GEORGE - Joseph Clift Foster, age 89, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in St. George, Utah, of natural causes. He was born June 27, 1916, to Joseph Downing and Theresa Maria Knell Foster in Cedar City, Iron, Utah. He married his sweetheart, Claudia Pendleton, February 4, 1940, in Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized August 31, 1940, in the St. George Temple, for time and all eternity. Clift was a veteran of WWII, after which he moved his family from Cedar City, Utah, to St. George, Utah. Clift operated his own auto-body and upholstery business until 1957, moving his family of seven to Kearns, Utah. Clift worked at the Tooele Army Depot for 15 years, retiring and moving back to Southern Utah in 1975. Clift and Claudia worked as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple for 10 years. Claudia preceded him in death in1997, after 57 years of marriage. He married Gertrude Dalton on March 26, 1998. He is survived by his: wife, Gertrude; 5 children, Stephen (Gretchen) Foster, of Kingman, Arizona, Judy (Calvin) Wallace, of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Jackie (Tom) Malm, of Bloomington, Utah, Craig (Peggy) Foster, of West Valley, Utah, and Dale (Trudy) Foster, of Santa Clara, Utah; 22 grandchildren; 38 greatgrandchildren; 2 brothers, Howard and Eldred Foster, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and 2 Sisters, Grace Sousa, of Sebastopol, California, and Lillie Williams, of Hurricane, Utah. Clift is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Keith. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah. There will be a viewing that morning from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., prior to services, at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. Hall of Hurricane, Utah passed peacefully on June 29, 2005 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born to Lafe and Bertha (Wood) Hall on October 4, 1917. He married RDell Petersen in September of 1940 in the St. George Temple. He and his sweetheart lived in Cedar City and Hurricane, UT gathering friends everywhere. A faithful member of the LDS Church, he was obedient to many callings including a mission to Texas with his life companion in 1985. Arbon died as he lived, loving and appreciating each family member and friend, teaching love to the last breath. Our Dad's life expressed his capacity to love, his desire to be obedient to the Lord and demonstrated his belief in the value of hard work. His forgiving and accepting heart gave us much to live up to. He loved children, loved to dance and loved to ride horses. It's been a great ride Dad, and thank you for the dance. Dad asked us to express his love and his thanks to all of you. He is survived by his wife, RDell; children, Sherron (Brent) Woolsey of Las Vegas, NV, Winona Chambers of Phoenix AZ, Janet (Steve) Staheli of Enterprise, UT, and Jaki (Joe) Collard of Castle Dale, UT; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles Arbon, daughter Wynauna, brother Keith and great granddaughter Rikki Jai Sanderson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2005, 11 a.m., Hurricane LDS 14th Ward Chapel, 452 N. 2600 W., Hurricane, UT. Originally published June 30, 2005 Dee Hardy Dee Elmo Hardy died June 26, 2005 surrounded by family at Dixie Regional Medical Center of cancer. Dee was born in Spanish Fork, Utah August 2, 1948. Two weeks later, he flew to Honolulu, Hawaii with his mother Agnes Dale Thomas Hardy, father Dr. D. Elmo Hardy, sisters Patricia (age 6), Joan (age 3) and Cheryl (age 1). Dee had great growing up years living in Hawaii. He explored wild inaccessible areas in the islands on insect collection trips with his father and helped preserve the state bird as part of his Eagle Scout award. At age 12, Dee lived in Vienna, Austria and London, England while his dad was on sabbatical from the University. He graduated from the notable Punahou School. Dee served his mission in the Philippines, serving all over the islands since the country had only been open to missionary work for two years. Dee earned a bachelors degree in Anthropology, masters degree in Archaeology and masters degree in Library Science from Brigham Young University and did graduatework in Archaeology at Southern Illinois University. Married Loretta Gene Fink on September 13, 1975 in the Provo LDS Temple. Dee and Loretta have a great family - daughters Alyssa Linn Homan (Fred), Christal Anne Sandstrom (Travis) and son Brent Thomas Hardy who recently returned from the Illinois Chicago South Mission. Dee was especially proud of his little grandson Dallen Eddison Sandstrom. Dee has worked the past 27 years for Utah State Parks and Recreation as an archaeologist and museum curator. He first worked at Anasazi State Park in Boulder and then worked at Fremont Indian State Park in Sevier. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington 11th Ward LDS Chapel, 650 W Telegraph St, Washington, Utah. Visitations will be held on Thursday, June 30, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Heideman Mortuary, 170 S. Mall Dr., and on Friday, July 1, at 10:0011:00 at the 11th ward Chapel. Interment held at the Washington City Cemetery. Originally published June 30, 2005 Winnie G. Carter ST. GEORGE - Winnie Gray Carter, 73, died in St. George, Utah, on June 28, 2005. She was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Kannopolis, N.C. She is survived by her daughter: Lisa (Michael) Franken of St. George, Utah; son: David Carter of Soorpark, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
