She was born April 3, 1916 in Ogden, Utah to Albert Franklin Wade and Berendina Vogelzang. She grew up on a farm in Warren, Utah - the oldest of seven children. Her own mother was in poor health and passed away when Lorene was 15 after which she took on many of the duties of raising her younger brothers and sisters. She graduated from Weber High School in 1934 where she was active in debate and was editor of the school newspaper. She thereafter worked her way through Weber State College receiving an associate degree in business in 1936. During her time at college she met Lynn T. Farr through mutual friends starting a lengthy courtship culminating in their marriage on June 20, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children together and their home became the gathering place for the Farr and Wade clans. Their family was the pride and joy of t heir lives. After graduation she worked at Metropolitan Life until the birth of her first child in 1942. Later she returned to Metropolitan, retiring in 1981 with 31 years of service - the last 15 as office manager. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings - especially in the Young Women's organization. She and Lynn were great examples in reaching out to neighbors who came to Utah from other cultures and had many friends. They were active in the Knife and Fork Club, Exchange Club, and square dancing. Lorene was active in the Lady Lions, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Altruist Club, and Literary Questers. She enjoyed gardening - earning her Master Gardner certificate from the USU Extension Service and thereafter conducting lectures and demonstrations at their horticulture center. Lorene was widowed in 1990. Two years later she married Elmer H. Barlow. With Elmer she tried many new things - traveling the back roads of th e west, living out of a camper, and becoming snowbirds in Quartzsite, AZ until his passing in 2002. Lorene is survived by her children, Fred (Bonnie) Farr, Stephen (Judy) Farr, Deanne (Carl) Smith; sister, Isabel Merrell; brother, Harold R. Wade; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and her English daughter, Shelagh Cobb. She was preceded in death by her husbands; brother, Robert Wade; and sisters, Rae Neilson, Donna Brown, and Carol Mouser Wilson. OGDEN - Dorothy Lucille Anderson Christensen "Grandma Cookie" 87, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Mt. Ogden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 17, 1917, in Shelley, Idaho, a daughter of John Arthur and Ellen Ingelstrom Anderson. She was reared and educated in Shelley, Idaho. Dorothy married Erick James Christensen on August 29, 1934, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mt. Ogden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Branch. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, being with her family and friends, helping others, playing pinochle, going to Wendover with her daughter Jean and sister Myrtle, visiting Ross and MaryLou in Arizona, talking to her sister Violet, and eating out at Kay's Noodle Parlor and The Dragon Restaurant. She had worked as midwife, took in laundry, and worked at the Canning Factory in Ogden. Her favorite thing was being a homemaker and mother, which she excelled at. Surviving ar e one son and two daughters: Brent Erick (Kathy) Christensen, Clearfield; Mrs. Charles (Jean) Dunaway, Farr West; Mrs. Ross (MaryLou) Pearce, Mesa, AZ; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Jose (Violet) Baker, Renton, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband Erick, and by their daughter Sharon Ellen Christensen, two brothers and three sisters. Matthews, Ilka FARR WEST - Ilka Hannelore Matthews, age 47, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 11, 2005, at her home with family and friends at her side. She fought a hard courageous battle with cancer, with a never give up spirit. She was born May 12, 1957 in Cincinnati, OH to Ralph and Ursula Breuer. She served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman where she met her partner for life. She married Joseph Matthews on November 3, 1979 in Virginia Beach, VA. Ilka was the owner of Aquatic Adventures, a scuba diving shop in Farr West. She loved every minute of the six years she was owner, until she was no longer able to run the business. Surviving are her husband, Joseph Joe Matthews, three sons, Jason, Nathan and Ryan, all of Farr West. Also her loving grandson Dominic, who was always able to put a smile on her face, and three brothers, Hanns, Kurt and Rolf Breuer. She was preceded in death by her mother Ursula, her father Ralph, and her sister Moni ca Breuer. She was a friend to everyone and everyone who knew her loved her. She lived her life to serve her husband and her sons, always doing for others before herself. We will all miss this sweet lady dearly. We love you Ilka. Miller, age 55, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2005. He was born August 22, 1949 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Kenneth Miller and Betty Jean Hebdon Melton. Stites, Oral Mae Together Again OGDEN - Oral Mae Asay Stites, 85, died Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at a local care center. She was born March 17, 1919 in Kanna Creek, CO, a daughter of Isaac Allen and Emma Lucinda Gillespie Asay. She lived most of her life in Ogden. On February 2, 1935, Oral married George Stites in Wellington, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. George preceded her in death on December 10, 2002. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission with her husband to the Dallas, Texas Temple in 1985. She returned to Ogden to serve as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple. Oral worked as a cook and manager for the Ogden City Public Schools, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Woodsman of the World and Good Sam Camping Association. She loved to bowl with her husband and had won many trophies. She also loved to camp, hunt, work in her yard in her flowers gardens, and loved doing thing s for other people. Surviving are three sons, Harold (Valerie) Stites, Ogden; Wesley Stites, Ogden; Allen (Diane) Stites, Roy; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Simpson Stites, Roy; 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mona Ellis, Ogden; and Lola Kennedy, Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Linda Nichols, one grandson, one great-great-granddaughter, and eight brothers and sisters. Summers, Lynn Sheldon ROY - Lynn Sheldon Summers, 76, passed away peacefully January 13, 2005 from complications from pneumonia following a hip injury and subsequent surgery. Lynn was born May 22, 1928 in Riverdale. He was the son of Wilford Leslie Summers and Katherine Mahala Thompson. One of five surviving children, his early life was spent on a farm in Clinton, Utah with brothers Ben and Tim and sisters Kass and Helen. In 1946 Lynn graduated from Davis High School. In 1949 he met and married his wonderful wife, Anna Beth Tims. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Lynn and Anna Beth were blessed with four wonderful children, Shelly, Beth Ann, Mark, and Jim. Lynn was always proud of his children and found great joy with them, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are many fond memories of Grandpa showing (i.e., telling!) all of the kids how to work the garden. Mr. Summers began a distinguished federal career working at the Ogden Arsenal. He late r told the story that he weighed a mere 116 lb, so he placed rocks in his slacks to make the minimum acceptable weight for hire. His work ethic was always exemplary and a great source of pride. His next position took him to Hill Air Force Base. This was a 30-day appointment that lasted 37 years. Mr. Summers rose to serve as the chief civilian at the base. He was supervisor of the Storage and Transportation Division and ended his federal career as Deputy Director of Distribution at the Defense Depot in Ogden. He was always proud to be a government employee and spoke highly of his colleagues at the base. He considered them to be the finest people with whom one could work. One of his most rewarding positions was managing the transportation and equipment needs for the Minuteman, Titan, and BMOC missile systems. He retired from federal service in 1986. He was an active member of numerous employee organizations. He was a life member of the Air Force Association, whose primary role was servic e to others. He served as President of two chapters and was also Utah State President of the National Defense Transportation Association. In 1982 the four transportation organizations in Utah honored him as the Utah State Transportation Man of the Year. Lynn was also a member of the National Defense Transportation Association and The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Following his federal career Lynn worked at Clearwater Trucking Company for four years. Lynn's surviving family includes his oldest sister Helen Carnahan of Roy, his devoted wife Anna Beth, two daughters, Shelly James (Cindy), Santa Cruz, California; Beth Ann Smith (Rodger), North Ogden; two sons, Mark Sheldon, Ogden; and James T. (Joy), Tucson, Arizona; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (and four due in the spring). Also surviving is sister-in-law Jyme Summers. Lynn enjoyed many blessings in his life and will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family extends special thanks to the caring staff at Heritage Pa rk who showed Daddy and all of Lynn's family and friends great kindness and compassion this last month. Mr. Summers is preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers Ben and Tim and sister Kass. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Taylor, Lynn Morgan LAYTON - Lynn Morgan Taylor died January 9, 2005 of complications from a chronic illness in Layton, Utah. Lynn was born April 14, 1952 in Ogden, Utah to David and Zona. His youth was spent in Riverdale where he attended Riverdale Elementary, TH Bell Junior High, and Bonneville High School. He married Kathryn Myers in 1970. They were blessed with two children, and later divorced. He was in the Army from 1970 to 1973 where he patrolled the 49th parallel in Korea. He married Toni Lynne Tanner in 1985. Lynn was an Eagle Scout, and loved drag racing, the outdoors, and being with friends and family. He was employed for 34 years at the Defense Rail Center and Hill Air Force Base. He is survived by those he cherished; Toni, four children, Shannon M. (Lisa) Taylor, Val (Tamie) Tanner, Shawna Kay Cragun, And Brandy (Dave) Woodbury, eight grand girls, his mother Zona, and three sisters, Gale Ann Child, Sheryl Manning, and Robin Rose. Wayment, Russell WARREN - Russell Wayment, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at his home in Warren, Utah. He died of natural causes. He was born December 19, 1910 in Warren, Utah, to William and Elsie Wade Wayment. Russell married Florence Flowers on March 25, 1938. She passed away 27 years ago. His children are Glynn F. (Chyrrl) Wayment, Stanton Wayment, Dr. Lowell (Linda) Wayment, John (Carrie) Wayment, and Joan (Dr. David Hatt, deceased) Hatt. His son Stanton preceded him in death. Russell has 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Russell was a dairyman and farmer all of his life. He took great pride in his herd of dairy cows. He loved working in the fields raising hay, grain, corn, tomatoes, and sugar beets. Russell loved being involved in the community. He served on many committees, some of which included the Farm Bureau, Weber River Water Commissioner, and Beet Growers. Weber County Zoning Board was one of his favorite committees. Russell loved to play baseball. He play o n school team and participated with the Old Timer's baseball team. One of the highlights of his life was the opportunity to represent the United States on a people to people mission to Russia, Czechoslovakia, and six other European Countries. He loved meeting with the agricultural representatives. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was also very important to Russell. He served in many leadership capacities. He enjoyed the opportunity to support missionaries as they served the Lord. Russell loved being with his children and grandchildren. He continued to be a part of their lives until his death. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Warren Ward Chapel, 900 North 5900 West. A viewing will be held Friday at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ward Chapel from 10 to 10:45 a.m. He will be buried in the Warren Cemetery next to his wife Florence, and his son Stanton.
