Barker, Jason Brian SOUTH OGDEN - Jason Brian Barker, 28, beloved son, grandson, brother and uncle, returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 8, 2005. Jason was born on November 24, 1976 in Clarkston, Washington to Ray C. and Judy Olsen Barker. Jason grew up in Glenwood, Utah and attended schools in Richfield, Layton and Weber Basin Job Corp. He loved doing anything in the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and fishing at Flaming Gorge and drowning worms on the Weber River. He also loved riding horses and gardening. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by a daughter Emilee, his mother Judy Barker of Syracuse; his father and stepmother Ray C. and Sheila Barker of South Ogden; his brother Max (Cindy) Barker of Hurricane; sisters Robin Hoggan of South Ogden; Heidi Shields, Kimberly (Matt) Christensen all of Syracuse; Karen (Dirk) Bishop of South Weber and grandfather Max R. She was born March 26, 1918 in Ogden, a daughter of James and Pearl Skeen Martin. Nola married Wayne Clyde Halls. They were later divorced. She married Charles Merlin Christiansen in Elko, Nevada. Charles preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Ogden, graduating from Weber High School and Stevens Henagar Business College. Nola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She retired from Hill Air Force Base following 20 years of service at Hill Air Force Base as a data engineer. Nola loved to be around and spend time with her family. She also enjoyed yard work and fishing. Surviving are one son, Rodney Kent (Linda Samuels) Halls, Hooper; her stepchildren, Wayne, Janet, Paul, Robert, and Michael, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Esplin, Oleen NO. OGDEN - Oleen Esplin, 92, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Crestwood Care Center. She was born April 6, 1912 in Orderville, Utah, the daughter of Alma Cox Esplin and Cleo Hannah Luke Esplin. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger siblings, Luella Barlow, Alma Lamar Esplin and Wendell Luke Esplin. Oleen resided in Orderville 13 years, Logan 42 years, North Ogden 34 years, and in Ogden at the Gardens and Crestwood Care Centers the remainder of her life. She was a faithful life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Oleen filled many callings in Primary, Sunday School, Young Women's, and Relief Society. Of special interest was her calling as secretary to the High Priest Group in the old days. She especially loved the children and youth of the church and community. Oleen was educated in Orderville and Logan graduating from Utah State University with a B.S. degree in business. She was employed by Cache County Extension Service as a stenographer, Columbia Sheep Breeders Assoc. as executive secretary, and Weber State University as a secretary in the graduation office. Oleen was affectionately known as Auntie by family, neighbors and friends. She devoted her life loving and caring for her siblings, and three generations of nieces and nephews. Her home was open to all and provided a great haven of love, nurturing, teaching, understanding, food, shelter and fun. She is our significant other. Gardner, Chad Michael Kelso Chad Michael Kelso Gardner 1973 - 2005 Our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend left this earthly existence on Tuesday, February 8th, 2005. Chad died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Irving, Texas. Born August 28th, 1973, Chad was never at a loss for energy or for something to say. He graduated with the class of 1991 from St. Joseph High School in Ogden, and married Meggan Dupuis on July 7th, 1996. Chad's short span of years was packed full of vibrant living and infused with passion. All who knew him appreciated his generosity, compassion, infectious laughter and beautiful smile. He was devoted to his wife and children, and enjoyed sharing his interests in cooking, music, movies, and literature with them. Chad was a talented musician, and loved to play the blues on his saxophone, harmonica and piano. One of his favorite activities was to dance in the kitchen with Meggan and the kids. Chad worked tirelessly to ensure the happiness and well-being of his fam ily, and was employed in various sales and computer-related fields including his most recent position with Quickcare in Dallas, Texas. Chad is survived by his wife Meggan; Parents Debbie and B. Greg Gardner and Gary and Mary Clare Kelso; children Devin, Breanna, Michael, Isaiah, Bailey and Ethan; brothers and sisters Gina Barberi, Mikelle (Brent) Weil, Kelly (Rob) Kelso, Kerry (Keith) Hankins, David (Fawn) Kelso, Aaron (Anne) Gardner, Beth (Ryan) Dickson, Katie, Jake and Nikki Gardner, grandmother, Ferne Kelso, and many other friends and family members who loved him dearly. Halverson, James Roger OGDEN - James Roger Halverson, 63, rode down his last trail on February 8, 2005 at his home. He was born August 30, 1941 in Ogden to Amos and Ruby Halverson, the fourth of seven children. Jim graduated from the school of Hard Knocks and became a successful chef in the restaurant industry including, Finer Foods, Park Drive Inn, Snowmass Colorado, and Sizzler Restaurants. Jim was the life of the party and was loved by everyone who met him. He loved camping and fishing and enjoyed scenery and traveling. He loved horses and dogs, especially little bear. James married, then later divorced. Surviving are three children, James, Debbie (Bob) Peterson, Teresa (Rick) Birch; 11 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters, Janneane Shupe, Sharon Kister, Diane Warner, Joel Halverson, Jerry Halverson, and Randy Halverson. In her brief 54 years, Edwina wore many hats and impacted many lives with her wisdom, wit, charm and compassion. She was a mentor, teacher, law assistant, research analyst, personal accountant, physician, chef and our very own interior and clothing designer. She enjoyed a long productive career, which included Job Corps, Community Action Agency, USAF Contracting and Tax Law Associates of Atlanta. Jennie was born August 26, 1914 in Elba, Idaho, a daughter of George Wells and Sylvia Abigail Beecher Hadfield. They later moved to Utah and she graduated from Davis High School. She married Mellry Layton Harris on January 11, 1932 in Logan, Utah. They were later sealed together for eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple on July 2, 2002. Jennie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had great faith and a desire for good. Jennie always put others first and believed we need to help each other to get through life. She owned and operated the Malted Milk Donut Shop and also a Chinchilla Ranch in Ogden, where she won many ribbons and trophies. Jennie later worked for Shaver Mart. Jennie was a loving mother of two sons, Nolan (Luana) and Roger (Sharon) Harris (deceased) and a loving grandmother of nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildre n and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Norma Mumford and sister-in-law Sylvia Hadfield. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband Mellry, son Roger and grandson Randy. He was born on October 25, 1933 in Brigham City, a son of J. Otto and Leah Mathias Jensen in Brigham City. He married Ruby Hadden and together they had three children. They later divorced. Garth married Myrna Fry on April 18, 1975 and together with the children, became a family. Garth and Myrna had the joy of renewing their wedding vows on their 25th Anniversary. Garth was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Utility Trailer. Garth was a beloved member of Northpark Church in Roy. Surviving are his wife Myrna and their three children, Michael Otto Jensen, Sacramento, CA; Lorie Ann (Jeffery) Fry, Washington Terrace; Gerry Thomas Jensen, Pagosa Springs, CO; six grandchildren, Kacey (Chris) Aaron, Jeffery Joe Fry, Wayne C. Jeppson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Wednesday, February 9, in Ogden, Utah of causes incident to pneumonia after courageously battling Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases for several years. He was born March 10, 1919 in Brigham City, Utah to David Fernando and Anna Zelnora Fuller Jeppson. He grew up in Brigham City, graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Bakersfield Junior College for one year. He served in the U.S. Navy in San Diego during World War II. He began his professional career at Box Elder County Bank and retired as vice president of Commercial Security Bank after 40 years of service. On October 11, 1940, Boyd married his high school sweetheart, Ilene Carlson, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with five children. As a couple, they set an example of mutual devotion, service, generosity and faith. Boyd served faithfully in many church callings in The Church of Jesus Ch rist of Latter-day Saints including Stake Young Men's President, High Counselor, Bishop, and Counselor in a Stake Presidency. He and Ilene also served in the Ogden Temple for seven years. Boyd spent most of his life engaged in civic affairs including two terms in the Utah State Legislature, various positions in the Republican Party, President of the Kiwanis Club, Knife and Fork Club, and Ogden High PTA; Officer in Utah Bankers Association, and member of the Lions Club and Sons of Utah Pioneers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ilene of Ogden; children: Judy (Winslow) Hurst, of Layton; Doug (Nancy) of Centerville; Linda (Dean) Carver of Fairfax, VA; Janis (Stephen) Ronnenkamp of Layton; Jeri (Paul) Laird of Ogden; 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, a brother, Keith (Cozette) and a sister, Ruth Jansen. Boyd was preceded in death by his father, David (1937), and mother, Anna (1981), four brothers: Lamar, Earl, Glen, and Max; three sisters: Erma, Pearl, and Alene; and a great -grandson, Carter. Standing, Alta Together Again OGDEN - Alta Ann Standing, 85, has gone to be with her Heavenly Father and is now reunited with the love of her life, Jack. OGDEN - Karl Sherman Stoker, 72, died Monday, February 7, 2005 at his home in Ogden of a sudden heart attack. He was born July 16, 1932 in Ogden, a son of Alvin David and Dagmar Ragnhild Nielsen Lyngby Stoker. Karl married Ida Underwood on November 3, 1951 in Elko, Nevada. They were later divorced. On April 22, 1977, he married Karen Keller in Ogden. He was reared and educated in Clearfield graduating from Davis High School Class of 1950. He lettered on various sports teams. He then attended Weber State College where he played football. He moved to Ogden in 1977. Karl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was an Elder and participated in the sports programs. He owned and operated car washes in Davis and Weber Counties since 1964. Karl was a member of the Ogden Boat Club and served as a Commodore. He loved snow skiing at Powder Mountain, water skiing, gardening, watching a good ball game, and cooking pancakes at the family campou ts. Surviving are his wife Karen, Ogden; one son and two daughters, Kyle S. (Julayne) Stoker, Plain City; Kathy Dawn Stoker, West Point; Robin (Chad) Helsop, El Cajon, CA; five grandchildren, Shane D. Stoker, Nathan S. (Alicia) Stoker, Amelia A. (Robert) Baker, Nikael (Jake) Choules, Neriece Stoker, and four great-grandchildren. Sumida, Rose BRIGHAM CITY - Rose Kumiko Murakami Sumida, 89, loving mother, dedicated worker and world traveler, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2005 at the Country Lane Assisted Living Center. Rose was born on November 3, 1915 in Nagoya, Japan and immigrated to the United States at the age of four with her parents Sam and Yae Goto Murakami. She married Jiro Joe Sumida on March 25, 1934 in Portland, Oregon. He preceded her in death on August 18, 1988. Rose grew up in Portland, Oregon. With the outbreak of World War II, she and her husband were interned at the Hunt Relocation Camp in Idaho. At the conclusion of war they relocated to Perry, Utah where she and her husband reared their family. She worked for Maddox Ranch House and retired after 35 years. Rose loved to keep busy and had a great work ethic. She was talented and made beautiful crocheted dollies for friends and family members. She was an avid gardener. She could make anything grow and turned the simplest flowers into a colorful yard. Every year her red tulips lined the front and corner of her yard. She loved to travel and opened many windows of the world by taking her three daughters on trips to Europe including: England, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain, and Greece. A different part of the world was part of her itinerary as she took them to Asia including: China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, and Bali. She was a member of the Honeyville Buddhist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a petite woman yet determined. She never complained but learned to adapt to her surroundings. She was a great source of strength to all family members which inspired them to succeed in their endeavors. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to get an education. She is survived by her three daughters: Nancy (Michael) Sandoval, Sunnyvale, California; Jane (Richard) Gomez, Perry, Utah; Margie (Stan) Pearson, Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren ; one brother, Charles (Grace) Murakami; two sisters, Yam Yagami and Tootsie (Yuki) Taniguchi; two sisters-in-law, Sumi and Yoshiko Murakami; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, Tamako Makita; two brothers, John and George Murakami; two brothers-in law, Mitz Yagami and Mac Makita; and her parents. The family would like to thank the staff at Country Lane Assisted Living Center, Legacy Hospice and Heritage Brookside Home Care for their special care, support and comfort they gave to Rose and family members. Private services for immediate family members will be held at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City Saturday, February 12 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery. She was born October 1, 1927 in Cedar City, UT to George Henry Gower and Alice Jane Perry. She married Don Pershing Williams on December 13, 1950 in Salt Lake City, UT. She is survived by her children Kim L Williams of Riverdale, UT Dawn Ann (Stephen) Anderson of Roy, UT, Jac Don (Amy) Williams of Morgan, UT; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother George Clyde (Bernice) Gower of Flatrock, NC; sister Audree (George) Slack of Cedar City; and sister-in-law Lewen Gower of Cedar City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, brothers Warren and Reid Gower, and son Russell. Private family services will be held at a later date.
