Dickson (Dick) Adams Eugene Dickson Adams, 80, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness. Dick was born in Ogden to Leonard V. and Pearl Wood Adams. Except for the time spent in military service he lived in Ogden his entire life. Dick graduated from Ogden High School in 1942 and went on to graduate from Utah State University. Dick served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-49 as a Supply Officer in the South Pacific during World War II. He loved his country and was proud to have served. He married Betty McCulloch, they later divorced. They had two daughters, Mary and Bette. He married Bonnie Gines, they later divorced. They had four daughters, Jill, April, Allison and Paige. He married Betty Johnson in 1969 and they were married for 35 years. Dick was a CPA but in 1974 he found his true career; he became a teacher at Stevens Henager College and taught until he retired in 2002. Dick acquired the title of Professor be fore his retirement and was proud of that accomplishment. He enjoyed his association with his many students and the staff and faculty at the college. He continued his accounting practice part-time. Dick was a member of the LDS Church and an Elder in the Ogden 41st Ward. Dick was an avid reader, liked to fish at East Creek, and spend time with family and close friends. Dick had an unique sense of humor which we will all miss. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, six daughters, Mary (John) Heins, Layton; Bette Jo Adams, St. George; Jill (Robert) Hall, Layton; April (Chris) Handley, Syracuse; Allison (Dave) Bell, Centerville; Paige (Tad) Auker, Rapid City, SD; one stepson Terry (Mary) Johnson, Ogden. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Melanie, Rebecca, Melinda, Angie, Skyler, Ashley, Logan, Landon, Hailey, Miles, Marley, Aiden, Roya, Sierra, Brady, two step-granddaughters, Hollie and Sarah, six great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Cody, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Jaron and Connor. Also a brother Jack (Laurel) Adams and a sister, Lucille Widdison. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leonard, Glen and Donald. A "Celebration of the Life of Dick Adams" will be held on Tuesday, Febr. 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at The Ivy Lane Reception Center, 1029 25th Street. Betts ROY - Norma C. Betts, 90, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005. She was born March 26, 1914 in St. George, Utah, the daughter of George Q. and Josephine Prisby Cannon. She married Roy Stevens; they later divorced. She then married S. Jesse Cude; this marriage also ended in divorce. In 19 62 she met the love of her life, Emmett R. Betts. They were married on June 6, 1963. Dad passed away on September 29, 1978. Mother stayed to keep us strong, but too long from him was she. She is survived by her children, Dixie Bennett, George (Chris) Cude, Sallie Zapien, Marie (Dale) Trease, Jess (Marylin) Cude, and Barbara (Grant) Woolsey; stepsons, John (Gail) Betts and George (Carol) Betts; 23 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Floyd Stevens and Jerry Cude; four grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Larry "Charlie" Brown, 61, died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at his home. He was born March 16, 1943 in Ogden, a son of James Marvin and Connie Jane Egan Brown. On January 24, 1981, he married his best friend and little flower, Billy. He was reared and educated in Ogden attending Weber High School. Charlie was very proud to serve his country in the U. S. Army. He retired from Ogden City with 20 years of service. Charlie was involved with horse racing. He loved working with computers and creating web pages. He was an expert marksman and won numerous trophies in trap shooting. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and horses. He was an excellent cook and loved preparing and serving Thanksgiving dinner for his family. He loved NFL football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Charlie was his own person with a tough exterior, but a big heart. Surviving are his wife, Judy "Billy" Brown, Ogden; three sons and two daughters, Russ (Angela) Brown, Brett (Carr ie) Lund, Brian (Natasha) Lund, Holly (Roger) Hill and Lindsay (Brad) Opheikens, all of Ogden; and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Tommy Brown, Ogden. Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents. Special thanks to the staff at Ogden Regional Medical Center for their kindness and care. Davison, Lila Taylor Lila Taylor Davison FARR WEST - On Feb. 15, 2005, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Lila LaDean Taylor Davison, returned to her Heavenly Father's arms and was reunited with those who have gone before her. Born July 5, 1923 in Plain City, Utah to John Taylor and Delilah Hansen. A member of the LDS Church. She grew up and lived in the Ogden area her entire life. She was married to the love of her life Heber C. Davison on Sept. 14, 1946 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. She graduated from Weber High School. She retired from Continental Baking Co. She loved to bake, play cards, crochet, do ceramics and paint. Above all else she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed her simple country lifestyle. She was the 15th of 17 children. She is survived by her loving husband and seven children, Michael Dennis Davison and wife Joyce, Roy, UT; Mrs. Farrell (Joy) French, Centerville, UT; Dan C. Foultz, Francis Stewart Francis Stewart Foultz LAYTON - Francis Foultz, age 85 passed away on February 18, 2005 from pneumonia at North Davis Hospital. Francis was born March 12, 1919 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Stewart C. and Belva L. Foultz. On November 23, 1942 he married Rosemary G. Dempsey in Harrisburg. He retired from Hill Air For Base after 33 years of civilian service. He was a 4-year veteran of World Ward II with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW in Layton, Utah, and the American Legion in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed music, having been a professional musician both in the Harrisburg, PA, and Ogden, Utah areas. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and visiting Wendover, Nevada. Surviving is a son, Joseph T. Foultz of Martinsburg, West Virginia, daughter Patricia Fullmer, grand-daughter Kathryn (Jason) Jones, and grandson Bryan, of Pleasanton, California. Francis was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, his parents, one step-sister and three step-brothers. Hadley, Dean Raymond Dean Raymond Hadley Dean Raymond Hadley, 79, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2005. He was born in Marriott, Utah on March 3, 1925 to Alonzo and Iretta Butler Hadley. He was the 7th of 11 children. Dean attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1943. He was drafted into the military in January of 1944, serving in Germany with the 280th combat engineers. He was in three major battles. He was discharged in January of 1946. Dean worked with his brother at A.B Hadley and later owned and operated Dean's Automotive until his retirement in 1981. On August 11, 1943 he married Ruby Suiter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. That union was blessed with six children. Gerrie (Ron) Robbins, Dan (Susan) Hadley, Dale (Sherrie) Hadley, Kelly (Gwen) Hadley, Pam (Chuck) Rockwell, and Kirt Hadley. They were later divorced. Dean married Phyllis Nelson Brewer on February 23, 1974 and adopted her two children, Chuck (Maggie) Hadley, and Cheryl (Sam) Archuleta. Phyllis passed away January 19, 2005. Dean and Phyllis enjoyed taking their motor home to Arizona in the winter where they were activity directors at an R. V. park. Surviving are his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, his siblings Roland (Murna) Hadley, Gordon (Maxine) Hadley, Dorothy Cole, June Heiser and Joan (Ronald) Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis, a son Kirt, granddaughter Jodie Hadley, daughter-in-law Carolyn Hadley three brothers and two sisters. Legg, John Everard John Everard Legge "Called to the Head Office" HOOPER - John Everard Legge, 87, passed away, Thursday, February 17, 2005, at the home he had built and lived in for 50 years. He was born June 5, 1917, in North Shields, England, the son of Charles Henry and Barbara Stevens Legge. John proudly served and was injured in his Majesty's Army. He was in Dunkirk, France during The Battle of Dunkirk. On September 17, 1939 John married Gladys Mary Mountain in Anfield Plain, England. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gladys died February 6, 1978. He was a self taught man. John was a convert and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was employed as a chauffer to Lord Nelson, worked for Wastach Oil Company for 20 years and owned and operated Legge Equipment Repair. John loved to create and build. He was a master tinker and he took special delight in his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Kelvin (Debbie) Legge, Wes t Haven; Christine (Gene Larry) Pellew, Seaside, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his wife and one sister, Ruth. Scriven, Mary Griggs Mary Griggs Scriven Mary Griggs Scriven, 83, passed away after a long illness on February 17, 2005 at Woodland Park Convalescent Center, Salt Lake City. She was born October 10, 1921 to Lawrence Price and Emily Boweter Griggs in Driggs, Idaho. She married Leonard Gilmore Scriven on August 1, 1942 in Val Verda, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 11, 1965. Mary lived in Driggs, ID until she graduated from high school and then came to Salt Lake City to attend LDS Hospital Nursing School for four years, graduating in 1942. She accompanied her husband in his military career living in Germany and many places in the United States from Alaska to Georgia. She has been in all 50 states and many countries of Europe in her travels. She was a member of the D.U.P. and the LDS Nurses Alumni Association. As an active member of the LDS Church she has held many positions and enjoyed serving others. She worked as a private duty nurse, teaching Red Cross mother baby care classes, office nurse, operating room nurse, and finished her career working at 5 West at the LDS Hospital. She is survived by a son, Edward Alan (Margaret) Scriven, Layton, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren with a fifth one due in April, and sisters Marjorie Medley, Salt Lake City, Irma (Grant) Clawson, Murray and brothers William (Sharon) Griggs, Brigham City and Robert (Gwen) Griggs, West Valley City. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters Louise (Joe) Rocheleau, Katherine (Glynn) Box, Laura (Dean) Clemmer, and Jeanne Griggs. Souttar, William Jolley William (Good Ol' Uncle Bill) Jolley Souttar LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. - After 94 active years, "Good Ol' Uncle Bill" Souttar passed away February 10, 2005 after a short illness. Bill was born in Junction City, KA on July 9, 1910 to William Jolley Souttar and Helen Keller. He married (Ola) Madge Yeager on October 19, 1935; she preceded him in death on April 28, 1990. He attended Estherville Jr. College in Estherville, IA and received an honorable discharged from the U.S. Army on August 10, 1944. He was a pilot and expert marksman. He lived in Missouri until 1956, and then moved to Utah until 1990. Since then he has lived in Missouri and most recently Laguna Hills, CA. Bill was a 32 degree 58+ year member in good standing the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and proud of his Scottish heritage. He was a member of the Moberly Country Club in Missouri and Won the championship match in the Top Flight crown of Moberly Country Club (year unknown). As a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club he was a member of the Hole-In-One Club by virtue of a Hole-In-One made on the 11th hole on September 11, 1969. Bill served as President of the Moberly Chamber of Commerce, Inc in 1947 and served in many community positions during his lifetime. He managed First-Run theatres for Midwest Theatres (20th Century Fox) for 14 years in MO. He worked in the theatre industry for over 40 years. He and Madge moved to Utah in 1956 to run what is now Ogden's Historic Egyptian Theatre. He retired from the industry in 1975. In the 1994 edition of The Papyrus announcing the Eccles Grant to restore the Egyptian Theatre, an article by Van Summerill recognized Bill as being among the last "show-men"; and for holding the longevity record as manager of Ogden's Historic Egyptian Theatre (19 yrs). Madge opened the Ogden gift shop, Jade Tree in 1960 and when Bill retired he "went to work for Madge." They ran the Jade Tree for 24 years. Bill and Madge enjoyed traveling the world and did so often. His 2004 travels inc luded Europe, Thailand, and many Cruises, with the assistance of his close friend, Garman Salas of Florida. His wish is to be scattered at Sea and to "Let my ashes blow". Vellinga, Clarence Clarence Vellinga OGDEN - Clarence Vellinga, 91, passed away peacefully in his daughter's home February 16, 2005. He was born March 22, 1913 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Dutch immigrants Pieter Adrianus Vellinga and Clazina Stapel. He married Arlene Davis November 6, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 13 children, who brought him his greatest joy. Clarence was a great example of hard work, faith and love of family. He had a passion for life and the beautiful world in which he lived. He enjoyed working, fishing and hunting with his family. He could fix anything. He exercised regularly, swimming every morning for over 40 years - he recorded 4,877 miles. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Sullivan Hollow 1st Ward. He served as a stake missionary, counselor in a bishopric, and HP group leader. He loved temple work. He spent countless hours at the church welfare farm. He loved to serve others. He will be remembered most for the service he gave as a home teacher. He joined the Army in 1935 and served in Hawaii. He worked for the Forest Service, General Mills, and GSA. He was preceded in death by his wife Arlene, his son Johnny and 15 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Oyler, 12 children and their spouses: Clarence (Annette), Clifford (Kathy), Joyce (Richard) Lindsley, Richard (Elaine), Roy (Linda), Lynn (Sandy), Mike (Pam), Karen (Craig) Shurtleff, Bruce (Val), Janette (Reid) Petersen, Mary (Don) Belnap, Ross (Beth), and his 72 grandchildren, and 62 great-grandchildren. Warden OGDEN - Melba Lenora Jacobsen Warden, loving daughter, wife, aunt and friend passed away, after an extended illness Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, in South Ogden. She had been living at the Washington Terrace Nursing Facility in South Ogden, Utah. She was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Ogden, Utah to Hans Jacobsen and Emma Christina Blixt. She graduated from Ogden High School and was employed by Mountain States Tel. & Tel. for 13 years. She was married to Albert F. Warden on April 10, 1942, in Reno, Nevada, by a Mormon Bishop. The marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. Al died Oct. 26, 1971. Her husband, Al, was Sports Editor of the Standard-Examiner for many years. She was able to accompany him on many sports events throughout the country. She had the opportunity of meeting many of the great people involved in sports. Melba was a lifetime member of the LDS Church and served as a visiting teacher, ward librarian, secretary of the Relief Society, and Stake representa tive for the single adults. She was a member of the Alruist Club and the World Affairs Club, which is affiliated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs. She is survived. by one sister, Evelyn Williams, Ogden; five nieces and two nephews; three step-grandsons and their wives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Herbert Jacobsen and Lloyd Jacobsen; her stepson, Eugene Warden, and step-grandson, Kirk Warden. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at 2 p.m. in the Larkin & Sons Mortuary, 496 24th St. Ogden.
