She will be greatly missed by all of those who knew her. She was born on Nov 19, 1918, to William Price Roderick and Mary Jane Myler in Pauline Power, Idaho, now known as Oneida County, Idaho. On March 22 1944 she married Harvey Willis Ashton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised their family in Ogden, Utah. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in various positions including Primary President, Spiritual Living Teacher, Visiting Teacher Leader. She was the most kind, loving and gentle person: one without guile. Her life exemplified service and love for her family, church and community. She was also passionate about Family History, temple work, scripture study and playing her organ. She cherished her children and grandchildren, who will love and miss her forever.. She is survived by one son, Robert and wife Marie Ashton, San Ramon, California, three daughters: Shelba & husband Richard Rich of West Haven, Mary & husband Bill Settlemire of Ogden, Rosalie Ashton of Salt Lake, 15 Grandchildren and 31 Great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters Thora Ann Hess, Sandy, Utah and Velma Ipsen, Pleasantview, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her sweetheart Harvey W. Ashton, son, Harvey Boyd Ashton, her parents & sister Myrtle Roderick. We would like to extend a special message of gratitude to staff at Peachtree Place, Pineview Rehab and Dr Kelson for the dedicated service and compassion they provided to mom during her last few weeks here on this earth. Becka Miller Tuesday, August 23, 2005 MANTUA - Our loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother and sister, Rebecca (Becka) Wilson Miller passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at her home in Mantua after a five year battle with Breast Cancer. She was born on April 25, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Clarence Marcele Wilson Jr. and Carol Ann Poulsen. Becka married Dennis W. Miller on November 20, 1973 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She served in various positions on the Stake and Ward levels, which included the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Becka worked at the Brigham City Nursing and Rehab Center for nearly 12 years working as a CNA, Medical Records and the last eight years as the Director for the Special Needs Unit. Becka retired on Thursday, August 18, 2005. She was the first women volunteer for the Mantua Volunteer Fire Department and also volunteered as an EMT. She also co-chaired for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life - Survivor Reception. Becka loved to serve all those who needed help. Becka loved to be with her family and going camping, hiking, and four wheeling. She enjoyed crocheting and painting and she loved music. Surviving are her husband, Dennis of Mantua; four children, Ann Michelle Miller of Salt Lake City; David (Brittney) Miller, Jessica (Brandon) Young both of Layton; Kati (Brad) Baxter of Mantua; two grandchildren, Hyrum and Emma. Also surviving are her mother, Carol Ann Wilson of Lindon; seven brothers, Clarence III (Rose); Keven (Karen); Lonnie (Amanda); Quentin (Sheryl); Jeff (Annette); Dennis (Valeri); Garth (Andrea). Interment will be in the Mantua Cemetery. James Dale Hess Tuesday, August 23, 2005 1924 - 2005 James Dale Hess, died August 20, 2005, peacefully in his sleep. Born November 24, 1924 in Farmington, Utah to David Willard and Elvira Nielsen. Graduated from Davis High School in 1943. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a civilian for 32 years at Hill Air Force Base and 12 years at Oakridge Country Club. Married Lois Mae Holbrook on February 14, 1947, which was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. He enjoyed his 1976 Goldwing motorcycle, traveling throughout the Western United States and Canada. He enjoyed golf, family and grandkids. Went on an LDS mission to Adelaide, Australia. Ordinance worker for Bountiful and Ogden temples. Survived by his wife and children, Janet (Donald) Carr, Linda (Robert) Hudson, Shirley (Keith) Mayo, Nancy (Danny) Gotschall, Donna (Jon) Blonquist; sisters, Nina Page, Anna Lou (Fred) Scholes, Helen (Lee) Eatchel; brother, Neal (Mae) Hess; 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Leona Boal Tuesday, August 23, 2005 OGDEN - Our loving sister and aunt, Katherine Leona Nicholas Boal, joined her heavenly family on Saturday, August 20, 2005, for a great reunion with her son and family. She was born July 15, 1925 in Ogden, the third of six children of Leon Oscar and Margaret Elizabeth Compton Nicholas. She was raised in West Weber and was a graduate of Weber High School Class of 1943. She lived in the Ogden area for 45 years. She had one son, Gregory Foss Robinson on October 4, 1946. In 1972, Leona married Allan E. Boal in Monterey, California. They moved to Glendale, California where she lived until August of this year. She was in the process of moving to Riverdale. Leona was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LaCanda Ward. She worked in the accounting field. Leona was very active in fund raising for several childrens organizations in the Los Angeles, California area. She also supported many missionaries throughout the years. She was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, California and the Chaparral Country Club in Palm Desert, California. Leona was a very talented lady who loved beautiful things which she brought back from her world travels visiting many countries and cultures. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, entertaining and her homes in Glendale and Palm Desert. Surviving are sisters, Emma Taylor, JoAnn (Richard) Miller and brother, Leon (Rose Mary) Nicholas,; special nieces and nephews, Clara Singleton, Pat (Glen) Budge, Kurt Anderson, Michael Miller, Vikki Miller, Scott Miller, Ric and Ricki Miller and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her son, Greg, her husband Allan, parents, brothers, Edwin and Kenneth, and nephew, Robert Singleton. Hill Tuesday, August 23, 2005 OGDEN - Carl G. Hill, 82, died of cancer, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Garland, Utah, to Joseph Vernal and Christena Hill. Besides Garland, he lived in Clear Creek, Utah and homesteaded his beloved farm in Powell, Wyo. in 1949. He moved to Ogden in 1991 and married Helen Cornfeld. A veteran of WWII, Carl served with the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and saw action in the Philippines. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Wanetta Dill, and their son David, Carl's parents, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife Helen, two sons, two daughters, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, seven brothers and three sisters. Topping passed away at a local nursing home on Sunday, August 21, 2005. Martha was born in Ogden, Utah on November 1, 1915 to Henry Sr. and Helen Drysdale Topping. She was the youngest of nine children born into a very close and loving family. She attended Lorin Farr School for a few years, but because of a heart ailment she was unable to finish her education. Martha had a great love for animals and over the years she adopted many dogs and cats and gave them a loving home. She is survived by her sister, Florence (Douglas) Davis of Helena, Montana and Helen and Richard Brown of Ogden, a niece and nephew who were like a son and daughter to her. Bessie L. Swink Tuesday, August 23, 2005 CLINTON - Bessie Louise Swink, 72, died Friday, August 19, 2005 at her home of congestive heart failure. She was born August 12, 1933 in Ogden, a daughter of Parley A. and Elizabeth Perry Blodgett. On May 12, 1961, Bessie married Norman Swink in Ogden. Norman preceded her in death in June of 1997. She lived in North Ogden for 49 years and the remainder of her life in Clinton. Bessie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked as a supply clerk at Hill Air Force Base for many years. She enjoyed cosmetology, ballet, sewing and crafts. Bessie had the opportunity of visiting Hawaii and enjoyed it very much. When she was younger, she was president of the Liberace Fan Club. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Michael Swink, Layton; Patrick Swink, Clinton; Norma Swink, Clearfield; and five grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Virginia East, Farr West. Emma Hope Cottom Christensen Tuesday, August 23, 2005 Nov. 6, 1916 - Aug. 16, 2005 LAYTON- An angel was called home to her Father in Heaven, where her beloved husband, Jim, parents, William and Emma Elizabeth Ockey Cottom, two sisters, Zelma and Ona, and a brother, Warlo, waited with open arms to greet her. While the heavens wept with joy, those left behind wept with sorrow as she will be greatly missed. She passed away peacefully at the wonderful and loving Country Gardens Home in Layton. To all of you, a big thanks, and may God bless you all. She was born in Nephi, Utah, lived most of her young life in Richfield, and moved to Park City at the age of 12. She moved to Salt Lake City, where she worked for the Utah State Tax Commission until she retired. Seven years ago she moved to Layton. Florence Utley Tuesday, August 23, 2005 MINNEAPOLIS - Florence Violet Utley, 95, died on Tuesday, August 16th, 2005 at the Saint Therese Nursing Home, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was born on November 24th, 1909, in Hull, England a daughter of George Alfred Bridger and Florence Mary Latus. On December 24th, 1931 she married George Utley in Hull England. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She lived in Hull, England until her emigration to Ogden, Utah in March, 1950. She was a seamstress and worked in men's retail stores in Ogden until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of the Ogden deaf branch and served as Relief Society President, home teacher and was a temple worker. Surviving are one son and one daughter, Brian George Utley, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Janet F. Perry, Phoenix, Arizona;13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George Utley and a daughter, Margaret Ann Carlsen. Judith "Judy" Ann Smith Tuesday, August 23, 2005 LAYTON - Judith Ann Smith, 66, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones, on August 18, 2005 following a hard battle with cancer. Judith was born March 18, 1939 to Jacob and Mildred Selzle. She married Robert E. Kenley in 1955, later divorced. In 1967, she married David Lenn Sandall who passed away in 1994. She later married Darrell Smith in 2001. Together they shared four years of love, happiness and companionship. Judith enjoyed traveling, golfing and playing cards with her friends. Yet her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Judith was loving, caring, and would offer a helping hand to everyone. Judith is survived by her husband Darrell, her son Rick (Cindy) Kenley, her grandchildren Alicia Kenley and Austin Kenley and step-daughter, Stacie Smith. Joseph Nicholas Santarelli Tuesday, August 23, 2005 ROY--Joseph Nicholas Santarelli, 93, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. He was born July 20, 1912 in Denver, Colorado, a son of Pasco and Raffaella DeMichele Santarelli. He married Leah Schofield on July 27, 1947 in Elko, Nevada. Leah died on August 13, 1973. Joseph was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1932. He worked with the Bureau of Public Roads assisting in the construction of the Al-Can Highway in Alaska, after which, he joined the US Navy as a gunnery instructor. Following WWII, he joined the Utah General Depot where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement. He then operated the Utah Tavern, which he inherited from his father, Pasco. His interests included an occasional round of golf, a hobby he began as a youth caddying at the Ogden Country Club and he also enjoyed bowling. Surviving are his children, Joseph Lee Santarelli, Roy; Beverly Jean Schwenk, Costa Mesa, CA; Donna R. Phipps, Redondo Beach, CA; Lois Jean Blacketer, San Antonio, TX; E. Jeri Dixon, Ogden; Dennis Phipps, Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are his siblings, Adelina Paoli, Elko, NV; Ernestine Nielson, Ogden; Teresa Kartchner, Plain City; Mary Feasel, Elko, NV; Angie (James) Jensen, Boise, ID; Angelo Santarelli, Ogden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Martha Santarelli and his friend Martha (Rudie) Chapman, who was his constant companion after his wife's passing. V. Greg Workman Tuesday, August 23, 2005 RIVERDALE - The world lost a big man with a huge heart unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Victor Greg Workman was born March 28, 1956 to Victor Vernon and Bernice Field Workman in Ogden, Utah. Greg married Laura Lee Denninger Gibson on May 31, 1986. They were later divorced. He married MaryAnn Greenhalgh on April 25, 1998. Greg was educated in Ogden and Salt Lake City. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1974 and attended the University of Utah. Greg worked as a cab driver in the Ogden area for several years. He worked as an armed security guard for IRS and Davis Security for the last 25 years. Greg never met anyone he didn't love. His wife and family meant everything to him. He was a loyal fan of the 49ers, Yankees and Utah Jazz. He was an avid history buff who loved America. He loved to read and always said "When you have a book, you are never alone. You're always on an adventure". Greg is survived by his beloved wife MaryAnn, three sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, many friends and his cats Bubitt and Nuisance. Greg will be reunited with his parents, an infant brother Richard Vernon and his mother-in-law. He was proud to be an organ donor. Emma Thomas Hamblin Tuesday, August 23, 2005 "1922-2005" Ogden- Our loving mother, Emma Thomas Hamblin, age 82, passed away August 20, 2005, in Ogden, Utah. Emma was born September 5, 1922, in Richmond, Utah to Samuel Fairy Thomas and Mary Alice Stoddard. Graduating from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah, she enjoyed dancing, singing and playing the French horn. Emma married David Don Hamblin on August 7, 1942, in Preston, Idaho. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, David Don Hamblin and her two sons, David T. Hamblin, Jed D. Hamblin and one granddaughter, Nicole Heslop. Also survived by her children, Karen and Dave Shipley, JoAnn and Stephen Harris, Michael Don Hamblin, Janet Heslop, Gwen and Michael Hall, Colene Hamblin, and Bob and Kathy Hamblin. She is also survived by her twin sister, Agnes Dimas, her sister, Gayle Bailey, (Keith), and her brother Martin Duane Thomas, (Jean). Emma cherished her 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She dedicated her life to her family and continued to give love and service to all those around her. Her favorite pastimes were working in her beautiful yard and making keepsake quilts for her children and grandchildren. We will miss her humor, feistiness, her loving smile and the twinkle in her eye. Braison Coe Hullinger Tuesday, August 23, 2005 St. George, UT - Our loving son, brother and grandson returned to his Heavenly Father on August 19, 2005. He was born October 11, 1994 in St. George, UT, son of Clayton and Julie Christensen Hullinger. Braison was so loved by his family and friends and all those who knew him. He had a soft heart and compassion for everyone. Braison was a 5th grader at Panorama Elementary. He loved his friends and was with them at the time of his death. He has always been adventurous and loved the outdoors. He was an avid wake boarder and snow boarder, enjoying all sports and was looking forward to playing tackle football this year. He loved his Heavenly Father and was looking forward to becoming a new Scout in October. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him and especially his family. Logen Dunford Tuesday, August 23, 2005 SYRACUSE - Our sweet little Logen arrived on August 19, 2005, just a quick two minutes after his big brother. After beating all the odds to get here and fighting so hard, he could only stay a short six hours, long enough to meet his Mom and Dad, brother and sisters, and his Grandparents. We were lucky enough to say hello and blessed enough to be able to hold and kiss him and then say goodbye as he peacefully returned to Heavenly Father. While our hearts are aching, we know that he is ours forever, and Logen we are truly privileged to have enjoyed your little soul through a tough pregnancy for you and your brother and your brief moment here. You are forever in our hearts if not in our arms. Logen is survived by his twin brother, Cole; big brother, Ian; and big sisters, Sara and Aislynn. He is also survived by his Dad and Mom, Chad and Leanne Dunford; his Grandparents, Lynn and Kay Manhart, and Mundi and Lois Pedersen; many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins; and two Great-Grandmas, Helen Dunford and Jean Laws. Georgia Clasen Tuesday, August 23, 2005 SLATERVILLE - Georgia Clasen, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, left us suddenly from a stroke surrounded by her family. She returned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 20, 2005. She was born August 17, 1943 in Orange, California to George and Dorothy Henkel. She loved spending time with family and friends, her dogs, and her rose garden. She had a real soft spot for all animals. Antiques were Georgia's special talent; she and Joann Perruca started Acorn Antique Shows and she worked at Abby's Antiques. She leaves behind her husband Wayne; daughters Heather Champion and Heidi (Robert) Wilcock; sisters Andrea (Gary) Patz and Jan (Greg) Clary and their families; brother-in-law Milton Clasen and family; her special grandchildren Broc, Cassie, Chase, Zack and Noah; aunt Darlene Johnson and family; uncle Darrel (Fern) Davis and extended family; numerous friends and special best friends Rosan Reidl and Barbra Creze. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1105 N. Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. At Georgia's request, cremation by Myers Mortuary in Ogden.
