'Buster' was born October 31, 1923 in Evantson, Wyoming to George Leslie Brown Sr. and Flossie Marshall Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Spencer Brown Ashton. He is survived by his wife Geraldine, their four daughters, Vicki Ashton, (Kent) Danville, CA; Paula Bennion (Keith) Murray, UT; Lezli Boggs (Lance) Corona Del Mar, CA;, and Michele Harris, Holladay, UT, and a wonderful legacy of 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Florence Howe of Roy, UT. His family was everything to him. Buster served in the Navy in the South Pacific during WW II. He married Geraldine R. Stephens in 1953 and was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years. He was presented the Ca rnegie Hero Award for saving a 9-year-old boy from drowning in an ice-covered pond in Evanston, Wyoming in November 1955. Buster was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities over the years. As a member of the Roy 8th Ward he served as Scout master, High Priest Group Leader, Stake missionary, Ward missionary and faithful home teacher. Buster and Gerrie served a full-time mission in Akron, OH in 1987-88. Together they served for many years in the Ogden, UT temple as ordinance workers. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous manner and his big hearted ways. He had a gift for loving people and animals that was unique to him. He touched the lives of many with his smile, his funny sayings and songs, his genuine greeting and handshake to all. He was one to always take time to offer a kind word and compliment to every one he met. He was a genuine friend, always willing to offer a hand to anyone in need. Those close to Buster knew t hey could always rely on his love and loyalty. Our lives have been forever changed because of his influence. May we be better people as we aspire to live up to the principles and values he taught by word and example. Thank you Dad for this wonderful legacy! Fredrickson, Estelle Kelleher Estelle Kelleher FredricksonShe touched the face of God - our love and light passed from this life on Friday, January 21, 2005. She was surrounded by her family whom she adored. She was 82 years old, born August 10, 1922 in Evanston, Wyoming to Daniel J. Kelleher and Stella Murray. She was raised in Ogden where she graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College. She was married to Lloyd K. Fredrickson in 1943 in Wisconsin.Estelle loved her children, grandchildren, and friends. She was happiest shopping with her daughter, enjoying her sewing club, playing bridge, or walking her loving dog, Fluffy. She was active in the Catholic church and attended Mass. She is survived by two daughters and one son; Ruthann (Merv) Lambright, Diane (Paul) Thomas, and Scott Fredrickson; one brother, Robert Kelleher; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, three brothers and Fluffy. Martinez, Frabiciano Castulo Together Again LAYTON - Frabiciano Fred Castulo Martinez, 81, our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter on January 20, 2005. He was born March 23, 1923 in Del Norte, Colorado to Carlotta Juanita and Jose Perfecto Martinez. He was educated in Del Norte schools until he joined the military. Later he received his High School Diploma from Davis High School in 1967. He was a Disabled Veteran of World War II where he served in the Army's 821st Military Police Company which traveled throughout Europe including Bastogne, Belgium. One of his memorable moments in his military career was serving under and meeting General George S. Patton, Jr., during the Battle of the Bulge. Dad helped direct General Patton's Army to the battle and then joined in the conflict with his unit. Following the war he settled in Del Norte, Colorado, married his true love, Bertha Maria Lopez on December 22, 1947. In 1953 he mov ed to Layton, Utah with his family. He retired in 1986 after 36 years of dedicated Civilian Service from Hill AFB. In 1985 he traveled to Europe with his family and visited Arlon, Belgium. He reunited with the Belgian family he had kept in touch with since WWII. He visited the Battle of Bastogne Memorial and other WWII memorials remembering his fallen comrades. He enjoyed fly-fishing in his younger days, was a skilled carpenter and a handyman that always lent a hand to friends and family in the neighborhood. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, walkingseeing the sights and listening to the sounds of nature. He enjoyed visiting with his family; telling corny jokes and storytelling. He was a history buff and had wonderful recall of what he read and saw. He was a member of St Rose of Lima Catholic Church and assisted at numerous funeral dinners and functions. Daddy was a remarkable man, full of faith and devotion to our Lord, always willing to help those in need. Surviving are his three c hildren: Virginia (Mac) McKee, Michael (Marissa) Martinez and Consuelo (Lawrence) Evaro. Six incredible Grandchildren: Adrienne, Mark, and Jessica McKee; Benjamin and Theresa Martinez; and Alejandro (Alex) Evaro. Also surviving are two sisters: Cordelia M. Jenkins (Oakland, CA) and Ruby M. Blaylock (Hayward, CA). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bertha in 1993; his son Charles; his parents, brother Jose Gilberto and sisters Albina and JoAnn. Daddy - Grandpa Chano... Montoya, Manuel OGDEN - Manuel Montoya, 87, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2005 at The Gardens Assisted Living in Ogden. He was born April 5, 1917 in Nacimiento, New Mexico. He married Asusena Martinez, she preceded him in death on December 3, 1963. He then married Virginia Martinez on May 10, 1986 in Ogden. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. The family would like to express their gratitude to Manuel's daughter Lorraine for her special care of her father, and also to The Gardens Assisted Living staff and IHC Hospice of Utah. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Montoya; children, Cleo Quintana, Phoenix, AZ; Gavina Morin, Pharr, TX; Genevie (Bob) Hooker, Rifle, CO; Lorraine (John Buehler) Castorena, Ogden; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Sylvana Vasquez, Rosa Sanchez, Alfredo and Jerry, Carlota Lovato, all of New Mexico; Chris and Norma, Phil and Ufelia, Frank and Elosise, all of Ogden; his step-children and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elsie, brothers Fred and Elieseo, and his first wife. Sevy, Wilford Ray Wilford Ray Sevy, 73, of Payson, AZ, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 in Scottsdale, AZ. Mr. Sevy joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years retiring from the Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant. Ray was President of Phoenix Institute of Technology in Phoenix, AZ for many years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Payson, AZ and the Masonic Lodge in North Charleston, SC. Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia; daughter, Melanie Lee (Harry) Houghton of Lincolnton, GA; sons, Gregory Ray Sevy of Idaho City, ID and Brent Ray (Cindy) Sevy of Iva, SC; stepsons, Michael A. (Barbara) McClanahan of Mesa, AZ and Gregg L. McCLanahan of Anchorage, AK; brothers, Ward Larry (Carole) and V.M. (Flora) Sevy of Roy, UT; eight grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Umpleby, William Howard William Howard Umpleby December 4, 1917 - January 22, 2005 Bill passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, January 22, 2005 at the home of his daughter in West Point, Utah. He had been suffering from a lingering illness for many years. William Howard was born December 4, 1917 in Bingham, Utah to William Howard Umpleby and Lucy Steed Umpleby. He followed a sister, Mary, who was a year older. The family's father and beloved husband was killed two years later in a mine accident at Kennecott Copper where he worked, so the family moved back to Salt Lake City and began to piece their lives back together. He attended several schools in the Salt Lake and St. George areas. Because of this moving his closest friends were his mother and his sister. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northwest Mission which then included Oregon, Washington, Canada and Alaska. Upon returning he met and fell in love with Hilda Hadfield and together they had two children, Diane and Dean and an infant son , William who died shortly after birth. He was drafted into the Navy in 1945 and was released at the end of the war. Hilda passed away in 1947. He met and married another wonderful woman, Iris Barton. The family moved from Layton to Kaysville in 1954. Together they had five children: Naomi, Blaine, Holly, Ann and Alese. Iris passed away in December of 1979. In April of 1981 he married Frances Donohoe who was a beloved grandmother to many of his grandchildren. Frances died in 1999. He held many church positions, but his favorite was always as a teacher. Bill worked most of his life at Hill Air Force Base and was eventually promoted to Administrative Officer over quality control for the Minuteman Missile maintenance program. He retired in 1973 and was involved in many volunteer service activities until his illness. He also enjoyed many hobbies. He loved fishing, enjoyed square dancing with his neighbors and friends, and was noted for his amateur photography, jewelry creations and flower gard en. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wives, one infant son, William, son, Blaine, two son-in-laws, Loyd Seely and Ronald Clark, and one grandson, Michael Seely. He is survived by 6 children, 32 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and his sister Mrs. (Philip) Mary Blood. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at 12 p.m. at the Kaysville 9th Ward Chapel, 201 So. 600 E., Kaysville, Utah. Welling, Enid FREMONT, California - Enid Welling, 85, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2005. Enid was born on January 10, 1920 to Willard Marvin and Edith Ellen Morgan Welling. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1938 and then attended the University of Utah, graduating in 1941 with a BA degree in Sociology, after which she entered the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of California, Berkeley, where she spent two years. She received a certificate to practice social work. At the end of WWII she worked in private child care agencies in San Francisco and Salt Lake City. After this, she worked for 24 years in that state's Child Welfare Services programs. She was employed by the Oregon State Public Welfare Commission, where she was assistant director of Oregon State's Child Welfare Program when she left that agency to enroll in the graduate School of Social Work at the University of Utah in 1965. She secured her Master's degree in 1966. She was then employed by the Fe deral Government and worked for the U.S. Children's Bureau in Washington, D.C. and the Federal Regional Offices in San Francisco and Seattle. At one point she even took eight months off to spend time in South America. She retired in 1983, returning to her original home of Fielding, Utah. Enid loved every job she held and every child she ever knew, always wishing that our nation would more fully appreciate and provide for its greatest resource, our children. Enid was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served there as a visiting teacher. Enid will be missed by her three nephews: Robert Scott McClellan, Oregon City, OR, Patrick Hardy McClellan, Fremont, CA and John Sanford McClellan, Ogden, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Maureen. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fielding Stake Center located at 4375 West 15600 North, Fielding. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Fielding Cemetery.
