He was born March 6, 1935 in Billings, Montana to Frank R. and Anne Swager Fenwick. He married Cheryl Lee Dripps on June 26, 1970 in Ogden; she preceded him in death on October 1, 2004. Walter was a member of NUPA and GPAA. He was an avid gold prospector and loved visiting with friends. The best time of his life was at the family reunion in July. Surviving are his children, Joelle Lewis, Ogden; David Fenwick; and two grandchildren, David Lewis and Dillon Fenwick. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, Donald (Marla) Fenwick of California; Phillip (Marlene) Fenwick of Minnesota; and Agnes Schilling of Montana. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers Bill and David, and grandson Armondo Bernal. Cremation under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Ogden. Christopher F. Quintana Monday, August 29, 2005 OGDEN- Christopher F. Quintana, 56, died Wednesday, August 24, 2005. He was born May 9, 1949 in Ogden, to Ray C. and Martha E. Quintana (Martinez). Chris was employed for over 20 years as a welder/fitter, but was most recently employed with Ogden City Corp. He loved sports, particularly baseball and boxing. He was a member of the Marshall White Center Hepcats Boxing Club in his teens. Chris was also an avid hunter and fisherman, accompanied most often by his pride and joy....his grandchildren, Natalie, Decker, Brian, and Cache. Surviving are one son, Christopher A. Quintana (Tiffany), Huntsville; and two daughters Kimberly M. Quintana and Jacqueline R. Quintana of Ogden. Also surviving are two brothers Ramon T. (Bonnie) and LeeRoy (Margaret) Quintana; and two sisters Cindy Quintana and Linda (Kevin) O'Donnell. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 514 24th St., Ogden. Gordon Gurr Monday, August 29, 2005 KAYSVILLE -- Gordon Gurr, born May 22, 1920 in Salt Lake City, passed peacefully surrounded by his family, Friday, August 26, 2005 at his home in Kaysville. Son of James Edwin Gurr and Mary Elizabeth Robb. He married Leone Jane Hunter on July 28, 1943. He was a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corp during WWII and flew 373 successful missions during his service in the Pacific. He received many commendations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal of Honor. He continued to pilot airplanes for several years after the war. He moved to Kaysville in 1951 and lived in the same residence with his family until his death. He founded Security Title Company in Farmington in 1946 and was an active member of the Kaysville City Council and Kaysville Planning Commission for many years. He was an active participant in many community companies. He was a founding member of Oakridge Country Club in Farmington. He was an avid golfer his whole life and boasts of having five holes in one. It is a passion that he has passed on to his family. He was a great fan of model railroading, having one of the larger LGB model setups in Utah, that he named Great Utah Rail Road (GURR). He also enjoyed bridge, bowling, boating and other activities. Gordon was always a great example of honesty, integrity and values. His generosity was felt by many who knew him. He is survived by seven children, Dana Lee (Bob) Murdock, Linda (Brent) Major, Carol (John) Briggs, Gordon Gurr Jr., Dee Ann (James) Schofield, David (Susan) Gurr, Gary (Lark) Gurr. He also had 31 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Leone, and 3 grandchildren. A special thanks to Kathy, Sheila and Jon from Hospice Home Care. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Rd, where military honors will be accorded. Jennifer Ann Palmer Monday, August 29, 2005 CLEARFIELD- Jennifer Ann Palmer,32, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 in Salt Lake City. Jennifer was born July 10, 1973 in Miami, Florida to Luis and Deborah (Signor) Bardisa. On February 13, 2004 she married Ross Palmer in Reno, NV. Jen was a very caring person, loved all her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Ross; her son, Joshua Bardisa and a daughter Breanne Depasquale; two step children, William and Crystal Palmer; two brothers, Brian and Jhonathan Bardisa and her father, Luis. She was preceded in death by her mother. Interment of cremated remains will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at the Clearfield City Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Cremation under the direction of Aaron's Mortuary & Crematory, 1600 Washington Blvd. Mary Jean Smith Monday, August 29, 2005 OGDEN - Mary Jean Smith, age 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, August 25, 2005. She was born July 16, 1925, the youngest child of Alexander J. and Martha Smith Schott. She attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High with the class of 1943. She attended Weber College, where she was voted "The Friendliest Girl on Campus", The University of Denver, and graduated from Utah State University in 1948. She was proud to be an Aggie but bled Weber State pruple. She was a teacher in the Ogden School District, touching the lives of thousands of children at Bonneville, Taylor, Washington, Jefferson and Edison Schools. She retired from teaching in 1987. She met A. Gibson Smith while working summers at Island Park Lodge; they were married November 11, 1953 in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Gib died September 20, 1972. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Highland Ward and served the Lord through serving others. She was President of the Relief Society and served in the Young Women's and Primary organizations. She also served in the Weber State Relief Society Presidency. She served three terms on the Board of Directors of the Ogden School District Credit Union. She loved to play bridge with her many friends; one of her bridge clubs has endured since her college days at Weber. She was a proud member of the Golf City Ladies Association. Mary Jean loved to travel and had the opportunity to see much of the world traveling with family and friends. She enjoyed completing a crossword puzzle every morning. Mary Jean was loved by so many people largely because of her tremendous gift of love and of making friends with people of all ages. She will always be remembered for her constant smile, her cheery disposition, her Sunday dinners, and her carrot cake. She loved to attend Weber State basketballs games and loved supporting her grandchildren by attending their sporting events, recitals, concerts and other activities. Mary Jean dedicated her entire life to her family. Her grandchildren will always have fond memories of the annual family golf tournament she held around her birthday and the many hours playing at her home with the cousins on Sunday afternoons. She is survived by her children, Jeff Smith, Ogden; David and Deby Smith, Kaysville; Susan and Michael DeYoung, Ogden; Kirk and Katie Smith, Ogden; Ann Syphus, Salt Lake City. Mary Jean will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Tarra Smith, Courtney Smith, Alex Smith (currently serving in the Durban, South Africa mission), Elizabeth Smith, Katherine Smith, Maryann Smith, Sarah Jane Smith, Christine Smith, Meg DeYoung, Christian DeYoung, Marc DeYoung, Curtis Smith, Patrick Smith, Spencer Smith, McKay Smith, Ben Syphus, Carter Syphus, and a great granddaughter, Paige Smith, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary Jean enjoyed a particularly close relationship with family of her husband, the Smiths and Kirkhams. Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gib Smith, her parents, brothers, Dale and Fred Schott, sister, Margaret Gessell, son-in-law, Stan Syphus, and a grandchild Janie DeYoung. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Highland Ward Chapel, 1314 - 27th Street. Elnora Litz Hickman Monday, August 29, 2005 On a beautiful summer day, August 26, 2005, Elnora Litz Hickman, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home with loved ones at her side. She was born March 25, 1917, in Trenton, Utah to William and Vivian Tippetts Litz. As a child she spent many days helping on the family farm with her sister and brothers. She has always had a deep love for her parents and siblings. She attended school in Cache Valley graduating from North Cache High School. She attended Weber Academy where she received her cosmetology license. She put herself through college at Utah State University. She married Blaine Earl Hickman on August 27, 1941, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their marriage was an example of love, devotion, and enjoying life. They had a wonderful companionship, working together owning and operating the family ranch in Stone, Idaho and operating a country store in Snowville, Utah. They moved to Rawlins, Wyoming in 1973 and to Ogden in 1992. Elnora was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was always willing to serve the Lord in any way. She and Blaine served three LDS missions to the Papeete Tahiti Mission. She is survived by her husband, Blaine E. Hickman of Ogden, one brother William (Ila) Litz of Trenton, UT, and eight children; Winston (Donna) Hickman, Vivian (Steven) Terry, Michael (Marsha) Hickman, Ineda (Deon) Wilkes, Annette (Gary) Christensen, Matthew (Nancy) Hickman, Delila (Jon) Webb, Stuart (Dawn) Hickman; 43 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren. There was never anything more important to her than her family. She loves each one of them with all her heart and we each felt her sweet love. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Aldena and brother-in-law Rex Reed, one brother Leon Litz, and one great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at 12:00 Noon at the Mt. Lewis 7th Ward Chapel, 1200 North Monroe Blvd., Ogden, UT. Gladys "Glad" West Monday, August 29, 2005 FRUIT HEIGHTS -- Our beloved Aunt and Friend, Gladys "Glad" West, 85, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2005. She was born October 31, 1919 in Plymouth, England to Richard and Bessie Hawke. She was raised in Plymouth. Glad married Stan Barbji in 1941 in England. He passed away five years later. She married Burt Milsom in 1950 in England. He also preceded her in death. While visiting her sister, Irene Benson, in Farmington, UT, she met yet another sweetheart, Neil West. They were married May 16, 1973 in Bristol, England. After their honeymoon in Paris, France, they resided in Farmington, Utah. Neil and Gladys restored the Old Livery Stable to the Rock Barn home on Main Street in Farmington. They moved to Las Vegas in 1989. Neil passed away in 1993 and Glad returned to Utah. During the war she was a conductor for the British Railways. Glad also owned and operated a general store GladBurts in Cornwall, England for 20 years. We will miss her fun stories and fond memories of England. She was the manager of the Heidelberg Restaurant in Farmington, UT. Glad was an avid knitter. She loved to knit sweaters and cardigans. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved working in her rose gardens. Glad loved to travel worldwide, especially with her sister Irene. Glad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Fruit Heights 8th Ward. Gladys is survived by a stepdaughter Diane (Bob) Grady, stepson Gary West, and many nieces and nephews who adored her. Glad was a mom to Craig and Susan West of Fruit Heights, UT, and an American Mother to George and Yvonne Streets of Sussex, England. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Craig and Susan West would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Joel Porter of IHC Layton and the nurses, aids and staff at Avalon Care Center in Bountiful for their love and care for Glad. Interment, Farmington City Cemetery. John L. Durbin Monday, August 29, 2005 OGDEN - John LaRoy Durbin, 56, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2005 at his home in Ogden, Utah. He was born on November 3, 1948 on Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, Utah, a son of John Lyle and Wanda Marie Garner Durbin. He married Carolyn Reay on February 24, 1970. They were later divorced. John married Delcie Vilate Humphrey on July 1, 1995 in Ogden, Utah. John was a member of the LDS Church. He loved to go fishing, golfing, camping, traveling and movies. Surviving are his wife, Delcie of Ogden; three sons, Carl, Daniel and Albert, nine daughters, Kelly, Heather, Lisa, Misty, Trisha, Trudy, Rachele, Kamala, Calene; 31 grandchildren; four brothers, Craig, Les, Gerald, Tazz; two sisters, Charlene and Iva. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters. It was John's desire to be cremated. Cremation under the direction of Gillies Funeral Chapel, Brigham City.
