She married Henry Leon Embley on August 14, 1936 in Nephi, Utah. He preceded her in death February 14, 1981. Bennie was raised in Gunnison and spent most of her adult life there. She was active in her community, serving in the JC's, Gunnison Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Democratic Party, Lady Lions, Ladies of Elks and local PTA organizations. In the early days of Gunnison Fire Department, several "fire phones" were located in family homes. When a fire call came in Bennie would call all the volunteer firemen to respond. She supported her husband in his many civic callings and never complained of the added responsibilities those commitments placed on her. She and Hank owned and operated Valley Furniture until 1968 when they sold the business and moved to St. George. While in St. George, Hank and Bennie opened Embley's Draperies with Bennie running the business until moving to Clearfield. Bennie loved to golf and participate in other outdoor events. She was also an accomplished pistol marksman. She is survived by her children, John (Patricia) Embley of Pleasant Grove, Michael (Phyllis) Embley of Salt Lake City, Kathy (Terry) Jensen of Polson, MT, Reed (Doris) Embley of Layton; 19 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was extremely proud of her children and always loved to be around them. When she was with her children, she would often just sit and listen as she enjoyed the interaction of her family so much. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at 12:00 Noon in the Gunnison LDS Stake Center, where friends may call on Tuesday after 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Gunnison City Cemetery. GEORGE, UT - Donna Brucine Mackie Hiatt, 76, died April 28, 2005 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 20, 1928 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Bruce and Tressa Acklin Mackie. She married Melvin P. Hiatt on August 11, 1946 in Caliente, Nevada. Donna was raised in Caliente, Nevada. She attended Caliente Elementary School and Lincoln County High School. She met Melvin in Pioche, Nevada at the Labor Day Dance in 1944 and they married two years later. From there they lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, Enterprise and Brigham City, Utah, Henderson, Nevada and finally retired back in Enterprise in 1985. Donna's first and foremost enjoyment was her family; husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent many happy hours with them in the outdoors fishing, camping and deer hunting. Many hours were spent making hand stitched quilts without quilting frames for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In levi quilts alone, she made 28 and too many baby and bed quilts to count. On every quilt she would hand stitch the recipients name and the date. For her this was a labor of love that she fully enjoyed. Another one of Donna's great joys was her yard and garden. It was a guarantee that you didn't want to be a weed in her lawn or flower beds, because their life expectancy was short ... really short! It is our feeling that what the Enterprise residents will miss the most about Donna is her sweet face on her daily walks. She walked two miles, three times a day, even her grandkids couldn't keep up with her! Donna and Melvin had 59 wonderful years of marriage together and she will be truly missed. Donna is survived by her husband, Melvin; daughter, Linda Stout; sons, Lee (Kathy) Hiatt and Tom (Carma) Hiatt; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, George, Alex and Bob Mackie; and sister, Harriette Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Jack; grandson Cory Hiatt; and great-great grandson Kameron Dane O'Brien. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2005, 11 a.m., Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitation will be held Tuesday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Enterprise, Utah Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
