Bennett, Claude Wright ROY - Claude Wright Bennett returned to our Heavenly Father on April 1, 2005 in his home in Roy, Utah. Claude was born January 1, 1928 in Grace, Idaho, the son of Harold W. and Millie Perry Bennett. He served with the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II as a fireman first class and received a Victory Medal, given for his bravery during the war. He served three more years on the U.S.S. Raymond. He was a mechanic and had worked for Crabtree Auto, Bodily Auto and Clearfield Tire and Auto. Claude retired in 1986 from Boeing. He is survived by daughter Kimberly Bennett, Ogden, stepsons Rodney Butler, Ogden, David Butler, Ogden, Bobby (Denice) Butler, Riverdale, daughters; Claudine Bennett, Ogden, Cindy Hoff, Avondale, AZ, and Kerry (David) Lopez, Peoria, AZ; son, Kevin (Linda) Bennett, Glendale, AZ; stepchildren Scott (Kris) Neville, Ogden, Rayanne Walker, Ogden, Carolyn Rickard, Dillon, MT, Mark (Teresa) Neville, Ogden, 32 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandch ildren. Douglas, 90, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at a local care center of causes incident to age. She was born October 30, 1914 in Brigham City, a daughter of James V. and Lottie E. Hendricks Simpson. On November 21, 1931, Edith married William V. Douglas in Ogden. William preceded her in death on October 6, 1973. She was raised and educated in Hooper where she lived her entire life. Edith was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Edith was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Surviving are three daughters, Sherill (Edward) Venstra, Hooper; Delene (Floyd) Wiedmeier, Las Vegas, NV; Danna (Steve) Matthews, Ogden; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mae Child, Ogden. Preceding her in death were her husband, son Kent, brother Art, and sister Ruth. Drysdale, Kiley Adam Kiley Adam Drysdale On April 2, 2005 our beloved son and little brother left us and went home to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. Kiley was born on a warm spring day May 25, 1983. He brought joy and love to his family from the moment he was born. Kiley was a very valiant son of God and stood for truth and righteousness his whole life. He was always the first one to help another or take care of the underdog. Kiley was an excellent student with a keen mind. He was always an honor roll student and often carried a 4.0 grade point average. He loved sports and his passion was playing football which he excelled in. He graduated from Sky View High School and attended Utah State University for several semesters. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had been an active member his whole life. Kiley was welcomed in Heaven by his angel sister, Elizabeth Becky Murray. Born September 23, 1915 in Midvale, Utah to Frank and Francis Jersin Mismash. Rose was an avid bowler in the Salt Lake area with her husband and daughter until two years ago when health problems prevented her from bowling any longer. She was also a faithful Jazz Fan. Hamblin, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Avalon Care Center. He was born September 27, 1922 in Clearfield the son of Ralph and Thelma Olsen Hamblin. Earl graduated from Davis High School in 1940. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Earl married Mary Park on March 29, 1952 in Elko, Nevada. She preceded him in death. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a High Priest in the Farr West 4th Ward. Earl was a finish carpenter and enjoyed working with his hands. He was an avid golfer. Earl enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Surviving are one step-daughter, Joan (Sheldon) Child, Salt Lake City; one step-daughter-in-law, Veva Haacke, Temecula, CA; eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. OGDEN - Frank LeRoy Horspool Jr., 81, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 5, 2005, after a brief illness. He was born July 12, 1923, in Ogden, Utah, to Frank LeRoy Sr. and Mavanwy Davis Horspool. He grew up and spent his entire life in Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School Class of 1941. He also attended Weber State College. On June 22, 1946, Frank married Maralyn Stratford in Ogden, Utah. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this year. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mt. Lewis 1st Ward. Frank was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad and retired after 45 years of service. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He always felt like "Anchors Away" was a national anthem. He was very proud to have served. After returning from the war, he continued his service with the Union Pacific Railroad. After his retirement, he and Maralyn traveled extensively with lots of de ar friends. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, and he planted and tended a beautiful yard. Frank loved music and at age 70 learned to play the organ, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He loved Christmas and for many years donned the red suit and white beard as Santa for family and friends. He was a member of Gold's Gym and missed very few days of exercising and visiting. He was very fond of friends he made at the gym. Frank was so proud of his son and his grandchildren and their spouses. Family and friends were so dear to his heart. He is survived by his wife, Maralyn, his little dog, Heidi, who was always at his side, son, Scott (Michelle) Horspool, a grandson, Kurt Horspool, granddaughters, Laci (Jason) Gorder and Lindsay (Brady) Nicholls and a new great-grandson, Dawson Brady Nicholls, who he said made life worth living. He is also survived by four brothers, Gary (Connie) Horspool, Larry (Rhonda) Horspool, Kent (Linda) Horspool, and Ray (Lana) Horspool, and two sisters, Betty (LaMar) Kin g and Beverly Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn Beecher and an infant brother, Leslie Horspool. Johnson, Daniel Daniel "Tony" Johnson On April 4, 2005, at the age of 36, our loving father, son, brother, grandson, uncle and cousin, Daniel Antonne (Tony) Johnson entered the warm embrace of God. This ended a long and hard battle with Multiple Sclerosis and cancer. Born on August 5, 1968, Tony now leaves behind his father and mother, Daniel H. and Kristene Johnson; brother's family, Weston, April, Jada and Jena Johnson; his sister's family, Nesha, Michael, Kennedy, Michaeleigha, Daniella, Zachary and Spencer Slade; grandmother, (Mammy) Rea Heines; and foremost the sole pride and purpose of his life, his sons, Alec and Austin Johnson. Tony had been married and divorced twice. He had maintained a good relationship with his boys mother, Tammy Palmer and her husband Mark, and his second wife, Amie Barrick. The family would also like to express an extreme gratitude to those who helped make Tony's battle with illness easier for him to bear. These include Drs. Elena Hewitt and Roxina Fischer, his special friend Colleen Storey, his extended family, hospital staff, clergy, and all his friends throughout the years. Larsen, Glendon Spring Glendon Spring Larsen ROY - Our cute father, husband and grandfather passed away, Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Ogden Regional Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1923 in Logan, Utah, to James Otto and Esther Spring Larsen. On September 6, 1943, Glendon married Iva Roberta Williams in the Logan LDS Temple. Soon after his marriage, he was called to serve in World War II in the Philippines for the Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic. While in the military, his first daughter was born. Five other girls were later born. He deeply loved his family and we deeply loved him. Because our father lost his father at the age of nine, Dad and his siblings worked hard on their farm to help support their widowed mother. Our father worked hard all his life. We will always remember the delicious "Garden of Eating" that he planted each year, which was a legacy he left for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Sa ints all his life, our father was a great example and served many positions in the Church in both Ward and Stake levels. Our father loved to fish and work in his garden, but his greatest enjoyment was being with his family. Marshall, Bernice Karen Bjorn Bernice Karen Bjorn Marshall Sept. 21, 1913 - April 3, 2005, of Boulder, Colorado formerly of Peoria, Illinois died of pneumonia Sunday evening, April 3, 2005. She was 91. The daughter of Sofus Englehart Bjorn and Clara Jensen Bjorn, she was born September 21, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska. They later settled in Tremonton, Utah. She married Paul Robert Marshall in Tremonton on June 25, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2002, after 62 years of marriage. She graduated from Bear River High in Tremonton and attended Utah State, She lived in Peoria, Illinois from 1946 to 1998 when she moved to Boulder, CO. She is survived by four sons Paul (Bob) Robert Marshall Jr. of Irvine, CA, Terry R. Marshall of Longmont, CO, Todd B. Marshall of Spring, TX, and Jon K. Marshall of Sunrise, FL and one daughter Kay Marshall Smart of Boulder, CO. and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene, Lyle, Melvin and Duane Bjorn and survived by two sisters Betty Wrathall, and Trix Ewer. McFarland, Marval Middleton Marval Middleton McFarland In Loving Memory Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away Friday, April 1. Marval was born in Boise, Idaho, September 20, 1912 to Charles Arthur Middleton and Ruby May Watkins. She attended schools in the Ogden area, graduating from Ogden High School in 1931. Art classes with renowned artists furthered her education. On November 2, 1934, Marval married Daniel A. (Bruce) McFarland in the Salt Lake Temple, and for 49 years they were devoted to each other. Bruce passed away March 27, 1984. She missed him dearly. Marval was a gifted artist, receiving the highest honor for an original ceramic sculpture by D.F. Liden, publisher of the Popular Ceramics Magazine. She was invited to tour art museums in Europe with sixteen fellow artists. She loved her travels to Europe. Hawaii was also a favorite. Marval loved her Father in Heaven and Savior. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in many callings in the Mt. Ogden Ward. Ma rval devoted many loving hours serving as President and member of the Aglaia Club, the Ogden High School PTA, the Lakeview Chapter of China Painters, the Ogden Palette Club, the Western Art Guild, and as a Co-captain and member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Her students at Weber State University remember her love of art. Marval will be remembered by her family and friends as a person who saw beauty in life and living. She expressed her love through her ceramics, her paintings and her artistic talents. Marval is survived by three children, Mitzi Sanders of Ft. Worth, Texas, Judy Radford (Ed) of Salt Lake City, and Bruce Taylor McFarland (Sherrie) of Fresno, California, ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, two sisters, Norma Brenchley (Tom) of Roy, and Joy Anderson of Eagle, Idaho, and one brother, Terry Middleton (deceased). Mower, 81, graciously slipped the bonds of this earthly presence on Monday, April 4, 2005, to return to the embrace of our Father in Heaven, after a valiant fight with cancer. His journey in this life began in Fairview, Utah on August 21, 1923 where he was born to Winston and Thelma Larsen Mower. He was raised on a farm in Oak Creek and attended North Sanpete High School in Mt. Pleasant. He also graduated from the University of Utah. He married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Maurine Blackham, on February 2, 1942. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Tom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was very pleased to serve many years in various capacities in the church, and continued to serve honorably in many callings throughout his lif e. He loved to attend the temple and he had a strong and enduring testimony of the Gospel and its teachings. During World War II he served with the U. S. Navy at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as an airplane mechanic and following the war on Shore Patrol Duty riding the train from Ogden to Cheyenne supervising returning sailors. Tom taught English at Bountiful High School for nine years and later taught many years at Stevens Henager Business College in Ogden. During this time he raised mink on a farm in South Willard for 35 years. He also had an apple orchard in Pleasant View where he raised beautiful apples for sale in area stores. He was well-known in his community as a man of integrity, hard work and honesty. One of his great loves in life was his music. Late in life he learned to play the piano and composed many songs. Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maurine, of South Willard; sons: Thomas E. (Lydia) Mower, Payson, UT; Dr. Richard W. (Pam) Mower, Fountain Hills, AZ; Jerry B. (Tedi Jeen) Mower, Bedford, WY; John L. Mower, Clinton; daughter Lori M. (Gale) Hall, Willard; and daughter-in-law, Dee Mower, Springville; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Simpson, Louise Cook (1930 - 2005) SYRACUSE - Louise Cook Simpson, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully April 5, 2005. She was born August 13, 1930 in Ogden, Utah, to David Ernest and Ireta Steed Cook. She married Joseph Glen Simpson on August 13, 1948 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They have been married 56 years and have lived in Syracuse all their lives. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had a strong testimony and dedicated many hours in church callings, serving as Relief Society President, Young Women President, Primary President, Primary accompanist and many other positions in the Church. Louise and Joe had the opportunity to serve a mission in Cody, WY in 1998. They also served on the Syracuse Historical Committee. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Rachel Layton Warren Camp and served as Captain and many other capacities in her camp and company board. She had a passion for quilting and was a wonderful coo k. She was happiest when she was serving others. Louise was a wonderful mother and example to her family. She cherished the time she spent with her large extended family. Her greatest pleasure was family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Louise is survived by her husband Joseph and six children, Joanne (Donald) Strack of Centerville, UT; Russell (Dixie) Simpson of Syracuse, UT; Karen (Michael) Roberts of Provo, UT; Barbara (Douglas) Lovell of Syracuse, UT; Suzanne (Gary) Riggs of Hendersen, NV; and Glen (Susan) Simpson of Murrieta, CA; 29 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren ( two grandsons currently serving full time missions); sisters Winnifred (Floyd) Harmston, Columbia, MO; Nelva (Wendell) Hansen, Salt Lake City, UT; and brother Lawrence (Cleone) Cook, Syracuse, UT. Preceded in death by daughter Diane, grandson, Eli; parents; and sisters, Fanny Marie Cook and June (Lewis) Briggs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse West St ake Center, 1600 So. 4500 W. Wallace, Kenneth Elmo CLINTON - Kenneth Elmo Wallace, 85, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle returned to his Heavenly Father Wednesday, April 6, 2005 surrounded by his family Mr. Wallace was born March 1, 1920 in Clinton, Utah to Underwood Woody and Ada Owen Wallace. He married Margie Housley in Willard, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a High Priest in the Clinton 16th Ward. He enjoyed doing sealing work in the Ogden Temple for many years. He attended Davis County Schools where he achieved awards for his agile athletic ability. He worked at the Naval Supply Depot and Hill Air Force Base where he received several awards before his retirement. Kenneth had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed attending his grandson's basketball games and watching the Utah Jazz. He enjoyed raising pigeons, letting them eat from his hands. He enjoyed riding his off road motorcycle in the mountains, fishing, hunting, camping and any act ivity with his family. He was good at solving quizzes and especially enjoyed solving the cryptoquotes in the Standard-Examiner each day. He loved to farm and was well known for his beautiful fields and his prize winning delicious watermelons and other produce. He was noted for his honesty in his dealings with his fellowman. The produce at the bottom of the basket was as good or better than the produce at the top. Kenneth never met a stranger. His pleasant friendly nature earned him many friends. He was tenderhearted and patient. His good sense of humor will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife Margie, Clinton; two sons and two daughters: Robert (Tamara) Wallace, Clinton; W. Kris (Sandy) Wallace, Layton; Janet (Dave) Weight, Syracuse; Colleen (John) Manzanares, Kaysville. He is also survived by a brother, Jasper (Joyce) Wallace, Clinton; and a sister Ruth (Loren) Barclay, Tunas, MO; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, ne phews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Bertha, a brother Ezra Wallace and one grandson Troy Wallace. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Clinton Stake Center, 1288 West 1300 North. OGDEN - Leonard Robert Wilson, 77, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at a local care center. He was born January 10, 1928 in Ogden, a son of Leonard Josh and Elida G. Christensen Wilson. On June 18, 1948, Leonard married Bette LaFair Barnett in Ogden. He lived most of his life in the Ogden area. Leonard served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955 during the Korean War. He was a sheet metal worker for many years. Leonard was a member of the Golden Spike Antique Car Club and Model A Car Club. He liked horses, old cars and fishing. Surviving are his wife Bette of Ogden; two sons and one daughter, Dennis Robert (Marcia) Wilson, Plain City; Steven Leonard (Shirlene) Wilson, Liberty; Tammie (Rodney) Deppen, Harrisville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Joie Laloli, Ogden. Preceding him in death were his parents and one granddaughter, Shannalee Deppen.
