Bench, Brandon James PLEASANT VIEW - Brandon James Bench returned to his Heavenly Father on January 24, 2005. Our precious son, brother and grandson was born on July 14, 1989 in Ogden, Utah to James Hale Bench and Jennifer Christine Blanchard Bench. Brandon attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his family and participated in Boy Scouts. He received his arrow of light and was working to advance further in the scouting program. Brandon was loved by the scouts and his leaders. Despite health challenges and handicaps he proudly attended Weber High School where he has many friends. He enjoyed the socialization and many outings with his classmates. Brandon loved chocolate ice cream, family outings, swimming and watching movies with his family. At the age of 8, Brandon was bit by a rattlesnake earning him the nickname of Rattlesnake Jack. Surviving are his parents, brothers Steven Earl and Spencer Hale Bench. Grandparents Edwin and Martha Bench, Oakley, ID a nd Kenneth and Joan Blanchard, Ogden. He is also survived by his great-grandmother, Caroline Bench, Burley, ID and many uncles, aunts and cousins whom he loved. OGDEN - Roy Harold Campbell, 84, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at his home of causes incident to age. He was born December 11, 1920 in Valley, Nebraska, a son of Harold E. and Jean Mulendor Campbell. On May 17, 1940, Roy married Freda E. Garner in Ogden. He attended schools in Laketown and graduated from West High School. He lived in the Ogden area most of his life. Roy was a car foreman for the O.U.R. & D. and Union Pacific Railroads retiring after 42 years of service. He enjoyed spending time at the Eagles Lodge. Surviving are his wife Freda of Ogden; five sons and seven daughters, Larry (Jean) Campbell, Arizona; Wayne (June) Campbell, Slaterville; Scott Campbell, Michael (Cindy) Campbell and Bruce Campbell, all of Ogden; Judy (Merlyn) Owens and Carma Mangel, both of Harrisville; Lois (Scott) Durrant and Marlene (Kent) Wright, both of Roy; Dawna (Ray) DeHart, West Warren; Janice (Roger) Redmond, Holladay; Christy (Keith) Redfern, Harrisville; 38 grandchildren , 79 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Clawson, Linda Together Again SUNSET - Linda Clawson joined her eternal companion and sweetheart on January 24, 2005. She was born May 21, 1944 in Logan, Utah, the daughter of Sherman D. Pete and Norma Stone Coleman. She married Stephen Clawson September 1, 1961 in Sunset, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Stephen passed away July 30, 2002. Linda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an avid doll collector and enjoyed doing crafts. She was a devoted wife, mother and was a friend to everyone. Surviving are her children: Michael David and wife Robyn, Stephen Andrew and wife Sherri, and Lisa, four grandchildren, Katy, Kenzi, Stephen (Mike), and Kenedi. Also surviving her father Sherman D. Coleman and brother Robert D. Bob Coleman. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen, son Eric, her mother, and sister. Cottam, Rebecca June MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE - Rebecca June Cottam, age 21, was born September 10, 1983 in Ogden, Utah to Elmer Donald and Sandra June Albiston Cottam. Becca returned to her Heavenly Father on Monday, January 24th, 2005, in an automobile accident having completed her mission here. She graduated from Fremont High School and Seminary in 2002. She earned her Young Womanhood Award. She attended Dixie College for one year then transferred to Weber State University where she was a junior majoring in accounting. She was an accountant and server at the family restaurant, Melina's Mexican Restaurant in Farr West. She was an honor student and excelled in everything she tried. She loved snowboarding, line dancing and traveling. She was a joy to be around and loved everyone she met. She had the most wonderful, vibrant smile in this world. She especially loved her 19 nieces and nephews. She is survived by her parents in Slaterville; seven brothers and two sisters: Donald, Seattle, Washington; Terri Strand, Harrisville; Thomas, Slaterville; Maree Heaton, Slaterville; Joseph (Alicia), Pleasant View; Dr. David (Holley), Durham, North Carolina; Benjamin (Joni), Mountain Green; William (Misty), Pocatello, Idaho; and John (Dallas), Mountain View, Wyoming. She is also survived by one grandmother, June Albiston of St. George, Utah; and 19 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas and Matie Cottam, her Pampa, Ray Albiston and a niece, Arianne Jacobs. She had a special friend, Cory Stegen. Hodson, 80, passed away at Brigham City Nursing and Rehabilitation on Tuesday, January 25, 2005. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 18, 1924. Reta was the third to the last survivors of Bird Carr Hughes and Rhoda Warburton Hughes of Evanston, WY. She married Lyle Hodson on July 13, 1996. She was a homemaker for many years and has lived in the Tremonton valley for 29 years. She was also known for her friendly attitude when she was a waitress at the Cross-X. Reta made many donations to various charities here in Tremonton. She enjoyed writing poetry and took great pleasure in traveling with her husband, Lyle. Reta is survived by her husband, three daughters: Rhoda Norene (Bill) Wilson, Las Vegas, NV; June Darlene (Doyle) Conklin, Lander, WY; Esther Marlene (Gary) Rothwell, Denver, CO; eight stepchildren: DeAnn Clippinger, Denise Manore, Janice Nelson, Jack Hodson, Peggy Cope, Pam Olson, Larry Hodson, and Lynn Hodson all of Utah; two siste rs: Edna Adams and Mary Searsy; one sister-in-law, Rebecca Hughes; 64 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Benedict Kramer and two step-children: Lyle Blair Hodson and Douglas Hodson. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. OGDEN - Joseph Henry Long, 88, died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania, a son of Joseph Henry and Emma Reeder Long. On November 30, 1946, Joseph married Isla Goodling in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Ogden. Joe was a veteran of World War II, serving his country with the U.S. Army Air Corps in Guam. He worked for the U.S. Government for many years and retired from Hill Air Force Base following 31 years of service. Joe's hobbies included fishing, hunting, reading and watching sports. (He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles). He loved the chance to take his grandchildren to the fish farm. Family was the most important thing to him. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Isla, of Ogden; four children, Nadine Bonnie (Larry) Roberts, Haymarket, VA; Joseph H. Long II, Ogden; Judy Long, Colorado Springs, CO; Dennis Long, Layton; and eight grandc hildren. Preceding him in death was his oldest son, Robert E. Long. Luke, Elvin Melroy CLEARFIELD - Elvin Melroy Luke passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2005 of pneumonia at the Davis Hospital in Layton. Elvin was born in Payson, Utah July 10, 1920, the son of Melroy Luke and Sadie Stewart. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII at Ft. Lewis in Seattle, Washington. He married Dessie Twitchell in 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1959. He was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a heavy equipment operator in Evanston, Wyoming and retired from Uinta Co. after 20 years. He will always be remembered for his sweet and kind disposition. He had such a big heart. He loved everyone and made friends every where he went. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, his three children: Linda Lucas, Luellen Tolson and Gerald Luke; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He will be missed greatly. Mortensen, Gertrude Jensen Gertrude Jensen Mortensen Died January 25th 2005 at age 94 in Halfway Oregon in consequences of age. She was born January 25th, 1911 in Hyrum, Utah. She was the youngest child of William H Jensen and Alice Wilson. She married Boyd Iverson on the 22nd July 1936. They were later divorced. She remarried Heber R. Mortensen on 23 August 1957. He preceded her in death. She graduated June 1953 from Utah State Agriculture College and was an elementary school teacher for many years in Weber County Schools. After her retirement, she enjoyed teaching adults to read. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifetime member of the LDS church. She was preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters and one son, William Boyd Iverson. Her children, Trudy Iverson Dunn of Sultan, Washington and Alma Boyd Iverson of Halfway, Oregon, survive her. At time of her death, she had seven grandchildren and seven great-gran dchildren. He was born February 2, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colorado, a son of Joe D. and Adeline Gutierrez Salazar. He moved to Ogden as a young boy and attended Mound Fort Elementary and Ben Lomond High School. LeRoy married Nora Nicky Nelmida on August 30, 1963 in Murray. They were later divorced. He married Eleanor Martinez in 1987. They later divorced. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and enjoyed attending services very much. LeRoy worked in construction throughout his life. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and the outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, sitting outdoors and visiting, and cooking. He always had something for visitors to eat. Surviving are one son and one daughter, Leigh R. (Annette) Salazar, Ogden; M. Lesa Salazar Sepulveda, North Ogden; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters, David Salazar , Pete Salazar, Bernie Salazar, Flora Diarte and Angelina Salazar. Preceding him in death were his daughter Nora Louise Salazar, brothers Tony, Rudy, and Joe Salazar, and sisters Virginia Romero and Andrea Salazar. GEORGE, Utah - Alta Marie Talbot, age 90, passed away Tuesday, January 25,2005, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. She was born May 31, 1914, inBlackfoot, Idaho, a daughter of Edwin and Rose May Smith Taylor. She married GlenRobert Thompson April 24, 1934 in Ogden, Utah. He died August 7, 1976, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. March 7, 1990, Alta and Millard Ellis Talbot were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, and their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. Alta was born in Blackfoot, and she and her family eventually migrated to Ogden, Utah, where she grew up. After Alta and Glen were married, Glen became employed with Utah Power and Light and Alta was a stay-at-home Mom until her children were all in school, at which time she went to work for Sears & Roebuck. When their children were grown, Alta and Glen returned to complete their GED's at Bonneville High School. Alta was an active member of T he Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many capacities, to include Relief Society, Primary, and the Extraction program. She was also a 4-H Leader and Scout Leader, and was very active in civic affairs, such as, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. An accomplished musician, Alta played the piano, organ, banjo, mandolin, and accordion, with or without music. She also had a beautiful alto voice. Alta was a truepioneer woman of many talents, including needlepoint, canning, sewing, even making her own soap. She was a great teacher of life skills. Alta was referred to as a wonderful "super" wife, and a patient and caring grandmother who was enduring, unselfish, and giving. She truly loved her children and grandchildren. Alta is survived by her husband, Millard, of St. George, UT; five children, Glen Robert (Randolyn) Thompson, Jr., of Hurricane, UT; John Hughes (Mary) Thompson, of Washington, UT; Stephen Taylor (Evangeline) Thompson of Seoul, South Korea; Marian Rose (Stephen) Uhler, of Omaha, NE and Shelby Susan (Derek) Hall, of Olympia, WA; 20 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, JoAnn Jones, of Morgan, UT, Millard (Susan) Talbot, Jr., Bruce (Cindy) Talbot, and LaRue (Russell) Dawes, all of Layton, UT; and four step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Glen; four sisters; and one brother. Talbot, Evelyn Evelyn Taylor Talbot Roy - Evelyn Taylor Talbot our beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, with her family around her. She was 94. Mom was born in Beloit, Wisconsin to Emanuel C. and Nettie Taylor on March 14, 1910. On October 30, 1928 she married Charles S. Talbot in Oregon. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Temple on April 17, 1980. In 1942 they moved to Willard where she lived until she moved to Roy in 1990. Dad passed away November 27, 1980. Mom is survived by seven of her eight children: Lorraine (Reese) Facer, Jack (Betty) Talbot, Gayle Hale, Dennis (Sharon) Talbot, Myrna (Steve) Farrar, DeVon (Paula) Talbot, Brent (Robyn) Talbot, her twin sister Ethelyn Lehman, 28 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Donald Talbot, two brothers, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Evelyn's family wou ld like to thank the staff at Country Pines Retirement Home and Heritage Park Care Center for the wonderful care and all the love they gave her over the last five years.
