He was born March 29, 1935 to Ray and Zina Andrew. Sterling was an accomplished trap shooter, winning many contest and tournaments. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his brother, David (Ilah), two nephews, Rodney (Marcie) and Kelly (Becky) and one cousin, Randy (Stephanie) Keyes. Barker of Ogden, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend passed away after a long battle of Kidney Failure, Heart Disease and Diabetes Carl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kingston Ward. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1961 and attended Weber State College. On July 7, 1983 Carl married the love of his life Sandra A. Payne. Carl worked for Parsons, On Site Security, Job Corp, IMC and Lee's Donuts. Carl Owned and Operated his own business Diversified Orthodontic Laboratory of Utah for many years. He volunteered at Head Start. He was a life long member of Stags Car Club. A member of AIM (Amputees in Motion). He devotedly loved his wife Sandra. He loved spending quality time with his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed rebuilding cars, camping and making jokes for giving and receiving laughter. Carl always had love and time for everyone. He was loved and will be missed by all who had the opportuni ty to know him. He is survived by his Wife Sandra, his son Mel Payne and his daughter Christine M. Barker. Black, Geneva HELPER - Geneva Josephine Bonacci Black, age 91, our dear Aunt Jenny, went peacefully to join her loved ones on January 14, 2005. She was born in Helper, Utah, on August 11, 1913 to Joseph and Josephine Scavo Bonacci. She married Raymond O. Black on December 29, 1945 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was blessed on February 22, 1976 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helper. Geneva tenderly cared for her husband in the final years of his life until he died in her arms on June 26, 2000, after 54 years of marriage. Geneva was full of energy, optimism and had a great sense of humor. Her life was filled with service to others. She served as a den mother, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 56 years (where she was involved with Girls State), and she served in the Castleview Hospital Auxiliary for 31 years, which included being past president. She was a member of the Ladies of Elks, a member and former President of the DRGW Veterans Auxiliary, and active in numerous other volunteer organizations. She received several awards in recognition of her dedicated community service. She was named Woman of the Year by the Utah American Legion Auxiliary for 1986-1987 and the Castleview Hospital volunteer of the year in 1992, and she received the Frist Humanitarian award Castleview Hospital in 1996. She worked many years as a salesclerk at Cornet in Helper, and was a 25 year member of the Helper Business and Professional Women's Club. She loved to sing with her church choir throughout her life. Geneva was a lifelong resident of Helper and was honored as a Grand Marshall of the Helper City Christmas Light Parade. Survivors include sister-in-law Edna Mae Glen, Mesa, AZ; step-daughter, Loretta (Frank) Mastroianna, North Glen, CO; four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who adore her; a community of wonderful friends, and her special canine companion Sophie. Calton Jr., Archie NO. OGDEN - Archie Calton passed away Wednesday evening, January 12, 2005, at home from congestive heart failure and emphysema, he was surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. I was born July 26, 1934 in Toms Town, Missouri to Vivian B Calton and Archie A Calton Sr. My early youth was spent running the hills of the Ozark Mountains with my dog Brownie. I was schooled in a one-room school for the first three years. In 1951 we moved to Ogden, Utah. It was in May of 1954 that I met the love of my life and the girl of my dreams, Dorris M Walker (my beloved Dory Mae), we were married on August 5th of that same year and my life was fulfilled with that wonderful woman. She bore me two children, Tamara (Tammy) Leo and Steven Michael who both, in turn, made us grandparents. We were blessed in celebrating 50 years of marriage this past year. I worked for the Department of Defense at Hill Air Force Base for 36 years, retiring in 1987 as a foreman in the Jet Engine Shop. I also spent 11 years in the Utah National Guard B Battery 222nd FA. I volunteered at the Roy Historical Museum for five years and I also did a lot of volunteer work with the Telephone Pioneers of America. I was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Ogden. I was preceded in death by my parents, sister Louisa, brothers Virgil (Bill), Robert and Howard. I am survived by my loving wife Dorris Calton; one sister Helen D (Garland) McCoy; two children Tamara L (Dennis) Haislip and Steven Michael (Christina) Calton; five grandchildren Misty Mae Haislip, Zachary Bryan Robertson, Bryonna Calton, Torrie and Alex Chotia; and one great-grandson Gabriel C Bybee. I am also survived by three godchildren, Teesha Wagner, Kash Amidan and Patricia Nolan as well as extended family and many friends. Cardon, John Salt Lake City - John Dee Cardon, 71, passed away suddenly of a Cerebral hemorrhage on January 15, 2005, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born October 10, 1933, in Ogden, Utah to William Ernest Cardon and Eva Elizabeth Wadsworth. He married Evelynn Virginia Knowles on December 7, 1956, in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of three sons. John attended school in the Ogden area, graduating from Weber High School and Weber College. He loved sports, especially track and fast pitch softball. He graduated from the University of Utah in Electrical Engineering. John spent 2 years on a mission for the LDS Church, serving in the French Mission, then two years in the U. S. Army. He began work for Hewlett Packard as a Design Engineer and the latter half as Personnel Director in Colorado Springs, CO., retiring after 32 years. They moved to St. George, Utah. Singing with the S.U. Heritage Choir was his greatest love. John and Evelynn served an LDS mission at Adam ondi Ahman . He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life, serving in numerous callings, including Bishop, Counselor, teacher and Exec. Sec. He was loved by everyone who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Evelynn; sons Paul Nolan (Marci) of Colorado Springs, CO; Mark Dee (Nancy) of Santa Clara, UT; and Nathan Jay (Gina) of Colorado Springs, CO.; nine grandchildren: Tyson, Kayla, Alyssa, Cassidy, Lauren, Dallin, Savannah, Rachel, and Aubrie. Conger "Couger" died January 14, 2005 of Esophageal Cancer. He was born August 13, 1936 to Ernie Ray and Merle Anderson Conger in Tremonton, UT. He graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State University for two years. While at USU Gary played basketball in 1959 and again for Air Force for three years and lettered four years in track. In 1949 and 50 he won A.A.U. Boxing Competition, in 1952 he won the Golden Gloves Championship. He lettered three years in basketball, baseball, and was All Region and All State Champion in 1955. Gary married Sharon Theurer and they were later divorced. He then married and spent the last 22 years with Jean Eskelson Conger. He served four years in the National Guard and four years in the Air force. Gary was a member of FOE 2919 and was also an avid bird hunter and a terrific BBQ cook. He worked for 35 years at Thiokol Corp and retired in 1995. Gary is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Curtis R. Conger (Ramona); daughter, Cristi Jo Fiedel, step children; Rebecca Parsons, Cynthia Eskelson, James David Eskelson; two grandchildren, Brandon Stimpson and T.J. Stimpson; step grandchildren, Jeff, Amber and Jade Parsons, Jamie Peden, Anthony Eskelson and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother; David, and three sisters; Connie Richardson, Jolene (Sid) Culter, Terry (David) Anderson, and many nieces and nephews. Johnsen, Dell BOUNTIFUL - Dell Earl Johnsen, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 15, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dell was born on November 7, 1921 in Goshen, Idaho to Hyrum Parley Johnsen and Elizabeth Chapman. He married Cleo B. Johnson in the Logan LDS Temple on June 26, 1944. They are the parents of eight children. He started Mr. Dell's Food in 1973 in North Kansas City, Missouri. The business later moved to Kearney, Missouri where the company expanded and led to processing frozen hash browns for distribution to retail grocery stores throughout the country. Dell was an avid golfer, gardener, and loved to watch his grandsons play baseball. He always had a project, a plan, or a goal to meet the challenges of life even until his last day on this earth. During his last years he lovingly cared for his wife Cleo who had suffered a stroke. He was an inspiration to his family and friends. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. he served faithfully in many callings. He served as bishop of the Liberty Ward in Liberty, Missouri, first counselor in the Independence Stake, and as Stake President of the Liberty Stake. When asked what his greatest accomplishment was, he would say "My wife and my children." He is survived by his wife Cleo, six daughters, Sheila (Bud) Cambell, Bountiful Utah, Ronda (Len) Gabrielson, St George, Utah, Margo (Allen) Pogue, Blue Springs, Missouri, Marla Kamereth, Las Vegas, Nevada, Karla (Paul) Jameson, Kearney, Missouri, Andrea Johnsen, Chandler Arizona. Two sons, Kurt (Karen) Johnsen, Kearney, Missouri, Eric (Teresa) Johnsen, Layton, Utah, and five brothers Deloy Yorgensen, Glen Johnsen, Dean Johnsen, Harold Johnsen, and Bill Johnson, two sisters, Arlene Armstrong, and Thelma Howell. Neal, Paul Paul Neal, age 85, passed away at home on January 14, 2005 in Vernal surrounded by his son, daughter, and granddaughter. He was born September 10, 1919, in Kiefer, Oklahoma to Oma Mae Palmer and Glen Marshall Neal. Paul married the love of his life, Violet Richens on July 1, 1942 in Malad, Idaho. She died in April 1985. Paul loved his family, playing the guitar and singing, gardening, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and reading. Paul was very proud of his Cherokee heritage and was a member of the Cherokee Nation. As a young man Paul served in the U. S. Army during WWII as a radio controller. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. His trade by profession was a cement contractor that took him to many places, including California where he and you young family built a home and lived for a while. Paul was very honest and his word was all you needed. He was very protective and compassionate about his family. Paul leaves behind children who love and will and greatly miss him: Ronnie Neal of Vernal, Linda (David) Christensen of Ogden, and Evelyn (Bob) Vorwaller of Ogden. Paul also leaves behind 19 grandchildren who adore him, 37 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by brothers Delford Neal and Norman Neal, and sisters Mary Medlin, Kerma Breedlove, Olive Roquet, and Doris Webb. Paul was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Violet Richens Neal, daughter Elaine Mahaney, son Bobby Rynes, a grandson, a great grandson, his mother and father, and brothers Howard Neal and Dewey Neal. Paul loved people and never met a person that he didn't consider a friend. His family feels blessed to have been such a close part of his life. Nelson, Richard D. OGDEN - Richard D. Nelson, Husband, Dad and Grandpa passed away January 15, 2005 at the age of 78 at McKay-Dee Hospital with his Wife, Son and a special nurse at his side. He was born in Ogden on April 5, 1926 to Elmer P. and Elizabeth Wintle Nelson. He married Arlene Ruth Wheelwright on August 7, 1947. He left school at the age of 17 to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served onboard the aircraft carrier, USS Saginaw Bay. The ship and its crew received five battle stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and the American Area Ribbon. When he returned home from the war, Dick finished High School and graduated from Weber College on the G.I. Bill. He was an Honorary Life Member of the Elks Lodge Ogden BPOE #719 and served as Exalted Ruler in 1971 and 1972. He was an All-State Ritual Officer and attended national conventions across the country. He worked as a Missile Handler at Hill Field and worked up to Aircraft Material Specialist. He retired from Hill Field at the age of 62 after forty years of service. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth, his son Rodney D. Nelson and two grandsons, Michael Richard and Brandon Darwin Nelson that he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a great friend and could strike up a conversation with just about anybody. He was a very proud man and nothing meant more to him than his family and his country. We will miss his kind and loving ways, but he will live on in our hearts until we meet again. He was born December 3, 1922 in Paul, Idaho, son of George Myron and Ethel Burton Payne. He grew up on the family farm in Syracuse, Utah. On August 8, 1942, he married Della Phillips. His distinguished military career included service in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was awarded Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two Oak Clusters, Air Medal with six Oak Clusters, Defense Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1972. He retired to the family farm in Syracuse where he built his o wn house, was a gentleman farmer, and pursued a second career in the auto salvage business. Earl was a kind and patient man who was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, as well as good and helpful friend to many, many people. He will be very much missed by all who know and love him. He was preceded in death by his father George Myron Payne, his mother Ethel Burton Payne, his infant son Roger Lee Payne, his brothers Burton Payne and Noel Payne, his sister Marian Jorgensen, and his wife Della Phillips Payne. He is survived by his sons David E. Payne of Paris, Idaho, Donald K. Payne (Lori) of Syracuse, Utah, R. Allen Payne (Pegan) of Bolinas, CA; and Christopher D. Terrazas, Joe OGDEN - Joe M. Terrazas, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away January 15, 2005, at the age of 79, after a valiant fight with Alzheimer's. Joe was born and raised in Delta, CO, the son of Jose and Pricella Maestas Terrazas. He married Eina Silva on June 10, 1950 in Delta, CO. Joe served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from HAFB after 31 years as a forklift driver and crane operator. He started his working career on the farms of Colorado. He had a successful yard care business for 20 years and was very proud of his work. Joe loved to play golf and had been an avid bowler and even bowled on television. Joe also loved hunting and fishing. He had served as Scout Master with the scouting program at St. Joseph's. He is survived by his wife Eina, daughters JoAnn (Larry) Krumperman and Barbara (Mike) Jones. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Cody (Melissa) Jones, Kira, Allie and Adam Jones, Lauren Krumperman and two great-grandchil dren, Braden and Joscelyn Jones; four brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Lakeview Hospital and Orchard Cove and Hospice for their professional care and concern for Joe in his last days. She was born on March 28, 1939 to James L and Vera M Groves Nelson in Ogden. She attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High in 1957. Ruth attended Painters Cosmetology College while working for Dr. Royd Stocks. After receiving her license in 1958 she worked at Vanity and Mademoiselle beauty salons. In May 1961 she married Leroy Woodie Woodbury. He died in June 1988. Ruth started her own business, Central Towing Dispatch in 1974. She was still working at the business when she became ill and recently had to retire. Ruth was a member of the Golden Spike Foot Printers Association Chapter 27 and was the first woman to become President of the chapter for 1994-1995. Ruth is survived by one sister Elaine Kohler, two loving sons Nelson (Debbie) Woodbury and Dave (Brandy) Woodbury, four grandchildren Corey and Christie Clark, Chase Taylor and Megan (Matt) Smith, a gr eat granddaughter Elena Clark, three nephews Bart (Diane) Nelson, Dan (Jewel) Nelson, Glenn (Heidi) Kohler and three nieces Lynne (Kirk) Harmon, Mary Jo (Randy) Collins, Sue (Scott) Hardmon. She is also survived by one special friend Bo dog. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a dear brother Jim Nelson which she shared the same birthday and her dog Hunter. Workman, Merlin Horne Merlin Horne Workman 1923 - 2005 On January 13th, 2005, our Delightful Father, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, was finally taken from this mortal existence to reunite once again with his Eternal Companion of 55 years, Doris Rae Koger Workman, after waiting somewhat patiently for almost 2 years in the capable and caring hands of Heritage Care in American Fork. The reunion with his parents, Meltiar Hatch and Edna Horne Workman, along with his brother Grant, and his sister Ruth, and a granddaughter Melissa, must have been sweet indeed. His surviving younger brother Dale and sisters Beth, Gloria and Eilene, along with their spouses, have been so supportive and were always loved deeply. Honored to be their children are Mark (Connie), Paul (Bonnie), Rae Ann (Glen) and Myron (Christy). Sixteen grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews added so much joy to their lives. Merlin was always proud to share with others the accomplishments of his children and their families. He loved his family and friends and treasured all the pleasurable experiences throughout his long life. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 17th at the Highland 7th Ward 5212 W.
