Pritchard PAROWAN - Sam Pynor Pritchard, 88 passed away October 28, 2005 at the care center in Beaver, Utah. He was born November 28, 1916 to Sidney and Nellie Dover Pritchard in Parowan Utah. He spent his early years on the family farm and came to town in the winters. He graduated from Parowan High and went on to college. He attended the University, now known as SUU, for two years. He was drafted into the army where he saw action in both Japan and the Phillippine Islands. He married Doris Sharples on April 25, 1942 in Las Vegas Nevada. After the war they moved back to Parowan. He took over the farm and continued to manage it for many years. He went on to own and operate several of his own service stations. He was well known for his love of thoroughbred horses and raced many of them through out the western states. Over the course of his racing career he won many trophies of which he was very proud of. He definitely was a avid Jazz fan, spending many hours in front of the TV watching their games. He served in the American Legion for a great number of years, many of them as the commander. He is survived by his wife Doris of 62 years, three children Patricia (Mateo) Perez Henderson, NV. Judy Lister Parowan, Utah, Mike (Lauri) Pritchard Parowan, Utah and special friend Douglas Lister. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren with one more on the way, and one great-great grandchild. He was proceeded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, his daughter Susanne, and two great-great grandsons. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 1, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. 1st and 2nd ward chapel. Viewings will be held on Monday evening October 31, 2005 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday morning November 1, 2005 at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. both will be held at the Parowan Southern Utah Mortuary. Originally published October 30, 2005 Thomas Rayner ST. GEORGE -Thomas Rayner, 73, died October 23, 2005 after a long illness in his adopted home of St. George, Utah. He was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England to Thomas and Clara Carbutt Rayner. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret; daughter, Mikki; son Paul (Tanja); grandchildren, Sharelle and Thomas; along with three sisters; and two brothers, who reside in England. The family send their warmest thanks to all the hospital staff who aided in his care over the past few months. The funeral was held Friday, October 28, 2005, 12 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary in St. George, Utah. Originally published October 30, 2005 Ruth Musser Scott Workman Ruth Musser Scott Workman, granddaughter of Utah pioneer Amos Milton Musser, was born December 14, 1914, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Mary Eliza Lance and Barr White Musser. She died on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at home in Taylorsville, Utah. Ruth was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she served five missions for the Church during her life. Her first mission was to California when Heber J. Grant was President of the Church. On one occasion she accompanied President Grant on the piano while he sang. After her mission she married Austin Scott, on August 18, 1937. Together they had fourteen children. They were divorced in 1973. From 1976 to 1977, she served a mission in North Carolina. She met Kendrick Workman in 1983, and they were married on April 6th of that year. In May they received a mission call to serve in Barcelona, Spain. They later served a mission in Ohio. Ruth and Kendrick enjoyed wonderful years together until his death on August 12, 1992. After he died, Ruth served a mission in McAllen, Texas. She later served as a stake missionary in St. George. In addition to missionary work, she loved to be in the temple. She served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake, Manti, and St. George temples for many years. Ruth was preceded in death by her older sister, Mary Musser Sharp, and her younger brother, Barr Lance Musser. Ruth is survived by many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 1, from 10:00 to 11:30, at the Taylorsville Utah Stake Center at 4845 S. Woodhaven Dr. (1335 W.) in Taylorsville, Utah.
