She was surrounded in love by all her children, grandchildren, friends and family. Janice was born September 22, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lyman Edgar Becker and Hilda Marie Kasten. There, Janice was raised and received her education. She has one brother, Dennis Becker, and three sisters, Joan Boehm, Kathleen Wehrhahn, and Doris Durffee. Janice attended Brigham Young University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. One week after her graduation she married Jack Jr. Alberts. Janice spent her professional career as an RN working at the Dee Hospital, the McKay-Dee Hospital, the Weber County Hospital, and retired after working for many years at the Weber Human Services Division. She enjoyed working with and helping other people . Janice and Jack were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS temple on June 12, 1959. They were blessed with four children, John, Michelle, Diane, Lynette and a Lamanite daughter, Charlene Begay Tyler. Each of the children are now married and raising their families. Janice and Jack have 11 grandchildren. She loved her children and enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, having sleepovers, attending ball games, recitals and school functions. Janice was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When she was 17 years old she received a 5-year pin for teaching Primary. She served as teacher in Primary, Sunday School, Young Women and Relief Society. She was the Ward Chorister for many years; served as Relief Society president; and has been very involved in Family History as the Ward Family History Specialist as well as working on her own. Janice is remembered as a patient mom, a kind neighbor and a loyal friend. She touched countless live s with her kindness, friendliness, and giving spirit. She is temporarily leaving behind her husband Jack and four children, John (Kaylee) Alberts, Michelle (Keith) Pitchford, Diane (Todd) Bliss, and Lynette (Francisco) Quezada; 11 grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Andrea, Katelyn, Keegan, Hunter, Kylee, Daniel, Emily, Camilla and David; her brother Dennis, and sisters, Joan, Kathleen and Doris. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. A viewing will be held Thursday, August 4th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary located at 5865 S. 1900 W. in Roy. Bell Jr., Veldon Ernest Veldon Ernest Bell, Jr. MORGAN - Our loving husband, father, and grandfather Veldon Bell, Jr., 68, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2005. He was born August 22, 1936, in East Los Angeles, California, son of Veldon, Sr. and Margery Hilton Bell. Veldon married his sweetheart, Janet Brinkman May 16, 1964. They were the proud parents of two children, Dave and Jenny. Veldon graduated from the University of Utah and worked as an engineer at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years before retiring in 1992. Veldon enjoyed all of the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He especially enjoyed his trips to Grey's River He was a very special husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his loving wife, Janet, who helped him with his fight against diabetes; his children: Dave (Lynette) Bell and Jenny (Karl) Fry; and six grandchildren: Sarah, Ace, Colton, Justin, Jared, and Lindsey. She was born January 29, 1935 in Salt Lake City to Rasmus K. and Zula Jensen Nelson. She married LaVere Bud Arlie Campbell on June 5, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Beth was a member of the North Ogden Civic League, and had been an election judge. She was also a member of the North Ogden 21st Ward. She served in the Relief Society presidency, worked in the Young Women's organization and was a visiting teacher. Surviving are her husband, LaVere Bud A. Campbell; two daughters and one son, Colynn (Jack) Hamilton, Colorado Springs, CO; CindyAnn (Clair) Madsen, Riverton, UT; Neil A. Colvin, May Roberts Florek May Roberts Florek Colvin MA OGDEN - May Colvin passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 2, 2005, following a short illness. She was born in Ogden, Utah on May 24, 1920 to Emil and Pauline Balmas Roberts, the third of five children. She married James Florek in 1943. They were later divorced. She married Alfred Orson Colvin on June 9, 1948. He passed away on December 31, 1974. She was a hard worker. She worked side by side with her father on the family farm and always took care of her own yard and house. She enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with her husband Orson and her sons. She is survived by her son, BJ (Karren) Florek, Ogden; stepson, James E (Jean) Colvin, Farr West; two grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, 28 step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Henrietta Compton, Ogden; and brother Emil James (Linda) Roberts, Sharon, Idaho. Gibson passed away July 29, 2005, two days after his 88th birthday. He was born July 27, 1917 in Ogden, UT. A son of Alfred and Jen Mae Shupe Gibson. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Bell on March 13, 1941. They had two sons, Gary ( Dixie) Gibson, South Ogden and Brent (Sandy) Gibson, Riverdale. He worked for O.U.R. & D and Union Pacific Railroad. He retired after 41 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and gardening.He is survived by his wife, sons, five grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Halling, Lars Jay Lars Jay Halling, age 79, of Brigham City, Utah died on Tuesday, August, 2, 2005 at Holladay Healthcare Center in Holladay, UT. He was born February 27, 1926, the youngest of 11 children, to Helaman Cannon Halling and Leona M. Johnson. He married Elsa Mae Hansen in the Logan Temple, Logan, UT on June 6, 1957. Lars Jay attended school in Mantua and Brigham City, UT. During WWII he served in the Air Force in Guam, and the Army in Italy. He retired from Defense Depot Ogden in 1974. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various Priesthood callings throughout his life. Surviving are his wife, Elsa Mae Halling, West Valley City; three daughters, Leona Jalene Crosthwait, Brigham City; Shauna (Don) DeMarco, Brigham City; and Rochelle Halling, West Valley, UT, three grandsons, Charles Dean Crosthwait, Jay Don Crosthwait and Michael Joseph DeMarco. Lyons 73, of Layton died August 2, 2005 at his home after a valiant struggle with lung and heart problems. He was born September 25, 1931 in Provo, Utah to Arthur Melvin Lyons and Violet Victoria Chapman. He married Helen Jean Kirk of Randallstown, Maryland, December 13, 1949. They had 52 years together before Helen died June 9, 2002. Mac served in the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War where he received among other awards, the Purple Heart. After an honorable discharge, he worked at Hill Air Force Base as a general machinist for 35 years before retiring in 1986. He was always active doing projects with his hands. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. Mac was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, Helen Gustin. He is survived by two sons and two daughters: John (Nadine), Layton; Violet, Washington Terrace; Lynn, Washington Terrace; and Shane, Bountiful; six grandchildren: Christopher, Lauralee, Nashaela, Crystal, Janae (Brice) Lundell, and Marcinda (Fredrick) Drysdale, and four great-grandchildren: Douglas, Elizabeth, Brandon, and Joseph. Wood, John Coulam John Coulam Wood June 23, 1914 - August 1, 2005 SOUTH OGDEN - John Coulam Wood died Monday, August 1, 2005 at his home in South Ogden. Honored at the time of his death for his many virtues: an affectionate father and sincere friend, his uprightness and integrity, firm and unshrinking in the cause of God - a true Latter-day Saint. Born in Salt Lake City to Ellen Wray "Nell" Coulam and Arthur John Wood, he grew up with his siblings in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School, attended the University of Utah School of Engineering and served a German-Austrian Mission. Married to his sweetheart, Kathryn Williams, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 4, 1939, "She has been the light of my life ever since." John attended Columbia University School of Architecture in New York City and during the Second World War he was employed as a junior structural engineer for Tennessee Valley Authority where 13 dams were constructed. He graduated from the University of Utah School of Architectu re and worked for more than 40 years as an associate architect and engineer with various professional firms: Case, Lowe & Hart and Keith W. Wilcox & Associates in Ogden, Lowell Parrish and Ashton, Evans & Brazier in Salt Lake City. Among the buildings he was proud to be associated with in SLC are the Kennecott Building, the Federal Reserve Bank Building, the Bennion Education Building and Clayton Junior High School. In Ogden: the Federal Court House/Federal Building, Weber State University Fine Arts Building, Weber Heights Stake Center, and David O. McKay Hospital. He loved spending time at his summer home overlooking Bear Lake, which he designed and built. John was instrumental in organizing the first branch of the LDS Church in Knoxville, Tennessee where he served as the first branch president. He also served in two bishoprics in Utah and with his wife he served for five years at the Ogden LDS Temple and a mission at the Family Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City. He was a volunteer "Scouter" for most of his adult life, receiving numerous awards and honors including the Bonneville Council Award of Merit for Outstanding Service to Boyhood, and the National Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Boyhood. The number of scouts to achieve the rank of Eagle under his leadership is too numerous to count. John was a life member of The Sons of the Utah Pioneers as well as Sugarhouse Chapter President. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of him: "I never saw my grandfather without a book in his hands"; "He loved to eat and must have had a hollow leg"; "He was a dapper gentleman - always meticulous in his dress"; "He was quiet and steadfast in his support for the things he cared about." John is survived by his wife Kathryn; his children Rae Ann (Brent) Harrison, Denver, CO; John W. Wood, Oakland, CA; Craig W. (Debbie) Wood, Tucson, AZ; Linda Kaye (Alan) Wiese, Ogden, UT; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren in Colorado, California, Arizona a nd Utah.
