Originally published May 6, 2005 Robert Lee Thompson HURRICANE - Robert Lee Thompson of Hurricane, Utah returned to his Father in Heaven on May 3, 2005 at the age of 68. He was born on March 21, 1937 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He spent his childhood in Dudly, NC. He served our country honorably in the Air Force for 8 years. He married his sweetheart, Barbara, on April 2, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada and together they share 8 great kids from their previous marriages. Tommy (as he is affectionately called by family and friends) was blessed to have 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild that were absolutely the center of his world. He worked for James Hardy Gypsum plant in Las Vegas for 28 years before retiring and moving to Hurricane. Most men when they retire see a future of rest and relaxation (and we all know that Tommy loved a great fishing trip with the guys) but Tommy sought out every opportunity to serve the Lord and his fellow man right up until the very end. He served a mission at the LDS Bishop's storehouse and Cannery, worked in the extraction program and was a diligent home teacher. One year and three months ago, Our beloved dad and grandpa was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. He struggled through the illness with dignity, courage, and faith that the Lord had a plan for him. And through the ups and downs of treatment, his attitude was always upbeat and positive. This year that we have had with him has taught us all that miracles do happen. He left this Earth surrounded by family and friends and we look forward to the day that we reunite with this great man. Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children Jeanette (Frank) Maltese of Las Vegas, NV; Kim (Terry) Coulston of Las Vegas, Nv; Robin (Mike) Hall of Las Vegas, NV; Tammy (Dave) White of Las Vegas, NV; Donnie (Linda) Newport of Logandale, NV; John (Cheri) Newport of Hurricane, UT and Nikki Thompson of Las Vegas, NV'; 17 Grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; Sister Annie Ruth Bailey of North Carolina; Brother John Thompson of Pennsylvania and Brother Claude Thompson of Virginia.
