Johnson, Elaine Rose Elaine Rose Johnson of Layton, Utah passed on to her next great adventure on July 19, 2005 after fighting her second battle with cancer. Uriah F. Wood (Woody), age 92, filed his final flight plan for Somewhere Over the Rainbow, on July 20, 2005. Born Sept. 13, 1912, in Willard, Utah, to James Collin Wood and Emma Amelia Farrell Wood, he was the oldest of eight children. Brothers were Earl, Jim, Leigh Arthur, Joseph Carmen, Wynn, and sisters Elaine and Penny. He grew up in Howell, a small farming community in northern Utah. In 1930 he married Agnes Laney in the Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife of 75 years; his children, Lorene Williamsen Plumb, Santa Clara, UT; Marilyn (Jay) Richardson, Ivins, UT; Jane (Barry) Nelsen, South Jordan, UT and Daryl (Sandra) Wood, Oak City, UT; 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Earl and sister, Penny Wood Reeder, and Jane Tabor, caregiver and friend. Woody fell in love with flying as a young boy and in 1935 began a long career, logging more that 30,000 hours flying time. He worked primarily as an executive pilot and as a flight instructor for the Navy Reserve at Marana Airbase near Tucson, AZ. He also spent several years working for the Federal Aviation Association in small airports in the southwest. He continued his flight instruction, maintaining high standards for his students, until the age of 91. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, serving in the bishopric while living in Tucson. Memorial service will be Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., at the Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, followed by burial at the Willard Cemetery. Zahnow passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005 from complications of Huntington's Chorea. He was born September 23, 1930 in Fairfax, Minnesota, to Airle and Lydia Nygaard Zahnow. During his teenage years he worked side by side with his father as an auto mechanic. On August 24, 1958, Arlo married Lois L. Varnes. They made their first home in San Luis Obispo, California where he attended Cal Poly Tech majoring in engineering. As a member of the U.S. Navy, he served on the USS Chemung during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. Dad began working for the U.S. Air Force and transferred to Hill Air Force Base in 1965 where one of the projects he worked on was the Minuteman Missile System. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time on the courses with his friends, Roger, Tex, Leo and Wiltfang. Surviving are three daughters, Cindy (Lohn) Christensen, Kim (Ben) Howland, Kari (Les) Scheer. Dad has six grandchildren: Daniele, Meredith, Jeremy, Adam, Je ssica, Maci and one great-granddaughter, Baylee Rae Braun. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, his parents, brother and one grandson, Dustin. Our family would like to express sincere gratitude to all employee's of Crestwood Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of our Dad, as well as Hospice Alliance. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Huntington's Disease Society of America P.O.
