Franklin was born the second son of David James and Eleanor (Helena) Ayrton on December 10, 1916 in Salt Lake City, UT. He married Virginia Edith Julian on April 28, 1941. The marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles, CA Temple of the LDS church. Franklin was a man of great spiritual strength and faith and had served his Church in many capabilities in California, Illinois, and lastly, in Utah. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific. Franklin spent almost his entire working career with United Airlines. Activities associated with the outdoors were a source of much pleasure to him and he was an ardent student of history, particularly of the Civil War and early LDS Church history, Later in his life he took an inter est in gardening and was the founding president of the Davis County Master Gardeners Association. Franklin attended public schools in Salt Lake City, and later attended Golden Gate College in San Francisco, CA. His broad circle of family and friends extends from 150 West Longitude to 15 degrees East Longitude, and between the 35th South Parallel and the 52nd North Parallel. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William, and his wife Virginia. He is survived by his son, David Earl Ayrton (Joyce), five grandchildren, JoAnn Lane (Todd), April Fausett (Rob), Michelle Chatwin (Andrew), Kyle Ayrton (Jennifer). Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Oak Forest 1st Ward Chapel, 2250 East 2300 North, Layton, UT. Beeler, Alfred OGDEN - Alfred William "Bill" Beeler, 89, died Saturday, July 30, 2005 at his home. He was born September 19, 1915 in Durango, Colorado, a son of Thomas Paul and Rose May Wilden Beeler. He moved from Colorado in 1925 and traveled with his family until they settled in Utah in September of 1927. He was a graduate of Ogden High School. On March 25, 1939, Alfred married Mildred Koning in Ogden. They were happily married for 66 years and his highest priority was his family that he loved so very much. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ogden 48th Ward. Alfred served with the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in D-Day and the Normandy Beach Battle. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for many years as an aircraft sheet metal worker. Alfred was a member of the High Roller RV Club, Good Sam RV Club, and the Eagles and Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Alfred and Mildred traveled in their RV to many places includin g Flaming Gorge, Strawberry Reservoir and Mexico. They spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona. Surviving are his wife, Mildred, of Ogden; one son and one daughter, Jack (Connie) Beeler and Cherie Rasmussen, both of Ogden; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Vernon R. Beeler. Preceding him in death were two granddaughters, Michelle Beeler Rogers and Misty Rasmussen, and two sisters, Thelma Pettingill and Kathrine Hollaway. Boynton, Vaughn Colonel Vaughn Elliott Boynton died peacefully on Friday, July 29, 2005 of Alzheimer's disease in Jackson, California at the age of 93 years. He was born April 24, 1912 to George and Edith Boynton in Bangor, Maine. He lived in the Ogden, Utah area fo 25 years. Colonel Boynton was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during WW II and the Korean War. A private family service was held Tuesday, August 2. Inurnment was in the Garden of Valor at Sunset View Cemetery in Jackson. Family and friends are asked to honor Colonel Boynton's memory through thoughts and prayers for our military in Iraq and throughout the world. Brown passed away July 30, 2005 of natural causes incident to age. He was born Sept. 25, 1909 in Ogden to Richard D. Brown and Emily Schofield. He graduated from Weber High School. He was active in track and field events. He was married to Mamie L. Davies for 25 years. They were divorced. He later married Blanche Farley in 1956 in Las Vegas, NV and they were later sealed in 1980 in the Los Angeles Temple. He worked as a carpenter for the Southern Pacific Railroad, and worked to build the navy supply depot in Clearfield. He attended Weber College and learned to weld; he later became a refrigeration engineer. Dad worked for Utah Ice and Storage, then for Paramount Ice Cream and Dairy before moving to El Monte, CA, where he was employed by Foremost Dairy and Safeway as a refrigeration engineer until retirement. He moved to Ellensberg, WA, where he and his wife enjoyed a wonderful retirement. They spent many hours working in the Seattle Temple which they e njoyed. They also enjoyed going to the mountains for firewood, hiking and enjoying nature. Dad will be remembered for his work ethic and his love to hunt and fish. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters, and his wife of 46 years. He is survived by three sons and five daughters: Ronald (Ruth) Brown, Ogden; Leon (Sandy) Brown, St. George; Alan (Sandy) Anderson of Alhambra, CA; Charlene (Jay) Thornton Wells, NV; Marian (Jim) Wheeler, Bountiful; Irene Davis, Salt Lake City; JeNiel (Bob) Larsen, Fiji Islands Mission; Beverly (Ron) Purser, Ogden. Ellis, John Browning 1915 - 2005 John Browning Ellis died in Scottsdale, Arizona, on July 13, 2005. John was born January 8, 1915 in Ogden, Utah. John spent much of his childhood in England and was educated at Cambridge University. He moved to Phoenix in 1948 and then spent his last years in Scottsdale. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years "Pudgy," his wife of 19 years Delys, his sister Mariam Hintze, his brother Frank, and his beloved daughters Holley and Victoria. John is survived by his sister Telitha (and John) Lindquist, grandsons Drew Sidell and Chance Spannagel, many nieces and nephews, and loving companion Peggy Moore. Higgs, Karan Butson Karan Butson Higgs She Exemplified Courage and Grace Karan Butson Higgs, our loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father on July 29th, 2005, due to complications of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. She will be His special angel. Karan was born June 2nd, 1938 in Ogden to Eldred and Jesse Butson, the younger of two daughters. She married Edward (Ted) Higgs in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4th, 1959, and they were blessed with seven precious children. Their marriage and family are for eternity. When Karan was twelve, her family moved to Roy, where she attended junior high school. She graduated from Weber High School, and earned an Associates Degree at Weber College. Karan's illnesses were complicated by a spinal cord injury in 2001, which resulted in bed confinement, but she never complained. Karan is an admirable example of personal courage and grace. She was a faithful member of the LDS faith, with a strong testimony of the gospel. She loved her Heaven ly Father deeply. Karan was a lifelong stay-at-home Mom, and the epitome of kindness and intense honesty. She showed genuine love and compassion for everyone, especially her family and friends. To know her was to love her. Karan is remembered as a patient Mom, a kind neighbor, and a loyal friend. She touched many lives with her kindness and friendliness and giving spirit. She loved to send loving cards to those she loved. Karan loved her family, second only to the Lord. She is now temporarily leaving behind her husband (Ted) and seven children, Layne, Kenny, Karan Marie, David, Bryce, Christine (Karl) and Mark, plus three precious grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, and Jason. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and two nieces. Special thanks to the South Davis Community Hospice, the Alliance Hospice, and the Inspiration Hospice nurses, and to our many friends and neighbors who have been so supportive and kind. Karan was laid to rest on Monday, August 1st, 2005 at Leavitt's Aultorest Mausoleum, 836 36th Street in Ogden. Karan asked that all her friends remember her by doing what she loved to do, that is, to make a new friend today. She asks that any donations be made to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research. Due to mistakes made that are beyond the family's control, this obituary did not run in the Salt Lake Tribune, nor in its entirety in the Ogden Standard Examiner, on Sunday, July 31st as the family intended. He was born October 15, 1926 in Brigham City, Utah to George Anthony and Lola Nielson. Junior married Diane Reese on June 14, 1949 in the Logan Temple. He and his family owned and operated George A. Nielson and Sons, a fruit farm in Perry Utah. He attended Box Elder High School. After graduation he attended and played football at the University of Utah. Junior joined the Navy after his sophomore year, where he served in the South Pacific. After returning home he attended Utah State University where he graduated in Horticulture. He enjoyed photography and was an avid University of Utah football fan. He is survived by his wife, Diane, Children; Jill Vanderwood, Brigham City, Kent and Julie Nielson, Brigham City, Lori and Kevin Kidd, Roy, Nancy & John Sale, Perry. He has 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Powell, Anna Marion SOUTH OGDEN - Anna Marion Powell, 82, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005, at her home. She was born September 12, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, to Dudley Ward and Elsie Aures Stone. She was a life long resident of Ogden, where she graduated from Ogden High School and went on to obtain her Master's Degree in Education from Utah State University. On March 29, 1944, Anna married John Frank Powell, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on August 3, 1976. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many leadership positions in the Sunday School and Relief Society. Anna taught school for 39 years. She loved children and they loved her. She was a member of the U.E.A., N.E.A., and The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was an avid reader, she loved to study and travel. She enjoyed sports, the outdoors and had a true love for animals. She was a care giver. Anna is survived by one daughter, Georgia Ann Garside, Ogde n; one son, Ward Anderson (Linda) Powell, Ogden; one grandson, Clayton Powell; one brother, George A. (Pat) Stone, Salt Lake City; one step-grandson; and three step-great-grandchildren. Rankin, Edythe M. OGDEN - Edythe Marie Cheese Rankin, 88, died peacefully at McKay-Dee Hospital on Sunday, July 31, 2005. Edythe was born August 21, 1916 in Evanston, Wyoming, the first child and daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Cheese. Edythe attended school and graduated from Evanston High School in 1934. She attended Creighton University where she began her training to become a registered nurse. Edythe loved being a nurse and completed her degree at Weber State College in Ogden in 1957. She married William Earl Rankin on March 4, 1940 in Kemmerer, Wyoming. To this union was born one daughter, Judy. Earl passed away July 17, 1978. Edythe was a member of the First United Methodist Church She was associated with the Ogden Eagles Auxiliary #2472 and was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter #4. She was a former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Fine Arts Club of Evanston, Wyoming, Soroptimist International of Ogden, and a former member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha. Edythe loved to go to the mall. She also loved her nursing career and traveling. Surviving are her daughter, Judy (Eldon) Martin, Lyman, WY; four grandchildren, Todd (Audrie) Martin, Henefer, UT; Chad (Laurie) Martin, Lyman, WY; Lisa (Jim) Harrell, Evanston, WY; Daren (Angie) Martin, Green River, WY; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Clarence (Lillian) Cheese, Laguna Woods, CA; Dorathy (Denny) Coles, Ogden. She was raised and educated in Ogden, where she graduated from Ogden High School. On May 21, 1966, Jean married Jerry Taylor, in Ogden. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jean loved bowling, fishing, the mountains, crocheting and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; three sons, Michael (Sondra) Donivan, Salt Lake City; Martin (Dawn) Donivan, Ogden; Jerry J. (Becky) Taylor, Ogden; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Wendy) Anderson, Ogden; Garry (Alice) Anderson, Layton; Darrell (Ilene) Anderson, Oregon; and Chuck Anderson, Oregon.
