Dickson (Dick) Adams Eugene Dickson Adams, 80, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness. Dick was born in Ogden to Leonard V. and Pearl Wood Adams. Except for the time spent in military service he lived in Ogden his entire life. Dick graduated from Ogden High School in 1942 and went on to graduate from Utah State University. Dick served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-49 as a Supply Officer in the South Pacific during World War II. He loved his country and was proud to have served. He married Betty McCulloch, they later divorced. They had two daughters, Mary and Bette. He married Bonnie Gines, they later divorced. They had four daughters, Jill, April, Allison and Paige. He married Betty Johnson in 1969 and they were married for 35 years. Dick was a CPA but in 1974 he found his true career; he became a teacher at Stevens Henager College and taught until he retired in 2002. Dick acquired the title of Professor be fore his retirement and was proud of that accomplishment. He enjoyed his association with his many students and the staff and faculty at the college. He continued his accounting practice part-time. Dick was a member of the LDS Church and an Elder in the Ogden 41st Ward. Dick was an avid reader, liked to fish at East Creek, and spend time with family and close friends. Dick had an unique sense of humor which we will all miss. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty, six daughters, Mary (John) Heins, Layton; Bette Jo Adams, St. George; Jill (Robert) Hall, Layton; April (Chris) Handley, Syracuse; Allison (Dave) Bell, Centerville; Paige (Tad) Auker, Rapid City, SD; one stepson Terry (Mary) Johnson, Ogden. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Melanie, Rebecca, Melinda, Angie, Skyler, Ashley, Logan, Landon, Hailey, Miles, Marley, Aiden, Roya, Sierra, Brady, two step-granddaughters, Hollie and Sarah, six great-grandchildren, Kelsi, Cody, Taylor, Kaitlyn, Jaron and Connor. Also a brother Jack (Laurel) Adams and a sister, Lucille Widdison. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Leonard, Glen and Donald. A "Celebration of the Life of Dick Adams" will be held on Tuesday, Febr. 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at The Ivy Lane Reception Center, 1029 25th Street. Degroot, Karol K. pobit,pdKarol K. DeGroot OGDEN - Karol K. DeGroot, 63, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at her home from cancer. Karol was born May 15, 1941 in Cornish, Utah, she was the first of five children to Grant B. Kent and Lorain I. Myler Kent. She married Daniel W. DeGroot on June 14, 1963. They were together 40 years until Dan passed away unexpectedly July 18, 2003. They lived out their lives together in the Ogden area. Karol retired from the IRS and Hill Air Force Base after 30 years of service, making many life long friends along the way. Karol enjoyed many hobbies like bowling, bingo, camping and craft work; she also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Surviving are her children Michelle (Pat) Fletcher, Lansing, Kansas and Kevin (Tierney) DeGroot, Ogden. Also surviving are two brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Dan. Deanne Flick died on February 19, 2005. She was born on September 15, 1935 to Milton L. Buttars and Gladys M. Manning in Preston, Idaho. She lived in Washington Terrace, Utah, and later moved to Logan, Utah, where she attended Jr. High and High School. She married Louis D. Leishman, which later ended in divorce. She had three children, Debbie, Vickie, Sonja, and two stepsons, Michael and Mark. She had worked for Jo-Lee Lanes, Matties Cafe and the Roy Elks office. She met and married Ronald A. Flick on April 14, 1972; their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Tony) Reiva, Vickie (Jerry) Ware; two stepsons, Michael A. Flick and Mark (Kandi) Flick; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her mother and stepfather, John and Gladys Buttars-Preston; two brothers, Larry (T.J.) Buttars and Alan (Willow) Buttars, and one sister Gay (Dick) Loeffler. She was preced ed in death by her husband, father and daughter. Foultz, Francis Stewart Francis Stewart Foultz LAYTON - Francis Foultz, age 85 passed away on February 18, 2005 from pneumonia at North Davis Hospital. Francis was born March 12, 1919 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a son of Stewart C. and Belva L. Foultz. On November 23, 1942 he married Rosemary G. Dempsey in Harrisburg. He retired from Hill Air For Base after 33 years of civilian service. He was a 4-year veteran of World Ward II with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW in Layton, Utah, and the American Legion in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed music, having been a professional musician both in the Harrisburg, PA, and Ogden, Utah areas. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and visiting Wendover, Nevada. Surviving is a son, Joseph T. Foultz of Martinsburg, West Virginia, daughter Patricia Fullmer, grand-daughter Kathryn (Jason) Jones, and grandson Bryan, of Pleasanton, California. Francis was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary, his parents, one step-sister and three step-brothers. Horsfall, Jami Marie Jami Marie Horsfall ROY - Jami Marie Horsfall, 26, passed away Friday, February 18, 2005 at Ogden Regional Hospital. She was born May 10, 1978 in Franklin, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Brian K and Vicki M. Winkler Ruhlman. Jami was raised in Seneca, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Cranberry High School. While in high school she tutored children. After high school she obtained her Associate's Degree from Rick's College. Jami had a big heart and was full of kindness and giving. She was a hard worker and was always willing to lend a hand. On April 3, 1998, Jami married Christopher Jason Horsfall, in Washington D.C. They moved to Roy in 1999. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jami worked with the Humane Society and other animal adoption agencies. She loved playing sports and enjoyed crocheting, music and singing. She is survived by her husband, Chris; a son, Ethan and a daughter, Alexandra; her parents, Brian and Vicki Ruhlman, Clark sburg, WV; a brother, Brenton Ruhlman, Clarksburg, WV, two sisters, Heidi (Tony) Sass, Fuquay Varina, NC; and Kristen (Andy) Mahle, Killeen, TX; her parents-in-law, Frank and Susan Horsfall, Mont-Sur-Rolle, Switzerland; and her grandparents, Shirley Winkler, Franklin, PA; and David Ruhlman, Franklin, PA. Marinez, Vernon Edwin Vernon Edwin Martinez LAYTON - Our dearly beloved husband, father and grandfather, Vernon E. Martinez, 74, passed away February 18, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 1, 1931 in Marvel, Colorado, the son of Jose and Eufemia Martinez. He married his sweetheart, Roberta Ruth Benton, on July 6, 1956 in Butte, Montana. Vernon was a veteran of the Korean War. After his honorable discharge he worked and retired from Hill Air Force Base as a civil servant doing aircraft and maintenance repair. He loved the outdoors and often went fishing and hunting. Vernon was loved by all. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Surviving are his wife, Roberta; sons Vernon and Joseph Martinez; daughters, Caroline Porter, Gerrie Thompson, Yorlanda Santamaria, Miranda Rudolph, and Delilah Greetan; sisters, Virginia Valdez, Josie Martinez and Dora Greer. Mason, Icel Roseborough Icel Roseborough Mason OGDEN - Icel Roseborough Mason died on February 19, 2005 following an extended illness. She was born December 27, 1921 in St. Anthony, Idaho. The daughter of Irl Roseborough and Arvilla Cotterell Roseborough. She graduated from St. Anthony High School and attended L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Weston Mason on September 27, 1941. After World War II they resided in Trinidad, Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado where she worked as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture and an insurance company. In 1952 they moved to Ogden, Utah and she began a 35-year career with First Security Bank. The last seven years of that employment were in the corporate offices in Salt Lake City, where she retired in 1987 as Administrative Assistant to the President of the Corporation. During her working years she served as Secretary and then as Chairperson of the Women's Committee for the Northern Utah Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. She was active in both Red Cross and Muscular Dystrophy drives, served on the Board of United Fund of Ogden and was secretary of Wasatch Snowmobiler's Assn. While working in Salt Lake City she was secretary to the Wasatch Group National Association of Bank Women and was an auxiliary member of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce. She served on the committee for the Gina Bachauer Piano competition. After retirement she took care of her ill husband until his death in 1989. She then took up stamp collecting and learned to play the organ. These hobbies brought her great pleasure. She loved people and spent much time looking after the needs of some shut-ins. Her strong philosophy of life was, "If you can't have what you want, then want what you have!" Surviving are her beloved daughter Carolyn and son-in-law William Christian of Santa Fe, New Mexico; two step-brothers, Gerald Clark of St. Anthony and Junior (Darleen) Clark of Rexburg, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by he r parents, step-mother, two brothers and a step-sister. Everyone who knew Icel loved her and will miss her very much. She made friends wherever she went with her sparkling humor and her love of life and of people. Naylor, Wanda Fae Haskell Wanda Fae Haskell Naylor 1935-2005 FRUIT HEIGHTS - Our beloved mother, sister, daughter, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, 69, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on February 18, 2005 after a courageous struggle with cancer. Born November 29, 1935 in Payson, UT to Arnold Elonzo and Ida Harward Haskell, oldest of three children. She spent her summers growing up on Antelope Island and moved to SLC in 1950. She graduated from West High School. She was married and later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple to Duane Clark Naylor, April 19, 1952. They lived in South Salt Lake and moved to Fruit Heights, UT in 1966; they were later divorced. Wanda worked at Hill Air Force Base (FMS) Air Logistics Center. Retired after 35 years in 2002. She visited 54 countries. She is an active member of the Fruit Heights 5th Ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Savior and has a strong testimony. She had many church callings and persevered to the e nd. Wanda has nine stars recognized on her mothers Eagle Scout neckerchief and has proudly watched five missionaries return with four grandsons currently serving missions. As a loving mother, there is simply none better. Her life was centered around her children, extended family and the Gospel. She enjoyed visiting with her family and sharing her love of life and testimony with them. She leaves a great family legacy of 4 children, 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Shelton, Ethelyn Maurie Murdock Ethelyn Maurie Murdock Shelton OGDEN - Ethelyn Maurie Murdock Shelton, 76, passed away Friday, February 18, 2005 , at her home. She was born January 19, 1929, in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Harold Dewey and Juanita M. Backer Murdock. On September 18, 1948, Ethelyn married Don Ray Shelton in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. She was raised in Ogden, attended Weber High and remained in Ogden for most of her life. Ethelyn was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Primary President, Counselor in the Relief Society and Compassionate Service Leader. She was an active member of the PTA, volunteered for The Red Cross for several years and was President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Roy Chapter, in 1974. Ethelyn had many friends, she loved dancing and roller-skating and had a passion for gardening and flowers. She always enjoyed her great friendship with her mother. Ethelyn was a fantastic cook, she made wonderful pies. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and was an excellent seamstress and had a great sense of humor. She had a special love for animals of all kinds. She especially loved her grandchildren and was a favorite aunt of many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Rick (Maxine) Shelton, Ogden; Diane (Lou) Brown, Farmington; and Kay (Kevin) Knowlton, Sunset; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Ethelyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carl Wallis. Stewart, Iril A. Iril A. Stewart MILL VALLEY, CA - Iril Alvin Stewart, 96, returned to his beautiful wife and loving son and daughter on Thursday, February 17, 2005. He was born August 22, 1908 in Ogden, to Joseph Alvin Stewart Jr. and Susie Becraft Stewart. He married Edith Ethelyn Sherman Stewart on June 19, 1939 in Ogden, UT. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 17, 1953. Iril's early childhood was spent in Arizona, and returned to Utah while still in grade school. Iril graduated in the Class of 1926, from Ogden Senior High School. He then went on to Utah State University, Weber Jr. College, and George Washington University in Washington D.C. where he received his Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1941 Iril became a Professional Engineer and was employed by the U. S. Government, in Utah. In 1946 he was transferred to the Presidio of SF with the U.S. Sixth Army, until 1973 when he was sent to Fort McPherson with Head Quarters Forces Command, Engineer Division, Utilities Branch, as Chief of the Mechanical and Energy Sections until he retired in 1983. Iril would say "my hobbies are my talents" and he had plenty of both. He loved working with his hands, including photography, wood working, lapidary work, and gardening. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Iril served as an MIA Counselor, Ward clerk, High Priest Group Leader, Sunday School President, and a Home Teacher. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Stewart Feiring, brother Donnell Becraft Stewart, eternal companion Edith Sherman Stewart, daughter Ruth Stewart, son Paul Howard Stewart, and Great Grandson Jeffery Bret Thompson. Surviving him are his two sons, Sherman Alvin Stewart of Caldwell, ID., and Richard Don Stewart of Mill Valley, CA.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
