All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ut/utfiles.htm *********************************************************************** Source: St. George The Spectrum http://www.thespectrum.com Kenneth DeMille Webb HURRICANE - Kenneth Demille Webb, age 42, was killed on September 19, 2005, in Northern Iraq when his vehicle was hit by a suicide car bomber, while providing security for a State Department employee who was working as a diplomatic security agent for the U.S. Regional Embassy Office in Mosul. Ken was born September 22, 1962, in St. George, Utah. Ken married Tina Fuller on October 21, 1983, in St. George, Utah. Ken is a "Class of 1980" graduate of Dixie High School. At age 17, he enlisted with the 19th Special Forces Group out of Draper, Utah. His military career included time in the U.S. Air Force, followed by ROTC at Southern Utah University. From there he was assigned to the 1/504th PIR, 82nd ABN DIV as an Infantry Platoon Leader, then as an Intelligence officer. He soon found his way back into the Special Forces and became an Operational Detachment Alpha Commander. Other positions in which he served include: Executive Officer, Foreign Attache, Observer/ Controller with the Joint Readiness Training Centers Special Operations Training Detachment, and Plans and Operations Officer for the Special Operations Coordination Detachment. Ken retired as a Major in June of 2004, having attained the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Senior parachutist Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, and Meritorious Service Medal among others. Ken was a quiet, humble husband and father of two who enjoyed many activities, to include martial arts, mountaineering, and hiking with his dogs. He was an avid reader who enjoyed history and analyzing current military strategies. Ken was a true Patriot who epitomized the values of the Special Forces soldiers. He never talked about his accomplishments, instead, choosing to focus on the future. Ken was very mission-focused and wanted to do his part to protect our country. Ken is survived by his: wife, Tina; daughter, Kimberly (Sam) Struck; son, Zachary; mother, Cheryl Kay Gale; stepfather, Michael S. Gale; father, Allen Wayne Webb; sister, Linda Kay (Eric) Stidham; brothers, Michael Allen (Mischelle) Webb, Steven Wayne Webb, and Jason (Tricia) Webb; stepsisters, Rebecca Ann (Scott) Johnson, Libbi (Lynn) Richardson, and Laini (Howard) De Vore; and stepbrother, Michael (Rechelle) Gale. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2005, at 12:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Stake Center, 677 S. 700 W., Hurricane. Interment will be at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Originally published September 27, 2005 Melba Erickson Melba Jean Kennington Erickson, 95, of Lyman, Idaho; longtime resident and native of Afton, Wyoming died September 24, 2005 at Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg of natural causes. She was born May 15, 1910 in Afton to Albert Edwin Kennington and Stella Call Kennington. She grew up in Afton and graduated from Star Valley High School. She married Milton Edward Erickson on November 2, 1932 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Seven children were born to this union. She worked as a telephone operator, cook, elections clerk, census taker, butter wrapper and seamstress. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many years as Relief Society Secretary. She served as a leader and teacher in the Auxiliaries of the Church and was an avid temple attendee. She was an accomplished seamstress and had also made many quilts. Her active mind remained interested in the world and she loved learning new things. She was a devoted wife and mother, a faithful Church member and loving friend. She is survived by four sons and three daughters: Ted (Elivra) Erickson of Lyman, Idaho; Verd (Terry) Erickson of St. George, Utah; Kent (Jill) Erickson of Douglas, Wyoming; Wayne (Suzanne) Erickson of Newcastle, Wyoming; Marilyn Erickson of Bellevue, Washington; Lorna (DeLoy) Roberts of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Shannon (David) Chase of Taylorsville, Utah; 39 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 22, 1996; brothers: Dale, Theodore and Glen and a sister: Berlyn. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lyman LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 1952 W. 6000 South in Lyman, Idaho. Friends may visit with the family one hour before services. GEORGE - Evelyn June Webb was born June 23, 1930 in Central Gardens, California. Alfred and Evelyn wed May 8, 1958 and shared their lives and devotion for forty-seven years. Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband, Alfred J. Goguen; children, Richard, Dennis, Debbie and Michael; grandchildren, Dennis, Darren, Damon, James and Michelle, Heather, Jeff, Joey and Hillary, Lisa, Christi and Rita, Wendy and Kevin; 13 great grandchildren, all sharing in the loss in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 25,2005 after a ten year battle with cancer. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and a grandson. She graced our lives with her beautiful sweetness, love, devotion and generous ways. She will always live on in our hearts. GEORGE - James B Mason returned to his Heavenly Father Saturday evening, September 24, 2005. He was born June 29th, 1924, to James McKinley Mason and Viola Bell Smothermon Mason in Hoxie, Arkansas. Jim was raised on a farm in Harrisburg, Arkansas, along with his four brothers. Jim then married his sweetheart, Auda May Morris on December 23rd, 1948 in Lepanto, Arkansas. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Alberta Temple in Cardston, Alberta, Canada March 25th, 1978. Auda and Jim lived many years in Polson, Montana, where Jim owned and operated Mason Auto Repair and Service. In December of 1984, they moved to Fullerton, California, where Jim continued utilizing his mechanical talents working with the U-Haul Corporation. He retired in 1991. In 1992, he and Auda moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. They decided to make one more move, that being to St. George, where they have lived since 1993. Jim was a friend to all and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved working in the St George Temple. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife Auda, and two brothers, Thomas (Sherrie) Mason, of Alexandria, Indiana and Royce (Lois Jean) Mason, of Hector, Arkansas, two nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29th, 1:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday, both at the Mortuary. Interment will in the St. George Cemetery. Originally published September 27, 2005 Ralph N. Morley Dec 11, 1924 - Sept 26, 2005 ST. GEORGE - Ralph N. Morley, 80, passed away Sept. 26, 2005 from complications of Alzheimer's. He was born Dec 11, 1924 in Axtell, Utah, the son of George F. & Caroline Nielsen Morley. He married Phyllis Draper Feb 25, 1948 in the Manti Temple. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the Philippines and Japan, going in just after they dropped the Atomic Bomb. After retiring from HAFB, he left Kaysville to retire in St. George, Utah. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in several ward capacities through the years, and served as a Stake Missionary. He sang in the choir most of his married life. He will be greatly missed by his survivors: wife Phyllis of St George and five children, Bruce (Veda) Morley, Marilyn (Larry) Eubanks, Dennis (Barbara) Morley, Paul (Carol) Morley, & Jon Morley, all of Kaysville, Utah, his 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and one sister, Maurine (Frank) Brinkerhoff, of Bicknell, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 half brothers and sisters.
