Jenevieve B. Chapman NORTH OGDEN - Jenevieve "Jean" Buchanan Chapman, 81, passed away Monday, May 30, 2005 at her home in North Ogden. Jean was born September 1, 1923 in Springville, Utah, to Boyd and Catherine Boyer Buchanan. She married Harold John Chapman on August 8, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Jean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many important callings including Temple Officiator, Relief Society and Young Women's Presidents, and an advisor to the Young Adults. She served with the U.S. Marines during World War II. She enjoyed, and was good at, sewing, decorating and cooking. She was a great mother and homemaker, and children enjoyed being around her. Surviving are her husband, Harold, of North Ogden; daughter, Denise (Jeff) Shanks; sons, Alan (Peggy) Chapman, Kirk (Colleen) Chapman, Neil Chapman, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and on e brother, Marba B. Beer, Verelene B. Haws, Betty Jo B. Parker and Lovell L. Buchanan. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Eric; two brothers, Garth Buchanan and John Buchanan; and two sisters, Burness B. Goates and Elaine Buchanan. Close, Julia Ann Julia Ann Close HOOPER - Julia Ann Close was born April 13, 1948 to Willard Jess and Lorna Julia Higley. She passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, May 29, 2005 after a long and difficult struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. After growing up in Tooele, she graduated from Tooele High School in 1966. She moved to Ogden, Utah and worked for Defense Depot Ogden in the early 70's. While working at DDO she met and married Thomas W. Close in 1974. They moved to Hooper, Utah in 1977 where they raised their daughter, Reb. After retiring from DDO she owned and operated C & K Boots and Crafts in Roy, Utah. She loved helping young couples create their wedding arrangements and tying bows was her specialty. She even learned how to tie bows with both arms in casts. She later worked at Chariot Auto Sales with her husband and continued working from home until her death. Her struggle with MS started during her childhood as she cared for her mother who was also diagnosed with the disease. When Julie was diagnosed in 1976, she became bound and determined to continue living her life. Every day was a struggle and every day was worth it. She was able to do so many things and touch so many lives. She and her daughter had an amazing bond. She dedicated her life to her daughter's happiness and success and was often heard to say how much she enjoyed living through her daughter's eyes. They made many trips together and Julie always was game for anything, including her most recent trip to London, England. Surviving are her father, Willard Jess (Kay) Higley; her brother, David (Sally) Higley; her loving husband and dedicated care-provider, Thomas W. Close; her adoring daughter, Reb; and her cherished companion dog, Teddy. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lorna Julia Higley and her brother, Jeffrey; and her dear friends, Ila and Albert Haas. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to all those who loved and cared for Julie. Sincerest appreciation to the Ballif family for their ti reless love, and to the Vasquez family for bringing joy to her final days. Farr, Miland Richard Miland Richard Farr HOOPER - Miland Richard Farr, 60, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005, at McKay-Dee Hospital. Mike was born September 2, 1944, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Norman Roland and Neta Elizabeth England Farr. Mike was educated in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High School, after which he attended Weber State College. During his life he resided in Ogden, Riverdale, Las Vegas and Hooper. On June 12, 1964, Mike married Mary Elaine Strong, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he contributed greatly to the youth and scouting programs. Mike was a good provider owning his own construction business. Mike enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. He was active in recreational sports when he was younger. He loved riding horses and being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Mike is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, John D. (Angie) Strong, Hadlock, NC; Michael J . (Amanda) Farr, Hooper; Brian N. Holmes FARMINGTON - Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, Janet Amanda Wilcox Holmes, 87, passed away May 30, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was born April 20, 1918, in LaJolla, California to John Milton Wilcox and Norma Farr Wilcox. Both parents were born and raised in Ogden, Utah. Janet was born in California where her father was stationed during World War I. After her father was sent to France, her mother returned to Utah, where Janet spent most of her life. Her childhood years she had the feeling of being raised in a large family because she had a close extended family. She has one younger brother, Dr. Milton Farr Wilcox (EvaJean) of South Ogden, Utah and sister, Miriam Wilcox Jensen, (deceased) husband Reese Jensen of Brigham City. When she was almost 18, she met Raymond Harold Holmes of Salt Lake City, Utah. After courting for four years, they married on May 12, 1939, in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. They had two children, Rama Chamberlin of Orem, Utah and Brent Robert Holmes (Susan) of Farmington, Utah. Janet is the grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 12. She has many nieces, nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister. Janet has always been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Primary for over 25 years, teaching in Sunday School and Relief Society. She has also been active in many service clubs including Chereya Club where she has served several times as an officer and President, and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Camp Spinner. She has also enjoyed her several bridge groups with lifelong friends who have played together and been friends since grade school, high school, and college. After her children were in school she began working at a doctor's office when they lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho and then at Weber State University for many years. She loved to learn and for years took classes at Weber and religion classes at the LDS Institute. She and her friends also attended Weber's plays together. She was also very involved in the care of aged aunts, her mother, as well as her husband. Janet as made friends where ever she has gone, and her family and friends will miss her association. The family wishes to thank Country Care Assisted Living and Applegate Home Care and Hospice for help, encouragement, and comfort during these last few weeks of Janet's Life. Kihlstrom (Gene) OGDEN - Eugene R. Kihlstrom passed away May 30, 2005 after a battle with cancer. He was born April 12, 1930 to Reynold and Annie Biddulph Kihlstrom. He married Judy Reeder on August 29, 1953 in Elko, Nevada. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State College. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Gene worked two jobs for 20 years before retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad after 43 years of service. He was a member of the FOE 2472 for 50 years. He volunteered many hours to the Ogden Eagles to help make it what it is today. He was also a member of the Huntsville American Legion. After retirement you could find him up on the mountain working on his property or at the Eagles trailer park. If he wasn't there he was on a bus to Wendover or playing bingo. He is survived by his wife Judy, mother in law, Mae Reeder, children, Jerry, Ren, Teri (Bruce) Smith, Laurie Whitten, Alan (Michelle), Karen (David) Ball, Robert, and all his canyo n kids, 14 grandkids, eight great grandkids, and two sisters, Beverly (Larry) Gere, and Gloria (Lee) Stephens. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Nathan. The family would like to give a big THANK YOU to the Odyssey Hospice and Wasatch Care Center for all the care and help they gave Dad. Maycock ROY - Kim Brunson Maycock, 47, passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, May 28, 2005 of natural causes. He was born on August 14, 1957 in Salt Lake City, UT, a son of the late Gale Maycock and mother, Shirley McKee. Kim enjoyed camping, fishing and all outdoor sports. Surviving are two sons, Eric and Stephan of South Weber; his mother and stepfather, Harold and Shirley McKee of Roy; two brothers, Brad (Terri) of Ogden and Gale (Hazel) of Wyoming; one sister, Shirleen of Roy and his loving companion his dog, Sam. Nance BRIGHAM CITY - Loraine Duncan Nance, 93, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Brigham Nursing and Retreat. Loraine was born October 25, 1911 in Meadow, Utah, the third child of David and Louie Stringham Duncan. She was raised in Clearfield, Utah and was educated in the Davis County Schools. She met the love of her life, Wendell M. Nance, at a dance and they were married in the Logan LDS Temple on October 23, 1928. Wendell died January 17, 1991. Loraine worked as a cook at the Davis County Schools while her children were in school. She then attended LDS Business College where she became proficient in business skills and became manager of Time Finance. Her greatest accomplishment was her three children: Paul (Dottie) Nance, Blen (Lynne) Nance and Ann (Don) Davis, and her 20 grandchildren. Each one was a special treasure to her, as well as her 54 great-grandchildren and her 17 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her children a nd grandchildren, Loraine is also survived by two sisters, Blenda Darrell and Leatha Gaylor, and two sisters-in-law, Melba Duncan and Nellie Duncan. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, three brothers and two great-grandchildren. Loraine led a life of service to everyone she met - strangers as well as loved ones. She taught her children the value of work with love. Mom, we'll miss you. Pierce, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2005 after a long and courageous battle with heart failure. He was born on September 21, 1929 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Pauline Filler and Richard Pierce. He married his sweetheart, Mary C. Joyner, on April 1, 1950, and was later sealed to his lovely bride in the Salt Lake Temple. Edward honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after 20 years of service and always felt a sense of appreciation for those brave men and women who served and continue to serve this great country in order to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy. After retiring from the Air Force, Ed worked for the Dept. of Mental Health for the State of Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma, Ed served in many callings in the LDS Church (i.e., Bishop, High Council, etc.) while raising his family. He loved sports and every chance he had, he was found couching the youth of his Ward, many times to victory. Twenty years later, Ed retired from the State of Oklahoma and moved his family to Utah to be close to his children who were attending BYU and Ricks College. As a result, he always rooted for the Oklahoma Sooners and the BYU Cougars. Bored with retirement, Ed began working for the LDS Church at Promised Valley Playhouse in 1984 as the House Manager. Because Ed was such a people person, his work at Promised Valley Playhouse was nothing but a lot of fun for him. Ed's testimony reflected his love of the Savior and his fellow man. He always gave to those in need and he truly loved and cared for those he met, even to the end. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Mary Pierce and children Jeri (Paul) Johnson, Terry Pierce and Gary (Kathy) Pierce. He is also the grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren, who he adored. The family wishes to thank Drs. Long and Rassmussen and the loving nurses and staff of the TICU, heart failure team at LDS Hospital and IHC Hospice for their enduring love an d dedication to Ed. Whitehead, Julie Kay Julie Kay Whitehead Our precious, gentle and loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother was released from the confines of her earthly mission on May 28, 2005. She bravely fought a decades-long battle with various forms of can cer, while never despairing and always uplifting others. In her short mortal existence, she strengthened the lives of all with whom she interacted and the world will be sorely remiss without her. Julie always sees the beauty in this world and marvels at her Heavenly Father's hand in all things, even in the remarkable simplicity of rainstorms and sunsets. Her yard is filled with many flowers, of which she knows every name. She graduated as a Dietitian from Utah State University and interned in California, then worked at McKay-Dee Hospital. On July 29, 1966 she married the love of her life, Richard, for time and eternity in the Logan Temple and they later started an eternal family consisting of: three daughters - Camille (Lorne) Kearl, Trina Whitehead and Cheryl (Brett) Ward; one son - Brandon (Becki) Whitehead and five grandchildren - Stacia, Chance, Brynady, Avrey and Ashlyn at present. As a homemaker, Julie honed a variety of talents for her personal enjoyment and for the benefit of others. Besides teaching others how to garden, cook, quilt, crochet and ride horses, she is also a comforter, guardian, an avid reader and a sage listener, giving the right advice to help others through their trials. Julie is a member of the L.D.S. Church, accepting many callings to serve in the Primary presidency, in Relief Society, as a Primary teacher and as a visiting teacher. Her forte is in playing the piano for Primary and Relief Society. She never missed a Sunday, so the church was always filled with her calming prelude music. She taught her children the importance of responsibility by maintaining a menagerie of animals, including horses, parakeets, fish and her favorite kitty, Glue. She is survived by her husband, children and grandchildren, as well a s her sister Sharon (John) Giles and her brothers Buddy (Kellie) Auble and Jerry Auble. She is preceded in death by her parents Elwin and Doris Auble, aunts, uncles and her beloved grandparents. Willard BRIGHAM CITY - George Michael Willard, 18, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2005 in Perry, Utah from an auto accident. Surviving are his parents; John Willard and Connie Rasmussen Allen, sisters and brothers; Angila Willard; Susan Shinkle, Sally Carlopoli, Charles Willard, Joseph Willard, John Willard Jr., Andy Willard, all of Brigham City and a grandmother Martha Willard. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Weldon and June Rasmussen and Oscar Willard. Williams, Lavonda Irene Lavonda Irene Williams WASHINGTON TERRACE - Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Lavonda Irene Williams, 68, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She fought to the very end, a determined 30 year battle against Chrone's Disease. She was born November 4, 1936 in Kemmerer, Wyoming, the daughter of David and Jessica Wright Kinikin. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. On August 14, 1954, Lavonda married David H. Williams in Ogden, Utah. Dave preceded her in death on November 12, 1988. They raised their four children while living in many different states during Dave's career with the US Air Force, settling in Ogden. She retired from Hill Air Force Base. She was a member of the Red Hot's Square Dance Club. She enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. She loved her new hobby of shooting darts. Lavonda loved people and was happiest being around them. Lavonda is survived by her children, Ronald J. (Robyn) Willia ms, Diana L. (Roger) Shaw, Rodney J. Williams, and D. Scott Williams, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and her brother, Melvin (Sue) Kinikin. Her passing will leave an empty place in the hearts of us all.
