GEORGE - Bernice Tyler Jamison, age 89, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in St. George, Utah, after many years of ill health. She was born on August 14, 1916, in Bisbee, Arizona, to James Rue and Leona Douglass Tyler, the first of four children. She lived in Arizona for the first six years of her life before moving with her family to southern California. In 1928 her father organized a banjo band called Rue Tyler's Rhythm Kids. For the next seven years Bernice played, accompanied, and helped rehearse the band, which performed at church socials, clubs, on the radio, at restaurants and at the 1932 World's Fair. Bernice graduated from UCLA in 1938, with a degree in music. Serving in the LDS Church as a stake, district and regional music director for forty years, Bernice prepared choirs for stake, MIA and area conferences, music festivals, road shows, and musicals. She taught music at Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles for eighteen years and, in addition to her musical accomplishments, she brought several students into the church by her good example. Bernice married Horace William Jamison on August 27, 1938, in Mar Vista, California, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple August 11, 1939. She was devoted to her husband and family and loved to serve them and tell humorous stories about them. Surviving family include her: three children, Lowell Tyler Jamison, of Glendale, CA, Janelle Leona Jamison Jarvis, of Provo, UT, and Kent Douglass Jamison, of St. George; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Rue Tyler, Jr., of Cedar City, UT; and two sisters, Eileen Tyler Dowling, of Provo, UT, and Donna Tyler Harris, of Granbury, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bloomington 6th Ward Chapel, 3519 Manzanita Rd., St. George, UT. The family will gather for a family prayer in the Relief Society room at 12:30 p.m., prior to services. Interment will follow the services at the Tonaquint Cemetery. Originally published September 1, 2005 Thomas Glen Nixon IVINS - Thomas Glen Nixon, age 20, passed away Monday, August 29, 2005, at his home in Ivins, Utah, surrounded by family. He was born June 14, 1985, in St. George, Utah, a son of Michael Roy and Jan Gubler Nixon. Thomas and Brittney Ann Hansen were married December 26, 2003, in Washington, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. Thomas was born, raised and educated in St. George, where he attended Snow Canyon High School. He was an excellent drummer and had his own band, called "Anti-Conformity." Music was his passion. A guy who loved life and lived it to the fullest, Thomas always made those around him feel better, and was gifted to have the ability to lift their spirits. He was humorous, loving, compassionate, always thinking of others, loved unconditionally, and everyone was his friend. He cherished his wife, Brittney. Thomas said that his goal had always been to get married and have 16 children. The temple was a healing place for Thomas and Brittney, and they especially wanted to be near his parents as they served in the baptistry. For the past five years, Thomas has suffered from Ewing's Sarcoma, and during this time he has touched many lives in truly meaningful ways. Primary Children's Hospital was Thomas's turf. He loved everyone at Primary Children's Hospital and at Dixie Regional Medical Center. Dr. Jerry Twiggs was Thomas's doctor, a wonderful physician. How grateful the family is for a loving, caring, compassionate doctor and medical attendants. Thomas is survived by his: wife, Brittney, of Ivins, UT; parents, Michael & Jan, of Ivins, UT; siblings, Troy Michael Nixon, of St. George, UT, Elisha Lee Doss, of Washington, UT, and Shaleese Marie Nixon, of Ivins, UT; grandparents, Glen & Loya Gubler, serving in the Adam-Ondi-Ahman Mission; nieces, Billie, Nya, Bailey, and Shannon; and nephews, Dimitri, Treven, and Erik. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George 5th & 6th Ward Chapel, 85 S. 400 E., St. George, with a viewing Tuesday, September 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, and Wednesday, from 9:30 to10:30 a.m., prior to services, at the Chapel.
