GEORGE - Robert Thomas Butka passed away May 27, 2005 at Dixie Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 3, 1933 in Nanticoke, PA to Lottie Boberick and William Butka. He graduated Nanticoke High School in 1951 then served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. After serving in the Air Force, Robert graduated from Wilkes College in 1958. Bob worked as a Quality Control Engineer for General Electric's Aerospace Division in Hightstown, NJ. He was involved in the community, being a part of Dixie Newcomers and the Elks Lodge. Bob loved bowling and had a sense of humor that will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Norman, William, Daniel, and his sisters: Helen Warakomski, Mildred Novachek. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Bobbi), his sister, Pearl Sosinski (Nanticoke, PA), Stepchildren, Richard Dyer (Ivins, Utah), Christine Glidewell (Ranson, WV). Grandchildren, Ray Glidewell (Memphis, TN), Melissa Dyer (Ivins, Utah), A Memorial service will take place on Wednesday June 1, 2005, at New Promise Lutheran Church, 929 W. Sunset Blvd, at 11:00. Under the Direction of Heideman Mortuary. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that all donations be made to the Building Fund for the New Promise Lutheran Church. Originally published May 31, 2005 James Learned Cottrell Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, James Learned Cottrell, 88, died May 27th, 2005 from natural causes incident to age. Jim was born October 25, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leonard A. and Lou Ericson Cottrell. He married Julia E. Childs Cottrell on September 14, 1940. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S.Temple in December, 1955. They are the parents of three children. Jim was raised in Salt Lake City and as a youth spent many summers in Mill Valley, California with extended family. He graduated from East High School and attended Henegar-Stevens Business College. Jim was an inventor and problem solver and loved building. He loved to learn how things work and he loved studying history. His children and grandchildren have enjoyed many stories of his adventures and experiences throughout his life. He worked for thirty years at the Chevron Refinery in Bountiful, Utah and after retirement he worked for the First Security Bank Computer Center. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julia E.Childs Cottrell of St. George, Utah; his children, Bonnie Jean Walker of Provo, Utah; Judith Ann Guyre of Sandy, Utah; James Lynn Cottrell of Easley, South Carolina; 13 of 14 grandchildren, and 27 of 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at the St. James Ward, on 1095 East St. James Lane, St. George. Friends may call at 11:00 at the St. James Ward Meetinghouse on May 31 prior to services which begin at noon. Interment at Tonaquint Cemetary, St. George, Utah. Originally published May 31, 2005 Charles Gordon Moore Charles Gordon Moore, 61 died May 27, 2005 at his home of natural causes. Born Jan 9, l944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gordon Abraham and Leatha Tutty Moore. Married Elaine Burrows July l6, l963 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They lived in Salt Lake until l996 and moved to St. George, Utah. He worked 30 years for Smiths Food and Drug, He was a very family oriented person, everything he did was for his family. He loved his three boys and while they were growing up he had a saying "We're the four Moore's and when one is in trouble there is three Moore to back him up". He raised his kids well and taught all of them how to hunt, fish but most of all how to be a good husband and father and to put their family first. His favorite thing to do was spending time with his grandkids and family. Surv. by his wife Elaine, Sons Lynn and Cheryln, Eddie and Collette, and Doug and Teresa Moore. 10 grandchildren, Brother Melvin and Sister Jackie Linton. Preceded in death by two sisters, Norma Moore, and Virginia Neuman. Interment Valley View Memorial Park. Originally published May 31, 2005 Firle JM Wilkins ST. GEORGE, UT - Firle JM Wilkins, 86, died May 26, 2005 after a brief illness. He was born September 12, 1918 in Rupert, ID to James L. Wilkins and Olive Eliza McFate. He married Mabel Arabel Colebank on February 24, 1938 and later they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. He was a WWII veteran. They raised two beautiful daughters, Arlene and Sandra. His beloved wife Mabel preceded him in death in 1975. Firle was born the youngest of six children to a very loving family. Financial difficulty during the depression caused his family to move to CA to start over when he was a small child. They lived in a tent in L.A. Firle stood on a street corner to sell newspapers when he was six years old to help the family. This earnest quality of being helpful to others always stayed with him. He was a hard worker. He spent 70 years living in Southern CA and was a life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a pioneer in the heavy duty trucking industry with the founding of Per-Lux Fog Lights. As the National Sales Manager of Per-Lux, he and Mabel spent two years traveling the USA in their RV building the business. In 1975 he married the second love of his life, M. LaVean Peterson. Together they fulfilled a mission in New Zealand. They moved to St. George in 1991. Their children brought so much joy to them. They made many trips around the US visiting family and friends. He was very active in gardening and they enjoyed ballroom dancing. He loved his membership and participation in The Sons of Utah Pioneers. To the very end he enjoyed his travels having been to many countries in the world. He loved life and 'today is the best day I ever lived' was his motto. He never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. He is survived by his wife, M. LaVean Wilkins, children Arlene Wilkins Lassig (Klaus) of Bountiful, Sandra Wilkins Ross (Walter) of Provo, Charlene Peterson Simcox (John) of Fraser, CO, Vickie Peterson Reeves (David) of Provo, Jon Peterson of Walnut Creek, CA, and Michael Peterson (Patti) of LaVerne, CA. He was "grandpa the great" to 30 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren, and counting. He will be dearly missed! Originally published May 31, 2005 Mikal Lance Workman LEEDS, UT - Mikal Lance Workman, 12, passed away May 27, 2005 in Leeds, Utah. He was born November 27, 1992 in West Valley City, Utah to Roy Workman and Lawana Rich Workman. Mikal loved people and had lots of friends. He loved riding 4-wheelers, fishing, camping, skateboarding and roller skating with his dad, sports, Karate, soccer, basketball and baseball. He found enjoyment in telling stories and jokes, music, and playing the drums Mikal was talented with his hands and enjoyed drawing. He was known for being very loving and always helping others. His family, friends and dog were dear to him. He was a precious gift to his parents and all who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his parents, Roy Workman and Lawana Workman and Amber Workman; grandmother, Fern Camp; Clarine Cook, grandmother; Bill Workman, grandfather; Russ Rich, grandfather; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Clayton Rich and Ron Workman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 11 a.m., Leeds LDS Chapel, Leeds, Utah.
