He has loved us, encouraged us and lightened our load. We will miss him desperately. Karl Orton Mitchell passed away in Salt Lake City, November 27, 2005 at the home of his son and daughter in the midst of his children and grandchildren who all had the opportunity to bid him farewell. He was born in Parowan, Utah on April 2, 1908 to William Cooke Mitchell III and Laurette Orton Mitchell as the youngest of twelve children. He married his life-long sweetheart, Alice Clark, on April 10, 1928 in the Salt Lake Temple and they had 72 years of loving companionship. We know there has been a wonderful reunion with his family and loved ones waiting for him to leave us here. His life has been one of devoted service to his family, to his church, his fellow man and to his Heavenly Father. He and Alice served two missions - one in the Manitoba, Winnipeg area and a two-year mission in the St. George Temple. He served as Bishop of the Parowan Third Ward, a gospel doctrine teacher and Priesthood Quorum teacher, and in the High Council of Parowan Stake. His favorite service in the church was that of Home Teacher; he loved people and was absolutely faithful in visiting his friends as part of his church commitments. His powerful testimony of the restored gospel has been a strengthening, guiding beacon for his friends and family. As an enthusiastic entertainer, he has delighted us all with his singing, guitar-playing, poetry and readings. A great storyteller and mimic, he helped us remember the wonderful people and events of a Parowan gone-by. We're grateful to him for his binding, loving influence in our family and community. He is survived by his son Clark (Mary) Mitchell, his daughter Kathleen (Douglas) Abrams, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 2, 2005 in the Parowan Third and Fourth Ward Chapel at 12:00 noon. Viewing at the same location from 10:30 to time of service. Interment will be in the Parowan Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences may be sent through our website at www.sumfamily.com.
