He was born on June 8, 1919 in Beaver, Utah to Ira & Edith Briggs Baldwin. He married Mary Jane Morris April 20, 1946 in Beaver, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the St George LDS Temple July 6 1963. "Ike" graduated from Beaver High School. He served for 4 years on the Beaver City Council and as head of Beaver Wild Life Club for years. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving as the ward finance clerk for 8 years. He was a hard worker, a friend to everyone, a great sportsman and willing to help anyone. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Mary Jane of Beaver; three children, Mary Margaret (Alan R,) Kallas of Beaver, Ray Allen (LaReesa) Baldwin of Orem and Carolyn (David) White of Beaver. He has 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He has one sister, Irene (Bill) Cox of Beaver. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Aubra, John Boyd, Gordon & Elmer Baldwin and one sister Elizabeth Dean. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Beaver LDS 4th Ward Chapel. Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday evening at the Southern Utah Mortuary from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and at the church on Saturday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM. Originally published November 10, 2005 Joseph Isaac Chavez ST. GEORGE - Joseph I. Chavez, age 80, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005. He was born July 1, 1925, in Avon, CO, to Abel and Ester Chavez. Joseph grew up in Grand Junction, CO, where he attended school until the 9th grade and then he joined the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1940. He married Cecelia Garcia July 21st, 1945 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction, CO. He moved to Salt Lake City, UT, and worked for Kennecott Copper Corporation and retired after 36 years. He was active in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church for 36 years. He moved to St. George in 1996 after retiring. Joseph belonged to the St. George Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus for many years. He did volunteer work for the Senior Citizen Center, the church and many other places where he was needed. Volunteer work was Joseph's hobby. He had a big heart and great love for his family, a good sense of humor and was always happy go lucky. Everyone was his friend. He is survived by his wife Cecelia, his sons; Joseph Vernon of Las Vegas, NV, Mark Edward of St. George, Dennis John of Las Vegas, NV, sisters; Lisa Woodahl of Fruita, CO, Loretta (Al) Bufano of Salt Lake City, UT, five grandchildren; Michael, Stefan, Matthew, Damian and Jessica Chavez, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Abel and Ester, brother Lolo Lee Chavez, sisters Susie Otero, Irene Humphry and infant son Stephen Chavez. A special heart felt thanks to Dixie Regional Medical Center, Dr. McCune, Dr. Te and Staff. The Infusion Center and staff, for all the great and loving care of Joseph. Born on January 14, 1942 and a native of Cedar City, Allen had lived in California for over 30 years. He graduated from Cedar High and attended Southern Utah University. Allen was a retired General Contractor who pursued many business interests. His love and devotion to his favorite pastime of golf was surpassed only by his love for his grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Anthony Froyd of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; his daughters, Birgitta Papeman of Elk Grove, Calif. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Monday, October 24, 2005. Originally published November 10, 2005 Norma Dalton Hammell PAROWAN - Our loving mother, grandmother, and sister, Norma Dalton Hammell, age 94, returned home to her Heavenly Father on November 8, 2005, after a short illness. She was born on May 8, 1911 in Parowan, Utah to John Stevens Dalton Sr. & Moneta Benson. She married James McConnell Hammell on May 23, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2001. Norma grew up in Parowan, attended Parowan school and graduating from Parowan High School during the depression, resulting in many hard times. After marrying Jim, they lived in California. They lived in Death Valley while her husband mined for gold during a two year period, and then moved to North Hollywood where Jim went into the plumbing trade. They had two children at this time; Jackie and Bill and later moved to San Fernando Valley in a new home that they built with a beautiful yard with many fruit trees. They later moved to Parowan in 1954. She always loved all her grandchildren, tending them often, and was such a sweet grandmother. Norma stayed really close to her sisters and brother through out the years. She loved to dance, fish, and going to the mountains with her brother and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Jackie (Bob) Evans of Parowan, Utah, son Bill Hammell of Parowan, Utah, brother John "Jack" (Leona) Dalton Jr. of Parowan, Utah, sisters Emily Wood, Shirley Mercer, both of Parowan, and Dorothy "Dot" (Hardison) Adams of Salt Lake City, Utah, 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Clayton, Stanley, and Dee Dalton, and sisters Enid and June Dalton. The family would like to send a special thanks to her sisters Emily and Shirley for all they have done and to the Nurses at the Hospital, Kolob Care, and Southern Utah Hospice. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Online condolences may be sent through our website at www.sumfamily.com Originally published November 10, 2005 Alice Jensen Alice Jensen (Sophia Cox) age 88, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born on August 2, 1917, premature, and weighed 2 lb and 3/4 ounces in Raymond, Alberta, Canada to William Snow Cox and Sophia Martha Maudsley. Her mother passed away the day she was born. Her father, William, died the following year during the flu epidemic of 1918. Alice was raised by Orin and Vilo Snow, her great aunt and uncle. Although Alice was born Sophia Cox, the couple who raised her called her Alice Snow. Alice attended LDS business college in Salt Lake City before serving a mission to the Texas Louisiana Mission in 1938. It was here that she met Glenn H. Jensen. After their missions, they were married in the Cardston, Alberta Temple on September 25, 1940. After their marriage they moved to Logandale, Nevada. The following year Glenn enlisted in the Navy following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He returned in the fall of 1945, lived in Las Vegas until they bought the John Lewis farm in Logandale, on the west side of Lyman Road, opposite the Logandale Cemetery. Alice served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Relief Society President, and Stake Young Women's President, and she served two years at the Moapa Indian Branch. She and her husband also served as temple workers in both the St. George and Las Vegas temples, a full time mission to Nauvoo, Illinois, and two stake missions with her husband. Alice graduated from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. During her life she has lived in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, Las Vegas, Nevada, Lebanon, Oregon, and Logandale, Nevada. She was employed by Overton Power for eight years from 1964 to 1972. Alice bore five children, Don (stillborn), Sharon (Jerry) Haworth of Logandale, Rex (Pamela) of Logandale, Beth (Zay) Martinsen of Queen Creek, AZ, and David (Connie) of Eagle Mountain, UT; nineteen grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, a stillborn son, Don, her parents, her brothers: LeGrande, LeMond, Rex Dale and Darrell, and two sisters, Mary Fae and Julia Relief. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 1 pm at the Logandale Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A Friday viewing will be held from 2-4 pm at the Moapa Valley Mortuary. The Saturday viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Logandale Cemetery. God gives them to us for just a little while and then gathers them away. The angels gathered our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend away on November 7, 2005. Blake loved life and lived to travel and explore mountains, canyons, ancient ruins, books, Red Rock Country and sandy beaches. Blake attended school in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He attended and graduated from the Police Academy in 1993. Blake was employed in managerial positions in the audio and automotive field during his working years. He was living in Bloomington, Utah, and employed by Steven Wade Auto in Saint George, Utah at the time of his death. Blake is survived by his wife Teri; beloved daughters, Mattie Larsen of Saint George, Ut.; and Mrs. Adam Snider (Jennifer) of Heber, Ut.; stepchildren, Brian, Jennifer, Suzanne and Carly Anderson; grandson Kolby; mother, Carolyn Schmidt of Salt Lake City, Ut.; sisters, Mrs. David Peay (Tammy) of Spanish Fork, Ut.; Mrs. Victor Dellagnola (Stacy) of Salt Lake City, Ut.; Sid Larsen, mother of Mattie, Saint George, Ut.; nephews, Jared Peay, wife Alicia, their daughter: Haylie, Kyle Peay and Wyatt Peay. Voth Liebelt, age 94, passed away Monday, October 31, 2005, at Our Home Assisted Living in Hurricane, Utah. She was born August 28, 1911, in Woodworth, North Dakota, a daughter of William and Rosa Schmidt Voth. She married Arthur Herman Liebelt on June 2, 1939, in Woodworth. Adeline graduated from Union College in 1937 with a degree in Business Administration, and she taught elementary and secondary education until she retired in 1962. Arthur's life's work was for the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Together, he and Adeline pastored congregations in North Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, and Utah. They settled in La Verkin in 1979. Surviving family include her: daughter, Lyndell Liebelt, of Spokane, WA; two sons, Lyndon Liebelt, of Albuquerque, NM, and Lynn Liebelt, of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Stolz, of New Home, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, who passed away August 24, 2001. Originally published November 10, 2005 Eric Graydon Wood CEDAR CITY - Eric Graydon Wood was born October 5, 1947, in Cedar City, Utah, the first child of seven children, to Gordon B. and Donna Alger Wood. He passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005, in Cedar City, Utah, from complications of pneumonia. He married Michaela Hamilton in Hurricane, Utah, in 1981. To this union was born one daughter, Brandi Ann. They later divorced. Graydon was a happy, good natured child, a delight to his parents. He attended school in Cedar City, Big Creek, and Yucaipa, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He graduated from Las Vegas High School. He worked in construction as a carpenter, truck driver, and maintenance worker for Virgin City and at Brian Head. He was always willing to assist people with any mechanical or handy work. He loved to garden and work with plants. He loved all kinds of music. He had a great artistic ability with art and poetry. Graydon had an incredible memory, enabling him to recall many events and as well as the many things he had learned throughout his life. He had a big heart and a great love for his family and especially his daughter. Graydon will be dearly missed by his: daughter, Brandi Ann, of Alta Dena, CA; father, Gordon (Shirley), of Hurricane, UT; siblings, Russell (Brenda), of Las Vegas, NV, Deeona (Ken) Cox, of La Verkin, UT, Scott (Marla), of Sandy, UT, and Tonya (Curt) Sweeten, of Kamas, UT; and many nieces and nephews for whom he cared very much.
