Harold G. Aikens passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005. He was born to Harold and Eldora Aikens in Ogden, and has been a lifetime resident. Graduating from Ogden High School, he married his high school sweetheart Ronella Tillotson on Feb. 10 1943, just days before leaving to serve in the U.S. Army. Through his youth, he worked for the Model Laundry and the railroad. After returning from the service, he continued to work at Hill Air Force Base in communication for over 40 years retiring in 1986. He was active in several veterans' organizations, but devoted the majority of his energy to the Disabled American Veterans where he held office from the local to national levels. He sent Christmas gifts to the injured troops at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines during the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by his wife Ronella, four children: Tom and Judy Aikens, Washington Terrace; Kim Aikens, Washington Terrace; Jenora and Jack Facer, Mesquite, NV; and Shelleann and Larry Ka utzman, Marriott-Slaterville, and his brother Ron of CA. He has 25 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Dewey, John Eldon OGDEN - John Eldon Dewey, 90, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 in Ogden, Utah. John was born December 27, 1914, in Deweyville, UT, the son of John Alfred and Lillian Loveland Dewey. He was raised in Deweyville; Almo, Idaho; and Brigham City, Utah, before moving to Ogden in 1929. He attended Lewis Jr., Mound Fort Jr., and Ogden High Schools. John loved the outdoors, and his favorite memory was of a summer and winter spent in Wyoming when he was 15. In 1936 and 1937 he worked for Terteling & Sons Construction Co. on the highline canals, which skirt the foothills east of Ogden. He also worked for the State Road Commission. In 1940, he went to work for the Construction Quartermaster at the newly established supply depot on 12th Street, later to become Defense Depot Ogden. He helped lay most of the water and sewer pipe on the depot. In 1942 he entered Civil Service, and continued until June 1973, when he retired from Defense Depot Ogden. On November 8, 1938, he married Edit h Emma Zabriskie; they were divorced in 1966. On September 12, 1969, he married LaMar Hammon Carver. After retirement, John and LaMar enjoyed fishing and camping trips and golf. Golf with his regular noon-time buddies and gardening became his favorite activities in his later years. His sweetheart LaMar died July 11, 2004. John was a High Priest in the Lorin Farr 4th Ward. He is survived by his sister Vera Morse, brother Doyle Lamar Dewey, children and stepchildren JoAnne D. Parker, John C. (JoAnne) Dewey, Gary L. (Maxine) Dewey, Teri Christine (Paul) Avondet, Bryan E. (Kelly) Dewey, Geraldine Noble, Joyce (Roland) Burk, Robert (Anne) Carver, 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. German, Marian Elizabeth OGDEN - Marian Elizabeth German, 87, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Harrison Regent in Ogden. She was born April 5, 1918 in Lincoln, Nebraska, a daughter of Earl and Francis Tuthill Godfrey.Marian was raised and educated in Nebraska and attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught at Nebraska rural schools for two years. On April 3, 1938 in Julesburg, Colorado, Marian married Jerold H. German and they spent 67 wonderful years together. They lived in Montello, Nevada for seven years then they moved to Taylor and Roy, Utah. She was a founding member of the Roy Christian church where she was a Sunday School Teacher. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was the past Matron. Marian loved sewing, cooking and cherished her time spent with her family. She will be remembered by the adversities she overcame. She is survived by her husband, Jerold; four sons: Larry German, Albuquerque, NM; Don (Ileen) German, Ara b, AL; Greg German, Roy; and Jeff (Dorothy) German, San Diego, CA; one daughter, Jennifer (Craig) Hayes, Kernville, CA; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers: Donald (Trudy) Godfrey, Ogden; Earl Godfrey, Monterey, CA; and James (Beatta) Godfrey, Pleasant View, UT. OGDEN - Lila J. Harwood, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at her home Monday, July 11, 2005. Lila was born February 27, 1932 in Ogden, Utah a daughter of Albert and Pearl Jackson Stone. On September 21, 1948 she married Jack K. Harwood in Ogden, Utah. Jack passed away in December 9, 2003. Lila was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her one son, Keith Harwood, West Point; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Hollinger, Henry Andrew Henry Andrew "Red" Hollinger April 07, 1913 - July 02, 2005 ROY - Now free of pain and suffering, Henry Andrew "Red" Hollinger, 92, passed away after a long and valiant struggle, with Elsie at his side. A special thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Heritage Care Center and Hospice. Henry honorably served his country, U.S. Navy, aboard Hospital Ship U.S.S. Relief during WWII. Passing through the Panama Canal, traveling to many ports and places from the East Coast, where he received his disability. He grew up in Woodbury Co., Iowa and came to Montana as a young man, a place he dearly loved, making the west his home, having been in all the Western States but Utah. He had a life of many friends and unusual experiences. A statuesque and responsible man with a keen and intelligent, specific and creative mind and a memory like no other. Formerly married, Henry married May 6, 1968 in Elko, NV, Emaline Hardwick Clements, deceased 12/23/1998. Retiring in Reno, NV, he moved to Ca ldwell, ID Oct. 1, 1985 where as an enthusiastic hunter and fisherman, and auction buff, he enjoyed the mountains and streams to the utmost. Henry moved to Roy, Utah October 24, 2002 where he reunited after 60 years, with "Schatzi" Elsie Glover Peterson, also of Iowa, who survives. He was April 07, 1913 at Owego, Woodbury Co., Iowa, the son of Samuel Leo Hollinger and Agnes Mary Baxter, four sisters, Marguerite, Clara Sams, Anna Craig, and Pansy Stonehocker who died June 1, 2005. Four brothers, Ronald, Chris, Richard and Leo, all deceased. Survivors: brother, Marvin, Omaha, NE; grand nephew Steve Craig, Reno, NV, and three special people, the Burks brothers, also many nieces, nephews and friends. Jones, Lillie OGDEN - Lillie Hall Jones, 67, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at McKay-Dee hospital, following complications from a heart attack. She was born January 14, 1938 in Quinton, Mississippi to Dewitt and Addie Mae Tillman Hall. She married L.P. Jones on November 23, 1954; he preceded her in death on December 1, 2001. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed a good laugh, teaching her children about sports, education and life. She was a caring mother to everyone and a best friend to her children. She was a devoted wife, mother and a beloved sister. She was a wonderful cook. Surviving are her children, Clarence (Cathy) Jones, Roxane Jones, Renae Jones, Bruce Jones, Denise Jones, Melvin Jones, Alcindor (Jennifer) Jones, Nicole Jones, Kelee Jones, 11 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by two brothers, Willie D. Hall and Nathaniel Hall; one uncle, one aunt, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Christene, her parents, two brothers and a sister. Troy Neff was taken from us suddenly July 11, 2005 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident, leaving those of us who knew and loved him with a profound sadness and disbelief. Troy was born October 7, 1971 in Salt Lake City, Utah to April Walker. He married Jonnie Lynn Santistevan, later divorced. Troy was a devoted father to Shay, Tishara, Kobi and Kiley, and he loved his sweetheart, Gwen Jakobison, and her children Chris and Miranda very much. Troy had a big heart that felt very deeply. He loved his trucks, flying, outdoor sports and most of all, spending time with his family. Troy overcame many challenges in his life, set high goals and worked hard toward them. He was currently attending Salt Lake Community College majoring in accounting and business management, was on the deans list, and had been accepted at Weber State College to finish his degree. We are proud of his achievements. Troy is survived by parents, April and William Hickman; gra ndmother, Maurine Walker; brothers and sisters, Michael, Justin, Brandon, Adrian, Kimberly, Sasha, Dionne; many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by the grandfather he held dear, Wayne James Walker. Troy's family would like to thank the kind nurse at the scene who began CPR, the paramedics who worked so hard to save his life and the Murray City Police for their hard work, caring and support. Peterson, Dwayne Rex OGDEN - Dwayne Rex Peterson passed away Saturday, July 9, 2005 at the age of 56, surrounded by his loving parents. After many years of being confined to his jazzy, he is now free to be himself again. Dwayne was born September 22, 1948 to Rex and Una Peterson in Ogden, Utah. Dwayne lived in Ogden until the age of two then moved with his family to California. Dwayne served in the Armed Forces in the Vietnam War. Dwayne married Carol Decker. They had two sons, David James Peterson and Christopher Wade Peterson. They later divorced. Dwayne experienced life to the fullest. He tried many things. Dwayne lived in many places through out his life. He could make friends wherever he went. Dwayne was in an automobile accident 17 years ago and after arriving at the hospital suffered a head injury that eventually put him in his wheelchair. Even through all of this, he kept his sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Dwayne was very caring and shared with others freely. He would see others in need and he would not hesitate to help them out. In his later years in the nursing homes where he lived, he was never without a cookie for those who would come by to visit. He loved music and card games with his Mom and Dad. He loved Hollywood Trivia. He would challenge anyone who would take him on. He never lost. A special tribute to his Mom and Dad who have unselfishly for many years taken such great care of Dwayne. They were his wings. They were able to take him to many softball games, amusement parks, family outings and countless car rides just to spend time with him. He is survived by Parents, Rex and Una Peterson, Sunset; Rexine (Harry) Chesbrough, Minnesota, Beverly Searle, Sunset; Barbara Reed, Syracuse; Mike Peterson, West Jordan, Kim (Tresa) Peterson, Perry. Price, Susan OGDEN - Susan Shupe Price, 57, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at her home after struggling for several years with her illness. She is now resting with her Mom and Dad in heaven. She was born November 26, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Junuis B. and Laura Jane Dudley Shupe. She married David Hulon on Sep 16, 1969 in Riverside, CA; they later divorced. She married Emery Price on Jan 22, 1972 in Riverside, CA; he preceded her in death in 1988. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Susan was a little imp when she was small, always joking and teasing. She was very thoughtful to others. She was a very loving and giving person. She would give all that she had, even if she didn't know the person. She was known to out-drink anyone with Diet Pepsi. She loved her grandbabies, they were her entire world, and she loved cats. Her lifetime companion after her husband passed away was her dog Chewy. She worked for years for the Riverside Community Hospita l as a chef. Her husband Emery had esophageal cancer and she cared for him during his illness until he passed away. She also cared for our stepfather, David Jones until he passed away. Surviving are one daughter, Shannon (Frank) King of Ogden; one son, Richard Price of Florida; three grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Donald B. Shupe, Junius Jr. Shupe, Diann Robison and Roxey Vernice Darling, all of Ogden. She will always be remembered and alive in our hearts. Seegmiller, Maida Roundy OGDEN - Maida Roundy Seegmiller, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away Monday, July 11, 2005 in Riverdale, Utah. Maida was born July 6, 1910 in Escalante, Utah, to Hyrum S. Roundy and Jane Lay Roundy, the oldest of five children. At age 15, she and her family moved to Ogden, Utah, where she lived, married and raised her family. She looked forward to and always enjoyed returning to Escalante with her husband and family to visit with friends and relatives there. She married Walter William Seegmiller in Farmington, Utah, on July 18, 1930. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 7, 1958. He died in 1989. She worked for many years as a waitress at the Hotel Ben Lomond. She was also employed at DDO Ogden and at the Bon Marche. Mother was a very faithful member of the LDS Church, holding many leadership positions. Her favorite one was teaching the children in Primary and Sunday School. She was a seamstress and an herbalist. She and her husband spent many hours in the mountains and hills looking for minerals and herbs. She also enjoyed genealogy, gardening, making dolls, and her family. She always had a delightful sense of humor. She lived on her own after the death of her husband until a year before her death. Surviving are two sons, Grant (Sharon) Seegmiller of Kaysville, and Glen Seegmiller of St. George, Utah, seven grandsons and 30 great-grandchildren. Her sweetheart husband and her daughter, Varine Seegmiller Hall preceded her. Special thanks go to Vista Care Hospice and StoneyBrooke Assisted Living in Riverdale for their tender, loving care. Shafer, Elizabeth Wight OGDEN - Elizabeth Wight Shafer died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at her home of natural causes due to old age. She was born June 30, 1912 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, the oldest daughter of Hans Enoch and Alice McClung Wight. She married John Merlin Shafer on March 29, 1934 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada and immigrated with her husband and children to the United States in 1950. She has lived in the Ogden area for 55 years. Bessie was an active member of the LDS church and was particularly involved in the music program of the wards she lived in. She was a piano teacher for many years both in Canada and in Ogden and wrote a book on conducting hymns. She was also an active member of daughters of Utah Pioneers. Bessie managed Nutrition Center Co-op in Ogden from 1962-1970 when she purchased it from the members. As the owner of Bright Day Health Foods/Nutrition Center in Ogden from 1970-1995, she was a well-known activist and lobbyist in the health food movement. In 1995 sh e retired and Bright Day was sold to her granddaughter. Surviving are her seven children: Elizabeth (Lloyd) Sweeten, Ogden; Marian (Allen) Bergin, America Fork; J. Howard (Jacquette) Shafer, Santa Clara, CA; Robert M (Angelina) Shafer, Ogden; Gordon R. Shafer, Ogden; Alice Shafer, Ogden; Margaret (Ronald) Orton, North Ogden, 36 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Marjorie Wight and Eileen Wight. Diarte Smith, 61, our courageous warrior, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Salt Lake City, following heart surgery and a history of heart problems. She was born April 25, 1944 in Brigham City, a daughter of Harry S. and Amelia Fraga Diarte. She moved to the Ogden area as a young girl and then to Roy in 1959. On December 18, 1964, Rosalita married her sweetheart, Patrick Jackson Smith, in Ogden. Patrick preceded her in death on December 15, 1967. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rose worked at the Hubbard Golf Course at Hill Air Force Base for nearly 20 years. She was loved by many of her customers and always gave a smile to everyone. She was a loving mother, daughter and grandmother. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She spent her life caring for others, especially her parents. Rose was always there for anyone and everyone who needed her. Her love was unconditional. Our heartfelt thanks to our extended family fo r their love and support, and to all of those who assisted with her care and gave us a little more time with her. Surviving are two daughters, Marnie (Rob) Whiteaker, South Ogden; Brenda (Eddie) Shaw, Layton; 10 grandchildren, Chrystal (Dave) Meredith, Sidney Martinez, Philip Martinez, Weston Winesett, Patrick Winesett, Trevor Winesett, Shelbie Shaw, Jacob Shaw, Baylie Whiteaker, Brooke Whiteaker; and one great-grandson, Aidan Meredith. She was born April 17, 1939 in Cumberland, Maryland, a daughter of William Ward and Lillian Thelma Taylor Conley. On October 1, 1971, Nancy married Guy Waddoups in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She worked for the Davis County School District as a school cook. Nancy loved her grandchildren and spending time outdoors watching the birds in her yard.
