Marsh ST. GEORGE, UT- Steven L. Marsh age 57, fought a courageous fight before returning home to our Heavenly Father on May 19th, 2005 in St. George, UT. Steve was born in Brigham City, Utah to Lois "Tebe" and Joyce Poulsen Marsh, on Feb. 23, 1948. Paths crossed with the love of his life in 1976 when he stopped to assist her with car repairs. Lauri Helms Barrow and Steven L. Marsh were married on November 12, 1978. Steve grew up in Ogden, attended Bonneville High, he enlisted in the Army where hereceived his GED, and other numerous certifications in small engine repairs. He served in Vietnam from 1965-1968. He was discharged in 1971. He worked in his families business in construction for 10 years. He always said he enjoyed playing in sand pile 1 and 2. Over the next 40 years worked at various excavating and truck driving companies. He was last employed with Quality Excavation in St. George, Utah, his love was the backhoe. He was this generation's "Grizzly Adams." Besides the love and dedication to his family, fishing was his greatest stress reliever, then hunting and camping. His love of the outdoors has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. His greatest accomplishment in life was to raise his family and love his grandchildren with all his heart. His family came first. He will be missed so, so much. He is survived by his wife Lauri of St. George, UT., three children from a previous marriage: Lori (Evan) Hill of Stansbury, UT., Shane (Jeannie) Marsh, Brady (Heather) March, and nine grandchildren. Raenee (Rod) Schurtz of Hurricane, UT., Justin (Brandy) Marsh of Redmond, UT., Heather (Cody) Nielson of St. George, UT., Cody Marsh of St. George, UT., and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Michael Marsh, Marsha Warner, Kenny Marsh, Barbara Rael, Pattie Christensen, and Kathi Streeval. He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and mother-in-law. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Snow Canyon LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 1220 N. 1400 W. A visitation will be held Monday, May 23, from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd, and Tuesday, May 24, from 9:30-10:40 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Miller GARDEN CITY, UTAH, - Rachel Beatrice Weeks Miller, 76, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, was called home to her loving Heavenly Father on Friday, May 20, 2005, at her home in Garden City, Utah. She was born June 26, 1928, in Ririe, Idaho to Abram and Edna Staten Weeks. She was the ninth of thirteen children. She grew up in Swan Valley, Idaho. Rachel married Cleo Freeman on Jan. 22, 1947, and they were later divorced. She met the love of her life, Donald G. Miller, and they were married on May 11, 1974. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 18, 1977. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President three different times and served for many years in the Young Women's organization. She and her husband, Don, served four missions for the church. Rachel was the Epson Sigma Alpha Woman of the Year in the state of Idaho in 1963. Rachel is survived by her husband Don of Garden City, Ut., a daughter-in-law, Camille Freeman of Eagle, Idaho, five children, Carolyn (Roger) McCord of Idaho Falls, Tony (Pennie) Freeman of Idaho Falls, Gary (Susan) Freeman of Pocatello, Sheila Miller of Las Vegas, Nev., Gordon J. Miller of Henderson, Nev., 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy (Pat) Patterson of Mesa, Ariz., Ruby (Larry) Brown of Idaho Falls, and one brother, Larry (Nancy) Weeks of Rexburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Karry Freeman, nine brothers and sisters and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Idaho Falls South Stake Center, 2051 South Emerson Ave., with the 8th Ward officiating. Friends may visit with family at the Bear Lake Ward in Garden City, Utah on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, on Wednesday evening at Wood Funeral Home (downtown location) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and at the church on Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM. The interment will follow the service at the Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls. The family suggests that donations be made to The Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation in Rachel's name. Originally published May 22, 2005 Janis Jones Burgess Payne HURRICANE, UT - Janis Jones Burgess Payne died May 20, 2005 in Hurricane. She was born March 9, 1939 in Garfield, Utah to Donald Jones and Ione May Moss. She married Jack Burgess in 1954 and later divorced. She married Gerald Payne on Sept. 7th 1963. Janis worked 17 Years at the Nevada Club in Reno. Then worked in Nursing homes in both St. George & Hurricane. She enjoyed gardening, the Southern Utah Mountains, and sharing her crocheting, needlepoint and handiwork with family and friends. Janis is survived by her daughter Kristine Goodro of Springdale , Ut. Four brothers William Holsten (Alice)of Murray, Ut., John Clarke McFarlane (Betty) of Yucca Valley, Ca., Randy Holsten (Debi) of Heber, Ut., Danny Holsten of Salt Lake, one sister, Lou Ann Holsten of Salt Lake, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, her daughter Kimberly Reed, and her brother Gary Holsten. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 2:30 p.m., in the LaVerkin City Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, May 24, from 1-2 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., prior to the graveside at the cemetery. Originally published May 22, 2005 Armand Santangelo ST. GEORGE - Armand Santangelo, age 84, died May 18, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born July 6, 1920, in San Valentino, Italy to Antonio Santangelo and Carmella Rulli Santangelo, and was raised there until 1927, when he and his parents migrated to the United States. Armand married Geraldine Dassi in Morristown, NJ., on March 7, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific, in a headquarter company that was stationed on Tinian in the Marianas Islands. Part of his duties there were having the Island ready for the Air Corps division that was to drop the Atomic Bomb. The plane that carried the bomb was the "Enola-Gay"- named for the pilot's mother. The group of men who landed on the island, boasting that they were going to end the war because of this bomb, gained nothing but contempt and ridicule until the bomb was dropped, then it became history. After the war he worked as manager of Ludlow Refrigeration Co., where he supervised fourteen servicemen. He also managed the purchasing of commercial and household refrigeration and appliances. When Don Ludlow, who owned the company, retired Armand decided that he was too young to retire. He found employment with Allied Company and become supervisor of the mail rooms, with thirty eight employees under his supervision. He often said, "I'm running a Post Office." He was an avid bowler and throughout his life participated in many leagues, winning many trophies. When he retired from bowling, he donated all his trophies to a Junior Bowling League to be awarded to the up and coming champions. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of St. George, his son: Raymond (Mary) of St. George, and grandsons: James (Laverne), and Adam of Michigan and great grandsons: James and Cameron. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at 9:30 a.m., in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. Thompson, age 85, died May 20, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born in New York City, New York, in 1919, to Charles and Elizabeth Thompson. Raymond was raised in Manhattan with his sister Mary and brother Peter. Loving husband of Kathleen Mannion. They had three children: Eddie, Roddy, and Laura. He worked 15 hour days and retired as head of Security for Western Union. He lived and made friends in Fishkill, New York and Springdale, Utah. Ray was kind, humorous, and a good friend to all and was one who always liked to help others. He loved to exercise, and acquaintances had fond memories of him walking through town. He is survived by his son: Eddie, daughter: Laura Olais, son-in-law: Aniceto Olais, granddaughter: Eliana and grandson: Kelek. His extended family will miss him greatly.
