Val G. Davis OGDEN - Val George Davis, 71, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born September 29, 1933 in Downey, Idaho, a son of Clarence Arthur and Violet Dean Davis. On September 27, 1952, Val married Dolores Tidwell in Ogden. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden. Val was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Val retired from Hill Air Force Base as a supervisor in Air Force Logistics Command. He enjoyed golfing and coffee with friends. Surviving are his wife of Ogden; one son and two daughters, Robert Davis, Angela (Patrick) Tehero and Janette Davis, all of Ogden; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother. Dunn, Jayson Leon Jayson Leon Dunn TREMONTON - Jayson Leon Dunn, surrounded by friends and family members, was reunited with his earthly and Heavenly Father due to complications from pneumonia on Tuesday, April 19, 2005. He was born on November 10, 1970 in Pocatello, Idaho, son of L. Glade and Geneal Dunn. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Mary Lynn Hubbard on April 9, 2004 in Alpine, Utah. Jayson will be remembered as never making an enemy and only knew good friends, better friends and best friends. He loved rock climbing, Sunday morning pillow fights with his daughters, hunting with his Dad, exploring the desert and anything with a little hint of danger. Hansen, Jr. SALT LAKE CITY - Bertle Daniel Hansen, Jr., a powerhouse of a man, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Ogden. Bert was born July 15, 1922 in Park City, Utah, a son of Bertle D. Sr. and Ida Catherine Sultzer Hansen. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Carter, on March 16, 1940. Helen preceded him in death on April 1, 1976. Surviving are his children: Bertle III (Susan), of California; Jeffrey (Pat), of New Mexico; Pamela Clemens, California; Roger (Billie) of North Carolina; Kevin of Arizona; Christine (Bill) Ashworth, of Utah; Lee (Jude) of Utah; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, one infant son, one brother Russell and two sisters Adele and Doris. Johansen, Dorothy LaVern Dorothy LaVern Johansen MIAMI, Florida - Dorothy LaVern Johansen, age 74, died April 17, 2005, in Miami, Florida. She was born April 4, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Herbert George and Laverne Marie Goff Gray. She married Douglas J. Johansen, Sr., in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 23, 1951. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 17, 1964. Dorothy lived on the Fairfield Air Force Base in California where her father was stationed. It was while she was there with her family that she met her husband Douglas, who was also stationed there. While her husband was in the military she had the opportunity to live in many parts of the nation and world. Dorothy was very active and loved swimming, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a great mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, and she loved and was devoted to her family. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held many auxil iary positions. She especially enjoyed serving in the Cub Scouting program, which she did for 13 years. Dorothy and her husband served a mission for the LDS Church in the Canada, Halifax Mission. She is survived by her husband Douglas of St. George, their children: Dennis (Connie) Johansen and Daniel (Janet) Johansen both of St. George, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters, nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Preceded in death by her parents, sons: Douglas Jr., and David, granddaughter, Melissa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2005, at 10 a.m., at the Sunset LDS 2nd Ward, 82 N. Johnson, Andrew Spence Andy Johnson NORTH OGDEN - Andrew Spence Johnson, 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Infinia Healthcare. Andy was a gentle and courageous man who battled his terrible illness all his life with humor and true grit. We will miss him and his example. He was born on May 25, 1950 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Marjorie King Hilton and Stanley E. Johnson. He came to Utah to be with his mother and stepfather, Cliff Hilton, in 1982. He lived at St. Benedict's Manor for many years with his beloved wife, Louise Reed Johnson, who preceded him in death in 2001. Surviving are two brothers, Mark Johnson, NYC, and Scott Johnson, Baghdad; and two sisters, Susan Johnson, Colorado Springs, and Jennie Caverly, Michigan. Andy loved music and had a large collection of 60's Rock & Roll classics. He enjoyed playing golf, and volunteered at several agencies in Ogden before his illness took him to hospitals and finally to Infinia Healthcare. The nurses and aides there did a wonderful job i n caring for Andy, making him comfortable and loving him. His family is grateful to them, and to the medical staff at McKay Dee-Hospital, and the counselors at Weber Human Services. There will be an informal memorial service at the Adult Day Treatment Building, 237 26th St., Ogden on April 28th, at 11 a.m. Andy and Louise visited this building for years and knew most of the counselors there. Leigh, Leonard Ray 1969 - 2005 Leonard Ray (Lenny) Leigh CLINTON - Leonard Ray (Lenny) Leigh, 35, cherished father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, climbed out of his wheelchair, into his truck, and with a smile on his face, drove off into the horizon, crossing the finish line of life on April 18, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer, never complaining about his lot in life. Lenny was born September 7, 1969, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Merlin Ray and Lorna Sue Duffin Stoddard. When Lenny was six, his mother married LeGrand B. Leigh. One year later, Lenny was adopted. He grew up in Plain City, and graduated from Weber High School in 1987. Lenny was a very loving person, who would do anything for his family and friends. His friends were his life and he loved spending time with them. He enjoyed bike racing, the sand dunes, working on cars, and painting. He was a talented artist, who specialized in fine airbrush work. He is survived by his daughter, Shalane Holm, his parents LeGrand and Lorna Leigh of Clinto n, his grandparents, Ray and Edith Stoddard of Idaho Falls, six brothers and sisters, Rick (Marj) Leigh, Craig (Marie) Leigh, Melanie (Trent) McDonald, Daniel (Mandy) Leigh, Kara Bosgieter, and Amber (Jacob) Olney, and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Ermine Duffin. Lenny requested that no formal service be conducted. A private family memorial was held on April 18th. There will be a memory exchange at 2 p.m. on April 23, 2005, at Sandridge Park, 2100 W. 4400 S. Roy, Utah. Friends and family are invited to gather and share experiences in honor of the life Lenny lived. Stories of Lenny's life will be welcomed and greatly appreciated. Casual dress is requested. Mattson, Kyle Logan Kyle Logan Mattson PLEASANT VIEW - On April 19, 2005, Kyle Logan Mattson, 54, beloved husband, father and son, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Kyle was born October 13, 1950 to Logan C. and Carol Teuscher Mattson. He was raised and educated in Utah. On October 13, 1978 he married Leisa Harris of Logan, Utah in the Ogden LDS Temple. Kyle received his undergraduate degree from Weber State University, masters degrees from Syracuse University and Utah State University, and doctorate from the University of Kentucky. He taught finance in the College of Business at the University of Wisconsin and at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and returned to his beloved Weber State University as a faculty member in 1996. Kyle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Pleasant View 10th Ward. He served in the France-Belgium mission and various organizations in the church including scouting, and several years as prop m aster for the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York. Kyle is survived by Leisa, his wife of 27 years; their children, Blaire of Dallas, Texas, and Devin Kyle, currently serving an LDS mission in Norway; parents and brother Rand (Cynthia). He was preceded in death by his son, Kyle Harris Mattson. Morris, Atha May Carter Freeman Atha May Carter Freeman Morris SOUTH OGDEN - Atha passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005 following a short battle with breast cancer. She was born May 21, 1923, in Brigham City, a daughter of Simeon Frederick and Edna Melissa Wright Carter. The family moved to Perry, Utah when she was five years old. She attended Perry Elementary School, Box Elder Jr. High and High School. She continued her education at Ogden Business College and later at Weber State University. Atha married her high school sweetheart, Alf Donald Freeman, on September 29, 1944 in Amarillo, Texas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Don passed away April 21, 1984. She married Steve R. Morris, of Syracuse, on June 26, 1987. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed many callings, especially those where she was called to teach. She recently completed requirements to graduate from the LDS Institute of Religion at Weber State University. Atha worked for the Stat e of Utah Marriage Counseling Service, Mountain Fuel Supply Company, Thiokol Rocket Operation Center and Weber State University. While at Weber State University, she was Executive Secretary for Presidents William P. Miller and Joseph L. Bishop. She retired from the university in June of 1987. Surviving are her husband Steve, South Ogden; three children, Robert D. (Fern), Freeman, West Point; Richard C. Freeman, Washington Terrace; Ann (Steve) Stokes, South Weber; stepson, D oug (Jackie) Morris, Mesa, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Shirl F. (Wilma) Carter, Mission Viejo, CA; sister-in-law Ida Kimber Carter, Westminster, CA; brother-in-law Marlow D. Thorne, Urbana, IL; and stepmother-in-law, Kallona Freeman, Brigham City. Preceding her in death were her first husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers. Shumway Jr., Leland Leland Lee Shumway, Jr. Leland Lee Shumway, Jr., 74, passed away April 18, 2005. Born in Akron, Lee was raised in Meigs County, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed with Goodyear Aerospace as a Field Service Rep. With his family he traveled the world extensively representing his company, retiring in 1995 after 35 years of service. Lee was a Mason and a life member of NRA. Preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Cleora, he is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis; sons, Leland (Darlene), III of Utah, Jay A. (Margie) of Arizona, John (Tracey) of New Mexico, and Eric (Lisa) of Utah; daughter, Maureen (Tony) Duncan of Nevada; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and best friend, Peb Shuey. Skogerboe, Gaylord Vincent Gaylord Vincent Skogerboe "Skog" 1935 - 2005 WASHINGTON TERRACE - Gaylord Vincent Skogerboe died peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital from complications of diabetes. He was born April 1, 1935 in Cresco, Iowa, a son of Reuben and Rozella Skogerboe. He spent much of his youth in the Midwest. He later moved to Grantsville, Utah. He was very active in high school in many activities, and served as president of his class at Grantsville High. He graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters Degree in 1959. Skog married Henrietta Van Huizen on July 23, 1958 in Salt Lake City. He traveled and worked abroad for many years in Pakistan, Thailand, Philippines and Sri Lanka doing work in irrigation and drainage. He was employed by Colorado State University for 16 years and later worked for Utah State University. In August 2005, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Kasetsart University of Thailand. This was a very big moment in his life. Skog was a very optimistic, caring person and loved his work in helping third world countries improve their ability to grow better crops and use their land to the best of their ability. After he retired from Utah State University he worked for several years on the genealogy of his father's and mother's families. He will be remembered most for his optimism, his sense of humor, and love of people. Surviving are his wife Henrietta, Washington Terrace; son Michael Skogerboe, daughter Susan and son-in-law Angelo Iacoboni, California; and one granddaughter Rachel. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers: Maralee Parkinson, Grantsville; Dean Skogerboe, Salt Lake City; Dennis Skogerboe, Fruitland, ID; Larry Skogerboe and Shelley Dalton, both of Salt Lake City. Tenbrook, Doris Madeline Moss Doris Madeline Moss Tenbrook BRIGHAM CITY - Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Doris Madeline Moss TenBrook, passed away on April 16, 2005 two days before her 88th birthday from renal failure. She was born on April 18, 1918 in Galveston, Indiana, a daughter of Jesse Ray and Nina Julia Kerby Moss. Doris married Donovan "Tim" TenBrook on March 12, 1938 in Burlington, Indiana. They lived most of their married life in Indiana until 1951, when they moved to Whittier, California to start a new life together with their daughters, Shirley Ann and Sharon Kay. Doris graduated from Fullerton College in Cosmetology. She was a hair stylist for many years. Tim never had a haircut from a barber, Doris was his barber. She also gave many haircuts to family members and friends throughout her life. Doris loved to watch the Jazz games on the TV. Doris had a great sense of humor, even until the end of her life. She was known as a one liner. Doris had a pure heart and was sweet and kind to all she knew. She will be missed by her faithful companion Missee her schnauzer dog. Doris was an active member of the Community Presbyterian in Brigham City. She also worked for Meyercord DeCals and Hinshaw Department Store in Whittier, California. Tim & Doris moved to Brigham City in September of 1985. Doris and Tim belonged to the Good Sams Group. She loved to sew, play canasta cards, cook and loved being with her family. She was also known as a "workaholic always busy doing something. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley (Larry) Olson, Brigham City; Sharon (John) VanderLaan, Kalispell, Montana; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Herman "Pete" Moss of Indiana; one sister, Norma Aschenberg, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one, brother, William "Bill" Moss, three sisters, Edith Kendall, Esther Glassburn and Dorothy Aschenberg. Wade 1953 - 2005 HOOPER, Utah - Larry Brad Wade, age 51, of Cape Yakataga, Alaska and formerly of Hooper, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, April 16, 2005 in his home in Yakataga which had caught on fire. He was born September 28, 1953 in Ogden, Utah, a son of the late Rollin Larry and Dora Lynne (Cookie) Yeaman Wade of Hooper, Utah. He is the loving brother of Jeff and Diane Wade of Hooper, Sherri and Clark Mortensen of Hinckley, Utah. He is the sweet Uncle of Justin, Tiffany, Wayne, Jason, Mindy, Rex, Andy, Michelle and Zachary. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended school in Hooper and graduated from Roy High School. He has lived in some very remote parts of Alaska for the past twenty-five years. He loved and respected nature and the many small animals he raised throughout the years. He made friends easily and had many. He will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
