caliente, Nevada where Joe worked for the railroad. In 1946 they moved back to Cedar City and made it their permanent home on 300 west. Ella was restricted to her home most of her adult life due to poor health. She loved to serve her family and adored her five grandchildren, reading to them whenever they were visiting with her. She supported her husband in his numerous church callings. Ella was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Primary and Sunday School Organizations where she enjoyed being with the children. Ella was an avid reader and an excellent speller. She spent many hours playing the piano by ear and listening to classical music. She loved the social life of being with her many friends. Dancing was her favorite thing to do. The beauty and serenity of the outdoors and being in the mountains was very special to her. She spent many summers living at Woods Ranch in Cedar Canyon with her family. Ella is survived by her son Delton (Jean) of St. George, five grandchildren; Delton Kendall (Diane) of New Jersey, Terry Gene of Salt Lake City, Kelly J. of Bountiful, Torrie Curtis (John) of South Jordan, Lynette Muir (Lynn) of South Jordan, ten great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to everyone at Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center in St. George for their TLC and their help in caring for Ella these past two years. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Originally published June 29, 2005 Richard Karl Klein Richard Karl Klein, 70, of Wallsburg, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2005. He was born February 1, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Karl August Klein and Ella Bachmann Klein. He married Gayle Wagstaff on April 25, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children. Jennifer (Robert) Merkley, Deborah (Gregory) Peterson, Leslie Klein, Richard (Jillyn) Klein, Heidi (Jay) Hortin, and Michael (Laura) Klein. They made their home and raised their family in Salt Lake City and Heber City, Utah. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various ward and stake callings within the Church, as well as a faithful home teacher. He served as a full-time missionary in the Swiss-Austrian Mission, and presided over the Germany Hamburg Mission and the Missionary Training Center at Provo, Utah. He served as a Regional Representative in the Utah South Area and as a member of the 5th Quorum of the Seventy as an Area Authority Seventy. He found great happiness and joy in his family, missionary work, and temple service. By profession he was a structural steel engineer/draftsman. He owned and operated the business and enjoyed the work's challenges. He especially enjoyed his association with many employees and colleagues throughout that time. He was preceded in death by his sweet companion and is survived by his six children, 23 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, his brothers, Roy K. Klein and Ron O. (Annette) Klein. Funeral services will be held at the Wallsburg 1st Ward, 494 West Main Canyon Road, Wallsburg, Utah, on Friday, July 1, 2005, at 12:00 noon. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, June 30, 2005, at the Wallsburg 1st Ward and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the ward chapel before services. Originally published June 29, 2005 Clare Andrew Schmutz Clare Andrew Schmutz, 74, born on July 18, 1930, passed away on June 23, 2005. He was born and raised in St. George and has resided in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In 1959, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in Logan. In January 1960, he moved to Las Vegas to begin work at the Clark County Health District as a junior sanitarian. Forty-three years later in February of 2003, he retired as the Director of Environmental Health. Since retiring, he continued his dedication to the field of environmental health by starting his own company, "CAS Consulting". He was a current board member of the Nevada Restaurant Association, a current member of the National Sanitation Foundation Joint Committee for Food Service Equipment, and also a current member of the Underwriters Laboratory Council of Public Health and Environmental consultants. Clare's career contributed to the well being of the community. He was a proud public servant, a great resource and inspiration to all those who worked with him. In his free time Clare enjoyed visiting with friends and family, driving his antique Ford pickup truck, tending to his tomato garden and watching Yankees baseball and UNLV basketball. He loved to make his special tacos and barbecue. He had planned to do a little more fishing. Clare was a great man with a warm heart, friendly personality and a great sense of humor. He is more than loved and will be more than missed. Clare is survived by his wife, Georgia, and son, Billy, both of Las Vegas. He is also survived by his sister Janice (LeRoy) Nisson, his brother Richard (Miriam) Schmutz, both of St. George, and his brother William (Georgia Lou) Schmutz of Kanab, and his sisters-in-law Verna (David) Schmutz and Merlene (Don) Schmutz both of St. George. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilford and Martha Schmutz and his brothers David and Don Schmutz. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., June 30. Both will be at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 N. Las Vegas Blvd. Burial will follow at Bunkers Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Rd.
