Your Family Published in the Standard-Examiner on 6/13/2005. Allen, Joseph W. Joseph W. Allen HOOPER - Joseph W. Allen, age 79, passed away on June 11, 2005, after a long illness. He was born on September 16, 1925 in Holladay, Utah to Fred R. and Florence Woods Allen. He married his sweetheart Florence Parker on August 1, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Air Force in World War II completing 25 missions as a tail gunner in a B-17, with the 15th Air Force 301 Bomb Group, stationed in Foggia, Italy. Joe attended and graduated from Ogden High School in 1944. He received a Bachelor's and Master's of Education degree from the University of Utah and his love of education led to other post-graduate studies at Utah State and BYU. He was a teacher and principal in Weber County Schools for 38 years. He was the Hooper Notary Public for 30 years. He was a charter member of the Hooper Lion's Club and served as chairman of several celebrations. He has been involved in scouting for a lifetime and served as Scout Master, committee chairman, and a Merit Badge councilor. Joe's testimony reflected his love of the Savior and his fellow man. He always gave to those in need and he truly loved and cared for those he met, even unto the end. He is a member of the LDS Church and has served faithfully in many positions, including Ward clerk, Executive secretary, councilor in Lakeview Stake mission presidency, a High Councilman in Hooper Stake, Bishop's councilor, Bishop, and a dear home teacher. He and his wife served an LDS mission to Guyana, South America, a Hooper Stake mission, and were Ordinance workers for the Ogden Temple for nine years. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Florence and children, JoLene (Jerry) Park, Jim P. (Janette) Allen, Drue (Greg) Randall all of Hooper, Gayle (Mike) Kelley of Ogden; Foster children, Etta (Tom) Thompson, New Mexico, Amedee (Karen) Sanchez, Seattle, WA; his sister, Virginia (Don) Widdison of Hooper; 19 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his traveling buddies, the Johnsons, P ages, the Gang from Hooper, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerald R. Allen, a brother, Fred R. Allen Jr., and his parents. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper 8th Ward, 5601 S. 6100 W. with Bishop Jon Peterson officiating. Gibson left us early on the morning of Thursday, June 9, 2005, while surrounded by her loving husband and loyal companions, at her home in Plain City. Tana was born in Ogden, Utah on December 15, 1942 to Nathan "Bill" and Arline Larsen. She graduated from Ben Lomond High School and then attended beauty school and became a cosmetologist. She owned and operated her own style salon, Style Street, in Ogden. Tana married the love of her life, Brent Gibson, in a small outdoor ceremony August 8, 1967, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She loved to travel to rodeos with Brent, keeping the dogs in tow; they traveled all over the U.S. together touching people's lives everywhere they went. She owned and operated Dodge Duds for 15 years while on the road. Tana has left behind an amazing husband, Brent; her parents, Bill and Arline Larsen; her son, Shane (Tracey) Gibson and their children, Kyle and Paige; her siblings, Cherri (Pe te) Oenes, Mitchell Larsen, Marianne (Paul) Nielson, Doug Larsen and Janis (Danny) Heil; four devoted dogs and one sly cat; nieces, nephews and many, many close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Larsen. Tana will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, daughter, sister and friend. She was known for her warmth, compassion, unconditional love and sense of humor. With generosity, thoughtfulness and kindness she brought light and love to her family and friends. Tana unselfishly gave to anyone in need. Tana was always ready for an adventure, whether falling off the back of Brent's snowmobile or traveling across the country to a rodeo, she was up for anything. Tana has a special bond with her niece, Katy, she loved her as if she were her own. Tana was also grandma "Nana" to her favorite great niece, Claire, whom she cared for deeply. Tana was a helper and a healer, whose open heart, outgoing nature and overwhelming generosity touched all of us in such an amazing w ay. So, we say goodnight dear friend, we have been blessed to have you in our lives, you will be greatly missed. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 13th at 1 p.m. at the Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West. Haaser, Catherine Markakis OGDEN - Catherine Haaser, age 68, passed away June 9, 2005 at her home after an extended illness. She was born March 2, 1937 in Price, Utah to Nick and Irene Antonakis Markakis. She married Karl Haaser on November 19, 1961 at the Greek Orthodox Church in Price, Utah. She traveled with her husband to numerous locations while he was employed by the U.S. Forest Service and moved to Ogden in 1971 where they have lived since that time. She is survived by her husband, Karl Haaser, three sons, Craig, Bill, John (Stacie), and three grandchildren, all of Ogden. Also surviving are brothers Mike of Las Vegas; and Jay of Salt Lake City; sister Mary Piantes of Las Vegas; and sister-in-law Deloris Markakis of Price, UT. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and brothers Alex and Mitch. Lemmon, Maxine Harrison Maxine Harrison Lemmon ROY - Maxine Lemmon was born in Grantsville, Utah on December 28, 1917 and she died peacefully with her children at her bedside, Saturday, June 11, 2005. Her life was centered around her faith, family and "bringing dessert". Her effervescence and enthusiasm were greatly treasured and she was always the life of the party. Maxine had a special way of making each loved one feel like her favorite. Her family includes; Lee Harrison Nielson, Lani Tolman Bourne (George), Charlotte Nielson Trainor (James), Valerie McKee Egzibher (Hagos), Larry Scott Lemmon, Steven Earl "Tex" Lemmon, and Stewart Ross Lemmon (deceased) (Tamilynn Sparks). Grandchildren; Sherri Lee Harris, Mark Nielson, Sydney Seitz, Stacy Platt, Missy Burgio, Dana Tolman, Tracee Tolman (deceased), Joseph Tolman, Nathan Tolman, Mali Tolman, Nicholas Tolman, Nina Zinchenko, Michael James Trainor, Ward McKee, David McKee, Bradley McKee, Ryan Lemmon, Craig Lemmon, Michael Lemmon, Lindsey Whiteman, Krystal Lemmo n, Kyle Lemmon, Jackson Lemmon and Tanner Lemmon; 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Messenger, Michael LAYTON - Michael Dean Messenger 49, passed away Friday, June 10, 2005. He was born and raised in Centralia, Washington. Mike lived off and on in Fort Collins, CO. from 1970-1980. In 1981 he married the love of his life, Cecilia Michilena in the Seattle, WA. Temple. Together they moved to the Bronx, N.Y. where they lived for three years while he worked in Long Island, for the Long Island Lighting Company. He moved to Bucoda, WA where he and his family lived for 14 years. He moved to Layton in 1998 where the family still resides. Mike received a B.S. in Engineering from Columbia University. Mike served an L.D.S. Mission in Japan. He served as First Counselor in the Branch Presidency in the Bronx and held various other callings throughout his life including Stake Missionary. Mike served one and one half terms as the Mayor of Bucoda, Wa. resigning to relocate to Utah. Mike was a member of the Oddfellows in Bucoda, WA. He always loved time spent with his family and t he outdoors. He enjoyed biking, running, backpacking and he loved to teach his children. Surviving are his wife, Cecilia, two sons Jayson, Justin, three daughters Jyana, Jourdan, and Jinni, all of Layton. He is also survived by his father William Dean Messenger and step-mother Donna Messenger. One brother Eric McCall, ID; five sisters Vickie, Centralia, WA; Patty, Olympia, WA; Debi, Dillon, MT; Penny, Port Orchard, WA and Lori, Missoula MT. Mortensen, 62, passed away at his home in Mohave Valley, Arizona on June 1, 2005. He was born on November 5, 1942 to Frank and Ada Mortensen of Roy. Keith grew up in Roy and learned at an early age to love the outdoors and fishing and hunting in the mountains. He joined the Navy in August 1961 and served in the Vietnam War aboard the U.S.S. Ariskany, CV34 as a plane captain. He was honorable discharged in August of 1965. He married Lourel L. Vicek on March 1969. They had two children a son and daughter. They later divorced. Keith is survived by his son Frank Mortensen and wife Kristina, two grandchildren, a son Tyler A. and daughter Bailey E. Mortensen, North Fork, Virginia; his daughter Ruby (Mark) Lemoine and their two boys Cougar and Drac Lemonine, Roy. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister; Richard (Mort) Mortensen, Sunset; Ross D. Mortensen, Thayne, Wyoming and Jerre (Joseph W.) Todd, Layton. Keith was a past member of t he Ogden Sky Knights and held a private pilot license and a glider pilot license. He truly enjoyed flying and jumping with all his friends and buddies. Keith worked for a time at the Ogden Airport and then went to Wonder Bread in Ogden and Twin Falls, Idaho where he retired and returned to Roy. He owned and operated the Buffalo Bird (with a brother) for approximately five years before selling the store and moving to Arizona. Keith will be greatly missed by his family and his many good friends and buddies he grew up with. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Thurber, 24, passed away Friday, June 10, 2005 at McKay-Dee Hospital. He was born December 7, 1980 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Alan Kay and Lynnette Gibson Thurber. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1999. On May 3, 2002 he married his sweetheart, Shambree McFarland in the Bountiful L.D.S. Temple. He was a member of the West Weber 3rd Ward. He served in the California Anaheim Mission. He loved to ride his bike and passed away doing what he loved. He had his concealed weapons instructors license and enjoyed teaching. He also enjoyed working on his grandfather's farm and was happiest when he was busy working. Brandon had his own lawn care business, Grass Blades. He loved life to the fullest and lived life in the fast lane. He is survived by his wife, Shambree; his parents, Alan and Lynnette Thurber of West Weber; in-laws, Jeff and Lori Lewis of North Ogden and Richard and Jenifer McFarland of West Haven. He is also survived by one brothe r and three sisters, Casey Ryan (Alice) Thurber, Camilla (Michael) Adams, Jennie (Tyson) Smith, Elizabeth Thurber and four nieces and one on the way, whom he loved very much. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the West Weber L.D.S. 3rd Ward, 4100 W. 900 S., West Weber with Bishop Gene Atkinson officiating.
