GEORGE - Harlan Milton Jansen, age 76, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in St. George, Utah. Harlan was born August 31, 1929 in Adams Minnesota to John A. Jansen and Hazel Margaret Finkelson. Harlan married Connie Brenenstall in Jackson, Wyoming on June 19, 1949. Connie died in Englewood, Colorado on September 8, 1975. Harlan married Sarah May Gale in the Arizona Temple on September 22, 1976. Harlan was a mail carrier, then branch supervisor in the Littleton, Colorado post office for a total of 30 years. Harlan and Sally served LDS missions in Louisiana and California. They were Temple workers in the Las Vegas and the St. George Temples. Harlan is survived by his wife, Sally, children; Christine (John) Robertson, Patricia (Bruce) Schweitzer, Beverly (Hans) Thom, Debra (Leo) Brekel, Kenny (Robin) Yapp, three brothers, one sister, 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ivins LDS Stake Center, 240 East 1060 South, Ivins, Utah. Visitations will be on Friday, September 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd. and on Saturday, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., prior to services at the Ivins Stake Center. Leavitt, 83, passed away September 13, 2005 in St. George, Utah. He was born September 4, 1922 in Green River, Utah to Myrza Jane (Jenny) Miles and Josiah Henry (Si) Leavitt. He married Karma Hirschi in the St. George Temple on June 5, 1940. Don was an active member of the LDS Church where he held many positions. Some of which include being a scout leader for many years, earning the rank of Eagle and Silver Beaver. He was Elders Quorum President for 10 years. He and Karma served an 18-month mission in Alabama. Don was an ordinance worker in the St. George Temple and he especially enjoyed the time he served as a sealer. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 35 years. Don and Karma enjoyed many good friendships they made square dancing. He taught swimming lessons to both children and adults for many years and in several states. Don was involved in many church and community plays and programs often being the M.C. He will be missed by his wife: Karma; daughters: Joey (Ed) Twitchell, Judy (Johnnie) Johnson, Sue (Ken) Jolley, Ann (John) Jacobs, Sherrie (Steve) Cottam, Donna (Doug) Gentry; brothers and sisters, Marjorie Reed, John Pymm, Wes Pymm, Les Pymm, Elaine Long and Arlene Pymm; 26 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. Originally published September 16, 2005 Lee Mace KANAB - Lee Frank "Bill" Mace, age 79, died Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in Kanab, Utah. Born September 5, 1926 in Kanab to Blanche Hicks and Charles Abraham Mace. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp which changed to the Air Force during his service, and was an active member of American Legion Post 69. He married Shirley Ann Maricle on May 7, 1954 in Greeley, Colorado. Lee took pride in being active in his community, serving in politics, charitable organizations, and on numerous advisory boards and committees. His political achievements include being a delegate to county and state political parties many times, delegate to the National Convention in 1968, serving as Uintah County Party Chairman, and being active in numerous campaigns over the years. He was a member and active in the Sons of Utah Pioneers, the Writer's Guild of St. George, the Kanab Library Board, the Private Industry Council in Logan, and served on several boards under Governor Rampton. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union for over 40 years, was involved in the Wrangler's Union, and was a member of the Cattlemen's Association. He worked for many years in various positions in oilfields, and in his younger years had worked as an extra, double and horseman in many western films in the Kanab Area. He also worked for many years as a carpenter and as a rancher. Lee was a man of very high integrity and character. He never had an enemy, always making friends with everyone. He was a great sense of humor, and was a great storyteller. He sang so well he could "make chickens lay double-yolked eggs". Above all he was a great husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include wife Shirley Mace of Kanab; children Perry Lee Mace of Bountiful, UT, Charles Allen Mace of Farr West, UT, and Debra Ann (Wesley) Land of Logan, Utah; brother Wayne C. (Phyllis) Mace of South Dakota; sister Mary Ann (Lloyd) Ferguson of Boise, Idaho; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Kanab Utah South LDS Chapel. Viewing will be held Saturday from 1:00-1:45 PM at the Chapel. Mellor 'Together Again' FAYETTE - Melba Elizabeth Hammond Mellor, 87, of Fayette, Utah, passed away September 14, 2005, in the Gunnison Hospital. She was born October 30, 1917, in Salina, Utah, to John Milton and Christine Katrina Jensen Hammond. She married Wendell Mellor, November 20, 1939, in Manti, Utah. The marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, March 29, 1957. He preceded her in death August 4, 1999. She served faithfully in all the LDS Church Auxiliaries. She and Wendell served a service mission at the Bishop's Storehouse. She is especially known for all the beautiful handmade quilts that she made for her family and friends. She was an example of hard work, service and love to her posterity. She is survived by her children, Irene (Glade) Curtis, Santa Clara; Carolyn (Andrew) Demetropoulos, Tooele; Darlene (Steve) Sorenson, Murray; Brent (Carla) Mellor, Fayette; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Lois) Hammond, Centerfield; sisters-in-law, LaRee Hammond, Fayette; Ruby Hammond, Fayette. She was born on December 13, 1935 to Ortell Ward Rasmussen and Frank Mortensen Rasmussen. Maxine was the only child born to this couple, but she was born into two very large, loving Ward and Rasmussen families. Maxine spent her life in Parowan, and for 2 years attended the University of Wyoming. She worked for 30 years at Southern Utah University in the Registrar's Office from 1991 until her recent retirement. Maxine is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Gale Stolk, daughters Wendy (John) Lisonbee, Ann (Nelson) Williams and Lisa Stolk. She has 4 grandchildren Jamey (Pat) Green, Brandon Williams, Kamille and Richard Lisonbee and 2 great-grandchildren Parker and Taylor Green. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2005, 1:00 p.m. at the Parowan 3rd Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Parowan Cemetery. GEORGE - Shirley Nilsson Willis, 79, beloved wife and mother passed away September 13, 2005. She was greatly loved by her family and friends and we will miss her dearly. Shirley was born to Karl Vilhelm and Adlene Stewart Nilsson in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the oldest of 4 children. She attended Idaho State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Brigham Young University. She married Conrad Paul Willis in 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Shirley and Conrad raised their 6 children in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She loved dancing, traveling and movie musicals. She was a master at old movie trivia. Shirley and Conrad came to St. George in 1996 as missionaries for the LDS Church. While here, she fell in love with St. George and decided to settle her roots in the red sand. She loved the birds and small animals that lived in her yard. Shirley will be sorely missed by her husband Conrad, and by her children: Norman Willis, Kim Clark, Cindy Grover, Connie Myers, William Willis and Christy Ritter. She has 29 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Clara Vineyard 6th Ward Chapel, 630 Riesling Avenue, Santa Clara, UT.
