He was brought to Hurricane on April 25, 2005 from his home in Emmett, Idaho after suddenly becoming ill. He was moved to Hurricane to be closer to family. He was born December 2, 1931 in Kanab, Utah to George S. and Florence Mortenson Nelson. He married Dolores Marie Cummings in 1981. They had several happy years together until she died of cancer. Because of his father's work as a logger and sawmill operator, George developed a love of the outdoors he never lost. He worked for several years operating a logging truck for Whiting Brothers. He moved with his family in 1938 to St. George until his enlistment in the US Air Force in 1951. George is survived by his mother Florence of Hurricane; two brothers Hyrum Nelson of Alaska and Rodney (Lois) Nelson of Hurricane; and sister Mary Elveen (Howard) Gallamore of Kanab, UT/Hillsboro, OR. He was preceded in death by his wife, father, and one infant sister. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 1:00 PM at Mosdell Mortuary in Kanab. Burial will follow in the Kanab Cemetery. Originally published May 16, 2005
