Bates, Wayne Leslie Wayne Leslie Bates Wayne Leslie Bates passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on the beautiful spring evening of April 25, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 13, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, to Leslie A. and Edith Youngberg Bates. He spent his childhood in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He earned a BES in Electrical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1959. Wayne married Ann Williams on June 9, 1959, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and together they raised six children. Wayne devoted his life to the happiness and well-being of his family. Wayne worked for 29 years as a software engineer for the U.S. Government; most of those years were spent at Hill Air Force Base. He retired from HAFB in 1991. In 1971, Wayne and Ann started a business processing tax returns by computer. That business has grown from a small operation run from the basement of their Kaysville home into TaxWorks, which now includes ov er 100 wonderful and dedicated employees. Wayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many different capacities. He was involved in the community and was on the Board of Directors for various civic and educational organizations. He was an innovative, creative, brilliant man who had an uncommon amount of common sense. Wayne loved reading, history, car races, action movies, spicy food, computers, e-mail, driving, old friends, new friends, NBA basketball, BYU sports, and a comfortable chair. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ann Williams, his mother, Edith Youngberg Bates, a brother, Dean (Wendy) Bates, six children, David (Becky) Bates, Christine (Lyle) Petersen, Jacqueline (Scott) Heagy, Cynthia (Dean) Jensen, Rachel (Kevin) Hancock, Suzanne Bates and 19 grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Leslie Anthony Bates. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Somerset Chapel, 1885 N. S ummerwood Drive, Farmington, Utah. Burton, Verona Verona BurtonTogether Again Verona Allen Burton passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at her home. She was born April 12, 1919 in Trenton, Utah, the daughter of Brent Taylor and Laverna Pitcher Allen. She married Ronald Burton on November 17, 1939. They were sealed on February 14, 1981 in the Ogden Temple. He passed away on June 27, 2000. She graduated from Ogden High in 1937. During the war years she was a dental assistant at H.A.F.B. She later worked for ZCMI and Fred M. Nye's. She was an avid square dancer for 25 years. In her later years she enjoyed ballroom dancing with her friends at the senior centers. She was in three plays at the Terrace Plaza playhouse. During her retirement years she and Ronald spent winters in Mazatlan, Mexico, Yuma, Arizona, and St. George, Utah. She has written several books. Verona is survived by her children; Scott (Alona) South Weber, and Jan Sorenson-Cox (Kenneth), Hurricane, Utah, former son-in-law Boyd Sorenson. She is also survived by five grandchild ren, Todd Burton, Anthony Burton, Amber Riley, Chad Sorenson, and Zachary Sorenson. She has four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Leon Allen and Jack Allen, and sister, Shirley Winchester. Her granddaughter Heather Wright and two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. Sill Edwards, 91, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at her son's home. She was born July 25, 1913 in Layton the daughter of David Morris and Rose Ellen Webster Sill. Lorna married John Elmer Edwards on December 12, 1931 in West Point, Utah. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1980. She was a member of the LDS church. Lorna liked crafts, quilts, camping, crocheting and making doilies. Surviving are two sons, Nolan (Pat), Salt Lake City; Phil (Violet), Clearfield; daughter, Caroldene (Larry) Bodily, Chular, CA; 42 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Flink, John Adrian John Adrian Flink CLEARFIELD - On May 17, 1979 a little angel was born and entrusted into the hands of Hans A. Flink and Gayle Turner Flink. They named him John, meaning, "God's Precious Gift" and from that day forward he became our greatest teacher. He taught us unconditional love, compassion, endurance and patience. He taught the need for humor in times of distress, to enjoy simplicity, that loved ones come first and the appreciation for good music. John not only taught our family but also his group home family, who cared for him on a daily basis. We as a family, would like to thank TURN Community Services and all the staff who devoted so much time and concern in John's behalf. John returned home Sunday, April 24, 2005 to be reunited with his Savior and Grandmothers. Grant, Harral Verret Harral Verret Grant Harral Verret Grant, 82, departed life peacefully from his home in Centerville, Utah on April 25, 2005. He was born March 9, 1923 to Henry C. and Orena Verret Grant in Garland, Wyoming; the third of five children. He spent most of his growing-up years in Pacoima, California. Hal served his country during World War II in the Armed Guard and visited Egypt, Israel, Panama, Argentina, England and other foreign countries. After being released from the Navy, he chose to continue to serve in the Air Force where he specialized in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. His assignments took him to many bases around the United States and to Puerto Rico and the Philippines. He also worked as a civilian at Hill AFB specializing as a Supervisor in Technical Manuals on munitions. He was blessed to have shared his life with two wonderful women. He married Pauline Kaeberle on August 31, 1947; she passed away in 1969 but they were later sealed in the Bountiful Temple. On Jan. 10, 1970 he marri ed Sally Whalen. He often referred to his wives as his first "two heart attacks". After retiring, he and Sally moved to Chula Vista, California where she worked at Miramar NAS and he "worked" as a volunteer in local schools. He assisted at-risk students 4 or 5 days a week by tutoring them in math and encouraging them to complete their education. His trademark "Top of the mornin' to you" and the accompanying salute were recognized in several area schools. His volunteering brought him recognition and he received several awards for his retirement "work". His life was an example of service, both to country and community. He was a strong advocate of education; he believed in people and their innate goodness, and, most of all, he loved his family and cherished their accomplishments. Hal will be missed by those who survive him; his dear wife, Sally, a Daughter, Beth (David) Lefgren, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren and a younger brother, Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Kathy, two sons; Hal Jr. and Danny, a brother; Larry, two sisters; Elaine and Loreda, and a great granddaughter, Kaeberlie. The reunion must be joyful. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Centerville 3rd Ward, 900 South 400 East, Centerville, Utah. There will be no public viewing. Iverson FRANKLIN, Idaho - Barbara Noyes Iverson, 55, affectionately known as Aunt B, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at the St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born April 1, 1950, in Morgan, Utah, the daughter of Verle Mc and Doris Egbert Noyes. She married Alan R. Iverson on December 21, 1979, in Morgan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as ward chorister for many years and always loved the members of her ward. She enjoyed music and going for rides in the car. Barbara was a wonderful cook and cooked at Deer Cliff Inn for 22 years. She made excellent pies and it was always expected that she would bring pies to family get-togethers. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always loved a good joke and was known for her infectious laughter. She worked as a purchasing agent for Schreiber's in Smithfield for the last 15 years and truly enjoyed he r work. She also cherished her relationship with the Idaho Lions She was a wonderful mother and wife and will be greatly missed. Jenkins, Veretta Opal Gomm Veretta Opal Gomm Jenkins ENTERPRISE - Veretta Opal Gomm Jenkins, 69, beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at her home in Enterprise. Veretta was born October 23, 1935 in Osmond, Wyoming to Ben and Opal Allred Gomm. She married Clifton Wayne Jenkins January 27, 1957 in Mt. Emmons Utah. Veretta graduated from Altamont High School and also attended Utah State University. She lived and traveled extensively in Hawaii and the Orient with her husband who was in the military. Veretta owned and operated an individualized catering and decorating service for 17 years. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including 11 Years in the Relief Society presidency and 14 years in German Records Extraction. Surviving are her husband, Clifton of Enterprise, Utah, a son and daughter; David (Penny) Wayne Jenkins of North Ogden, Utah; Melissa (Kelly) J. Huntington of McKinney, Texas; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifton Dean Jenkins. Krambule, Paul Alton Paul Alton Krambule Paul Alton Krambule, a son of Leah Zemp Krambule and Rudolph Krambule, was born October 28, 1928 in Logan, Utah. He died peacefully, with family by his side, of heart failure on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in the Salt Lake LDS Hospital. The youngest of nine Children, Paul was raised in Logan's LDS 10th Ward, an area often referred to as "Little Berlin" because of the number of Swiss German families living there. After graduating from Logan High School in 1946, he served his country in the US Army, stationed in Japan with occupational forces. Paul married Darlene Coleman in Smithfield, Utah, on August 4, 1950 and was sealed to her in the Logan LDS Temple in 1951. They raised four children, a son and three daughters. Activities during his younger years included hunting and fishing. In mid to older years he enjoyed golfing (everywhere), fishing at the cabin in Alpine, Wyoming; and skiing (started at the age of 50). Paul started working for Parson Construction Company a s mechanic in 1953. He worked his way up through the company, retiring in 1993 as Vice President and General Manager of Jack B. Parson Company. He was an active member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club, where he served on the board of directors. Paul and Darlene resided in Mesquite, Nevada, during the winter months, returning to their home in Ogden for the summer to be close to family and friends. They had also lived in Logan and Perry, Utah. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years; a son Dar C. (Beth) Krambule, Portland, Oregon; Paula (Randall) Call, Salt Lake City; Susan (Randy) Robinett, Sandy; Kristy (Stephen) Wilvers, Desert Hills, Arizona; ten grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived by a brother, Don A. Krambule, Ogden. Longstroth, Margaret Margaret Longstroth OGDEN - Our family and community lost a true angel on April 25th with the passing away of Margaret Lucille Rawson Longstroth. It was the closing of a mortal life that was pure love and pure giving. Margaret was born November 7, 1920, in Ogden, Utah to Horace Edward Rawson and Ann Elizabeth Thomas. She married her sweetheart, Elmo Coburn Longstroth, on November 19, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom worked as waitress and manager at Exclusive Pharmacy. She was also a capable secretary at Family Finance. Mom's great career, however, was caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren and serving in her community. The joy of her life was caring for others. Cooking was her specialty and Sunday dinner at Mom's was the highlight of the week. Margaret was an active member of the Ogden 30th Ward. She was Ward Historian and kept photo accounts of all the activities. She was a talented homemaking leader and faithful Visiting Teacher. When Margaret was called as Relief Society President all the ward received her love- and a great many were also recipients of her wonderful chicken dinners. Margaret is survived by her three sons, Bruce E. (Cathy) of Sandy, Utah; Dennis Alan of Ogden, Utah; Randall Kent of Salt Lake City; also six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Margaret cared lovingly and tirelessly for her husband in the last years of his life when he was in failing health. She also tenderly cared for her sisters, Mary and LaVell, as their health also declined. She was preceded in death by her eternal sweetheart, Elmo; her parents; two brothers, Emery and Fred Rawson; her sisters, Mary Loretta Wood and Minnie LaVell Flowers. He was born September 22, 1920 in Muir, PA to Clyde Franklin Neyer and Ellen Rumberger Neyer. He married Alice Lucille Ritzman on June 23, 1952; she preceded him in death in 2002. Harry was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1946. He was a member of the American Baptist Church, where he was head of ushering, communion server and counselor to young couples. He is survived by nieces and nephews. Sharp, Charles Herbert Charles Herbert Sharp 1929 - 2005 Charles Herbert Sharp was born August 24, 1929 in Marlinton, W.Va. and died on April 26, 2005 of cancer at his home in Salt Lake City. He married Noma Harris in the Logan LDS Temple on Feb. 9th, 1951. He served in the United States Army and Retired from the United States Air Force. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and a Master of Education Degree from Utah State University. Charles taught Seminary for the LDS Church for 13 years and worked at the Church Office Building as a Purchasing Coordinator for the Church Education System, where he retired. He served in numerous positions in the LDS church and most recently enjoyed working for the past 15 years as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife Noma Harris Sharp, Salt Lake City; Four Children, Marta (Kenny) Heap, Star Valley, WY; Anota (Thomas) Morgan, Roosevelt, UT; Charles H. Sharp, II (Sandra), Brigham City, UT; Loyal H. Tremaine, Kae Jensen Kae Jensen Tremaine NORTH OGDEN - Kae Jensen Tremaine, 65, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005 at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. Kae was born July 2, 1939 in Ogden, a daughter of Kenneth A. Jensen and Mildred Liptrot Jensen. She was raised by her special grandmother - Elizabeth Ann Liptrot. She married William Ellery Tremaine on June 7, 1957 in Logan Temple Utah. Kae lived in North Ogden where she was raised and educated. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Kae had many callings and especially enjoyed her calling and working in the Young Woman's Presidency. She was a volunteer at her child's school as a Room Mother. She was employed at Volvo White and Weber County Schools. Kae's hobbies were skiing both water and snow, swimming, wildlife, working in her garden and doing yard work. She always carried a camera in her purse and she loved to take lots of pictures of her beloved family all the time. She especially enjoyed traveling, and spending time with her best friend and husband Bill. Surviving are her husband, "Bill"; her son, Todd William (Janice) Tremaine, No. Ogden, UT; three grandchildren, Jake, Chad, and Ty. Also surviving is her sister, Gail M. (David) Hester from Kentucky.
