Kenneth T. Adams The cows have been fed And the hay's in the barn, We're ready for winter Down at the farm. Dad was always a ranching master, Now he's returned to a Greener Pasture. Kenneth Thomas Adams, 90, of Porterville, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, of causes of incident to age. He was born on April 5th, 1915 in Porterville, Utah, to Hyrum Thomas & Alice Maude Saxelby Adams. He was the second of a family of five children. Kenneth was a graduate of Morgan High School. He married Gwendolyn Geary on June 7, 1935, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had 62 years together before Gwen passed away in 1997. Kenneth worked at the Ideal Cement Plant for 47 years before he retired in 1980. He also ran a mink farm and raised cattle. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many different positions throughout his life. He is survived by his eight children: Connie (Dean) Hanney of Layton; Alice Preece, Iris (Kay) Heiner, Marcia (Gar y) Leak all of Morgan; Sylvia (Doug) Germer of British Columbia, Canada; Ken (Marie) Adams, Les (Gaylene) Adams, and Chet (Joan) Adams all of Morgan. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren (with three on the way), and 8 great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Ronald S. Adams. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen; one son-in-law, Edward L. (Lloyd) Preece; two grandchildren, Lori Heiner Webster and Matt Germer; and one great-great-granddaughter, Haylie Caldwell. He was loved and admired by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Morgan 5th Ward Chapel in Porterville. "Together Forever" Rose G. Candia, 93, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, was taken home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2005. She was born September 8, 1911 in Taos, New Mexico to the late Benerando and Margarita Garcia. Mrs. Candia resided in Virginia with her daughter and granddaughter, Patricia and Nina Candia. Surviving are her daughters, Elsie Vigil, Ramona De Garmo, Perscilla Soto, Mary Ellen Luther, Barbara Nabor, Rosie Martinez, Patricia Candia, and her sons, Ricky Vigil, Leo Vigil, Mario Candia; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Candia; three brothers, and her three sons, Rubin Vigil, Johnny Candia and Willie Vigil. Cap, George William George William Cap - Col., U.S.A.F., Ret.December 18, 1918 July 26, 2005 LAYTON - George W. Cap passed away 26 July, 2005, at his home in Layton, UT. His son, Kelly William, was by his side. George was born December 18, 1918, Wilson, Kansas to William Paul Cap and Francis Mlquarek. He was raised on a farm and rode his pony to attend school in Lucas, Kansas. May 3, 1942, he married Phyllis Ruth Brown at the Evangelical United Methodist Chruch in Lucas, Kansas. They were married over 61 wonderful years. He entered the United States Army Air Corp in August, 1943, as an aviation cadet and Phyllis traveled extensively with him as he was transferred to many bases during his military career. George was a command pilot with more than 13,000 flying hours; of which, 1,175 were logged in combat. During the Korean Conflict, he flew fifty-six combat missions where his aircraft was hit on twenty-six different occassions; each time managing to bring his aircraft back safely. He spent 20 mont hs in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict where he commanded a Special Photo Reconnaissance Unit and the 13th Tactical Bombardment Squadron. While in Vietnam, George spent several days in the jungle with the First Infantry Division participating in a helicopter assault. Among his many assignments, George served as advisor to the Michigan Air National Guard and had a close look at Navy life when he was stationed with a U.S. Navy unit in San Diego, CA. where he served aboard a naval landing vessel. He was Vice-Commander of the 4609th Air Base Group at Kincheloe AFB, Michigan, and commander of the 4677th Defense Systems Evaluation Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Among his numerous awards, George has earned the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal with 32 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star. George retired in 1973 to Layton, UT, along with his beloved wife Phyllis. They were blessed with an active thirty years enjoying their favorite pastimes of fishing, hunting, attending military reunions, and autocross racing. Both George and Phyllis were members of the Sports Car Club of America. He took great pride and enjoyment in building and racing his own cars and has many close friends in the SCCA Organization. George also restored show cars and has several national championships to his credit. George is survived by his son Kelly William of Tucson, AZ; a sister-in-law, Alice de Bord of Canton, Ohio; two nephews, Jerry (Vickie) Brown of Overland Park, Kansas and Timothy (Rosa) de Bord of Schererville, Indiana, and a niece Elizabeth (Robert) Donahue of Columbus, Ohio. Crist, Shirley Fern Shirley Fern Crist, 61, of Las Vegas died Saturday, June 11, 2005. She was born May 10, 1944 in Ogden, Utah. As a resident of Utah she was an IRS clerk. She resided in Las Vegas the past 10 years, and was a member of the German American Club. From three marriages she is survived by her sons, Chad Jensen, Phoenix; Scotte Jensen, Las Vegas and JoeDe Crist, Ogden; daughters, Julieanne Snowball and Makala Crist, Las Vegas and Linnie Smith Gilmore, Washington. Survivors also include two brothers, Ron Campbell, California and Gary Campbell, Washington; four sisters, LaRae Obenauf and Bonnie George, Las Vegas. Patricia Malloy, Ogden and Sherrie Prien, Idaho; as well as 12 grandchildren. Interment was held at Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial on Wednesday, June 15, 2005. DeGroot, Jeanette RIVERDALE - Jeanette Carter DeGroot, 64, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2005 at her home in Riverdale from complications of an illness. She was born March 5, 1941 in Ogden, a daughter of Lyman Lloyd and Minnie Boekweg Carter. She lived her entire life in the Ogden area. Jeanette married her sweetheart, Jerry DeGroot, on May 19, 1958 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on January 26, 1960. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She was happiest when she was busy in the Lord's work. She made many eternal friendships. Jeanette's greatest joy was spending time with Jerry and her family. She dedicated her life to her family and enjoyed watching the children and grandchildren grow. She also enjoyed times spent with her sisters and their husbands, traveling to the Oregon Coast, and time spent on the golf course. A host of lifetime friends, including the Rauzi's, were ve ry dear and a great support. We are grateful to Dr. Seth Lewis, Natalie and Tanna, for their compassionate care. Also thanks to the Community Nursing Service for the care by Brenda and Shelly. Eilander, Mary NORTH OGDEN - Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, MaryLynn Erkelens Eilander, 57, passed away Friday, July 29, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 8, 1948 in Ogden, Utah to Leonard and Mary A. Strevay Erkelens. She married Rudy D. Eilander on July 12, 1968 in Ogden, Utah. Mary was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She retired from IRS in December of 2004 after 35 years of dedicated service. Mary was a wonderful wife and mother. She went out of her way to care for everyone she knew. Surviving are her husband, Rudy D. Eilander of No. Ogden; three sons, Kurt (LaZann) Eilander, Layton; Alan (Karen) Eilander, No. Ogden; and Eric Eilander; and three grandsons, Joseph, Daniel and Rivers. Also surviving are her mother, Mary Erkelens; and a sister-in-law, Jeanie Erkelens. She was preceded in death by a daughter Milissa Joy, a brother Leonard Paul Erkelens, and her father Leonard Erkelens. Erskine, Sean Clyde MAGNA - Sean Clyde Casey Erskine, born April 13, 1978, passed away July 29, 2005. He left those of us who love him to go into the arms of his father. Clyde was born into a loving family. His parents Bob and Maxine, took great pride and joy in his accomplishments. As the youngest son he was cherished by his brothers and sisters. Clyde married his best friend and soul mate Michalene Richardson on September 7, 2002. They are blessed with a beautiful daughter Breelin Raehn. She is the light of his life. Clyde was preceded in death by his father Robert P. Erskine. Grossman, Thomas Alvin SOUTH OGDEN - Thomas Alvin Grossman, 91, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Mountain View Health Services. He was born May 30, 1914 in Hooker, Oklahoma the son of William and Mary Susan Kraft Mangold. He married Betty Ruth Poole on December 4, 1959 in Loveland, Colorado. She preceded him in death on September 25, 1997. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1939 after hearing a radio broadcast of The Old Time Gospel Hour featuring Charles E. Fuller as speaker. Before God's calling on his life he was a farmer in Kansas. Thomas pastored local independent Baptist churches in Kansas, Colorado, Idaho and Utah. He was the first pastor of Faith Baptist Church in Layton. He loved to garden, hunt, fish and spend time with his family. Early on Thomas was a self-taught musician. Surviving are three sons, Cliff(Carrie)Grossman, Eagle, ID; Larry Grossman, Boise, ID; Michael(Jeanne)Grossman, Meridian, ID; daughter, Tamera(David) Ellis, Las Veg as, NV; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and his best friend Sheba. Higgs, Karan Butson Karan Butson Higgs, our loving and devoted Wife, Mom, Grandma, and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father on July 29, 2005, due to complications of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. She will be His special angel. Karan was born June 2, 1938 in Ogden to Eldred and Jesse Butson, the younger of two daughters. She married Edward (Ted) Higgs in the Salt lake Temple on June 4, 1959, and they were blessed with seven precious children. Their marriage and family is for eternity. The family moved to Roy when Karan was twelve where she attended junior high school. She graduated from Weber High and earned an associated degree at Weber College. Karan's illness and then a spinal cord injury in 2001, resulted in bed confinement, but she never complained. She is an admirable example of personal courage and grace. She was a faithful member of the LDS faith, with a strong testimony of the gospel. She loved her Heavenly Father deeply. Karan was a lifelong stay at home mom and th e epitome of kindness and intense honesty. She showed genuine love and compassion for everyone, especially her family and friends. To know her was to love her. Karan is remembered as a patient mom, and a kind neighbor and loyal friend. She touched many lives with her kindness and friendliness and giving spirit. She loved to send loving cards to those she loved. Karan loved her family, second only to the Lord. She is now temporarily leaving behind her husband (Ted) and seven children, Layne, Kenny, Karan Marie, David, Bryce, Christine (Karl) and Mark, plus three precious grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, and Jason. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and two nieces. Special thanks to the South Davis Community Hospice, the Alliance Hospice, and the Inspiration Hospice nurses, and to our many friends and neighbors who have been so supportive and kind. Holsman, Richmond Sweet OGDEN - Richmond Sweet Holsman took his final flight from this Earth on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Rick took off peacefully: from his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born on February 1, 1934, in Bridgeport, Nebraska, to Everett W. Holsman and Mary Sweet Holsman. He served as an Aviation Machinist, 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy from 1951 through 1954. He graduated from Parks College, St. Louis University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. He went to work for Cessna Aircraft Corporation and eventually transferred to Utah. He married Ann Housley on March 23, 1964. He went to work as an Aeronautical Engineer at Hill Air Force Base in August of 1962. From 1975 to 1983, he served as Division Chief of the Engineering/Reliability Branch, F-16 Acquisition Division. This position took him to Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway. He made many lifelong friends while traveling in Europe. From 1983 to 1989, he served as Divi sion Chief of the Computer Resources Branch for the F16 and F-4 Programs. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1989. Rick had a lifelong and avid interest in aviation. He was a member of the Ogden Engineers Club, the Air Force Association, and the Audubon Society. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. He loved taking photographs and traveling. After retiring, Rick and Ann traveled coast to coast several times in their home on wheels. They were both active in the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club, of which Rick was a Past State Manager. Rick is survived by his wife, Ann; his daughters: Arlette (Rick) Toponce of Sunset, and Michelle (Vinko) Fatovic of South Weber; and his brother, John Fisher Holsman of Boise, Idaho. Rick's family wishes to offer their heartfelt gratitude for the kind and loving care given to him and the family by the nurses and staff of Hospice Alliance. Housley, Ruth Maurine New SALT LAKE CITY - Ruth Maurine New Housley of 1249 Mission Road, Salt Lake City, UT died early evening on Friday, July 29, 2005 at Crosslands Rehab Center in Sandy, UT. At her side was her daughter Leah and husband Phil Taylor, along with grandsons Michael Hogge and Steven Carter. Ruth was born July 6, 1912 in Hollenberg, Kansas and was married to Leland Housley on September 26, 1931 in Marysville, Kansas. They resided in Ogden until Leland passed away on June 20, 1967, at which time she moved to Salt Lake to be closer to her daughter Leah and her family. Before the loss of her husband in 1967, Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. After 1967 Ruth was employed at L.D.S. Hospital in laundry services for several years, then changing positions to Little America guest services in Salt Lake before retiring at age 67. Ruth had a deep love of animals, caring for dogs, cats and birds throughout her life, welcoming any stray that came to her door. Ruth will be remembered for her sweet disposition and love for her family and friends. Ruth is survived by her children; Leah (Phil) Taylor of Sandy, UT; Lester (Shirley) Housley of Benicia, CA; Charley Housley of Minot, ND and half-brother, Woodrow New of Ogden. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; her daughter, Roxanne and great-grandson Dustin Hogge. BEAR RIVER CITY - Muriel R. Anderson Sorenson, 93, passed away Friday, July 29, 2005 at Brigham City Nursing and Rehab. She was born July 13, 1912 in the family home, a daughter of Nephi and Ana Margretha Anderson. She was the last survivor of 9 brothers and sisters. She attended Bear River Elementary and Bear River High School. She married Leonard Sorenson on December 1, 1932 in Logan, Utah. She loved working in her gardens and her home and fishing with her sister Pearl. Her special joy was spending time with her family. Surviving are her three daughters; Linda Kay (Harry) Johnson of Garland, Margaret Ann (Maggie) Hall of Ogden, and Sandra (Emerson) Eames of Millville. She was preceded in death by her husband, nine brothers and sisters, and son Gerald L. Sorenson, and a daughter in-law, Joan LaRaye; and one grandson Dennis Hall. She has 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. Tsantes, Anne LAYTON - Anne Tsantes age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep July 29, 2005 after a long illness. She was born in Warren, OH December, 1920 the daughter of Michael and Sophia Foundoulis. She grew up during the depression but learned the true meaning of generosity during those times from her Greek immigrant parents. She married Terry Tsantes, also a Greek immigrant, in December, 1945 when he returned from military service. She worked most of her adult life as a secretary for Sears Roebuck in Warren, OH and Philadelphia, PA. Anne was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. She was a life long member of the Daughters of Penelope and Pan Icarian Brotherhood. She is survived by her son Frank (Ann) Tsantes of Layton; grandchildren, Andrea (John) Dosier, Jerrod (Olga) Cheney, Megan (T.J.) Turner and Melanie (Jeremy) Barnum; and six great-grandchildren, Sarah, Alex, Nikita, Tanya, Abby and Natasha. She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers Nick Binikos and Jack Foundoulis. Workman, Wesley Harold KAYSVILLE - Wesley Harold Workman, 86, passed away July 28, 2005 in Bountiful, Utah from natural causes. He was born October 23, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ireta Goddard and Ray Ovington Workman. Wes graduated from West High School and attended the U of U. He married Marian Emerson, divorced and they had one son Wesley Allen Workman. He served for four years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II and was awarded several medals for bravery and service beyond the call of duty. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and participated in the Korean War. During his military career, he served in numerous countries and retired after 25 years in the military. He later married Betty Lou Jacobsen in the Salt Lake Temple. His parents, son, brother, Ray Goddard Workman and sister, Lucile Workman Cherrington preceded him in death. Wes is survived by his wife Betty, step-children Monty Foster and Rosemarie Bialaski and their families, and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
