Candia, 93, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, was taken home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2005. She was born September 8, 1911 in Taos, New Mexico to the late Benerando and Margarita Garcia. Mrs. Candia resided in Virginia with her daughter and granddaughter, Patricia and Nina Candia. Surviving are her daughters, Elsie Vigil, Ramona De Garmo, Perscilla Soto, Mary Ellen Luther, Barbara Nabor, Rosie Martinez, Patricia Candia, and her sons, Ricky Vigil, Leo Vigil, Mario Candia; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Candia; three brothers, and her three sons, Rubin Vigil, Johnny Candia and Willie Vigil. Cap, George William George William Cap - Col., U.S.A.F., Ret.December 18, 1918 July 26, 2005 LAYTON - George W. Cap passed away 26 July, 2005, at his home in Layton, UT. His son, Kelly William, was by his side. George was born December 18, 1918, Wilson, Kansas to William Paul Cap and Francis Mlquarek. He was raised on a farm and rode his pony to attend school in Lucas, Kansas. May 3, 1942, he married Phyllis Ruth Brown at the Evangelical United Methodist Chruch in Lucas, Kansas. They were married over 61 wonderful years. He entered the United States Army Air Corp in August, 1943, as an aviation cadet and Phyllis traveled extensively with him as he was transferred to many bases during his military career. George was a command pilot with more than 13,000 flying hours; of which, 1,175 were logged in combat. During the Korean Conflict, he flew fifty-six combat missions where his aircraft was hit on twenty-six different occassions; each time managing to bring his aircraft back safely. He spent 20 mont hs in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict where he commanded a Special Photo Reconnaissance Unit and the 13th Tactical Bombardment Squadron. While in Vietnam, George spent several days in the jungle with the First Infantry Division participating in a helicopter assault. Among his many assignments, George served as advisor to the Michigan Air National Guard and had a close look at Navy life when he was stationed with a U.S. Navy unit in San Diego, CA. where he served aboard a naval landing vessel. He was Vice-Commander of the 4609th Air Base Group at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan, and commander of the 4677th Defense Systems Evaluation Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Among his numerous awards, George has earned the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with 32 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star. George retired in 1973 to Layton, UT, along with his beloved wife Phyllis. They were blessed with an active thirty years enjoying their favorite pastimes of fishing, hunting, attending military reunions, and autocross racing. Both George and Phyllis were members of the Sports Car Club of America. He took great pride and enjoyment in building and racing his own cars and has many close friends in the SCCA Organization. George also restored show cars and has several national championships to his credit. George is survived by his son Kelly William of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law, Alice de Bord of Canton, Ohio; two nephews, Jerry (Vickie) Brown of Overland Park, Kansas and Timothy (Rosa) de Bord of Schererville, Indiana, and a niece Elizabeth (Robert) Donahue of Columbus, Ohio. A viewing for family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, August 3rd from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Eilander, Mary NORTH OGDEN - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, MaryLynn Erkelens Eilander, 57, passed away Friday, July 29, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1948 in Ogden, Utah to Leonard and Mary A. Strevay Erkelens. She married Rudy D. Eilander on July 12, 1968 in Ogden, Utah. Mary was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She retired from IRS in December of 2004 after 35 years of dedicated service. Mary was a wonderful wife and mother. She went out of her way to care for everyone she knew. Surviving are her husband, Rudy D. Eilander of No. Ogden; three sons, Kurt (LaZann) Eilander, Layton; Alan (Karen) Eilander, No. Ogden; and Eric Eilander; and three grandsons, Joseph, Daniel and Rivers. Also surviving are her mother, Mary Erkelens; and a sister-in-law, Jeanie Erkelens. She was preceded in death by a daughter Milissa Joy, a brother Leonard Paul Erkelens, and her father Leonard Erkelens. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 140 N. Tyler, with Rev. Dave Stellmon officiating. Evans, 68, of La Mesa, CA., and former Lava resident, passed away Wednesday July 13, 2005. He was born February 16, 1937 in Lava and moved to CA. in 1958. He and his father owned and operated the Village Hardware in Coronado, CA. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the San Diego Sheriffs Search and Rescue Equestrian Unit for years. He was loved by his family, friends, comboy hombres, coffee buddies, tenants and all who knew him. He loved to take his boat "Nuts and Bolts" out into the bay in his younger days. He loved to play as "Doc Holladay" in the many parades he rode in with his mare, Farah. He enjoyed the yearly vacation with beautiful wife, Marie. He also looked forward to his trips to Lava every June and October to reminisce with old friends, camp, hunt and enjoy the natural hot baths. He is survived by his wife, Marie Evans; daughters; Tamera L. (Merlin) Clark of West Haven, UT; Karen (Tony) Garrow of LaMesa; a son; Rich ard (Jovita) Evans of San Diego; and five grandchildren. Powell, Anna Marion SOUTH OGDEN - Anna Marion Powell, 82, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005, at her home. She was born September 12, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, to Dudley Ward and Elsie Aures Stone. She was a life long resident of Ogden, where she graduated from Ogden High School and went on to obtain her Master's Degree in Education from Utah State University. On March 29, 1944, Anna married John Frank Powell, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1976. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many leadership positions in the Sunday School and Relief Society. Anna taught school for 39 years. She loved children and they loved her. She was a member of the U.E.A., N.E.A., and The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was an avid reader, she loved to study and travel. She enjoyed sports, the outdoors and had a true love for animals. She was a care giver. Anna is survived by one daughter, Georgia Ann Garside, Ogde n; one son, Ward Anderson (Linda) Powell, Ogden; one grandson, Clayton Powell; one brother, George A. (Pat) Stone, Salt Lake City; one step-grandson; and three step-great-grandchildren. Taylor, Jean A. OGDEN - Jean A. Taylor, 68, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Ogden Regional Medical Center. She was born June 28, 1937, in Ogden, to Bert and Thelma Scofield Anderson. She was raised and educated in Ogden, where she graduated from Ogden High School. On May 21, 1966, Jean married Jerry Taylor, in Ogden. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jean loved bowling, fishing, the mountains, crocheting and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; three sons, Michael (Sondra) Donivan, Salt Lake City; Martin (Dawn) Donivan, Ogden; Jerry J. (Becky) Taylor, Ogden; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Wendy) Anderson, Ogden; Garry (Alice) Anderson, Layton; Darrell (Ilene) Anderson, Oregon; and Chuck Anderson, Oregon. Tsantes, Anne LAYTON - Anne Tsantes age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 29, 2005 after a long illness. She was born in Warren, OH December, 1920 the daughter of Michael and Sophia Foundoulis. She grew up during the depression but learned the true meaning of generosity during those times from her Greek immigrant parents. She married Terry Tsantes, also a Greek immigrant, in December, 1945 when he returned from military service. She worked most of her adult life as a secretary for Sears Roebuck in Warren, OH and Philadelphia, PA. Anne was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. She was a life long member of the Daughters of Penelope and Pan Icarian Brotherhood. She is survived by her son Frank (Ann) Tsantes of Layton; grandchildren, Andrea (John) Dosier, Jerrod (Olga) Cheney, Megan (T.J.) Turner and Melanie (Jeremy) Barnum; and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Nikita, Tanya, Abby and Natasha. She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers Nick Binikos and Jack Foundoulis. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. August 3, 2005 at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration, 674 42nd Street Ogden, UT.
